  1. So then a computer algorithm should be readily able to pick the selection field and make up the brackets (without the potential for committee member bias), with consideration of all games played including end-of-season league tournaments. The latter apparently now contribute little or not at all to placement unless you are a bubble team and beat a Quad 1 team. All the algorithm needs to know are the specific weights assigned to the selection criteria. The algorithm also would likely be better at calculating distance for each team to placement site than the current committee members. A smart high school kid could probably program such an algorithm throughout the season and update the metrics each week throughout the season.
  2. So you are rewarded for playing and losing to Quad 1 teams in close games? Surely there is a better analytic than that. I believe UA won 21 games and lost double digits whereas we won 27 and lost 7 (I think that is correct after the tournament). So overall record/schedule is also difficult to equate.
  3. Perhaps, but if Quad 1 wins are so highly weighted how does the committee consider a team with more Quad 1 wins and losses such as UA, which is 4/10 vs AU which is 2/7 (I believe this is still accurate post SEC tournament)? Do they take a percentage of total wins to total games played against Quad 1 teams? If so, then UA should have been the 15 overall seed and AU the 16 seed. Maybe we had better road wins than UA, which was also a consideration weighted by the Committee. It just seems very tricky to rely so heavily on Quad 1 wins for placement when there are so many other metrics to consider.
  4. One of the posts I read had a link to the UCONN booster site. They are at least as upset with having AU in their bracket as we are being in UCONN's bracket. They cannot understand why as the top seed that they don't have the worst rated team in the 4 seed line in their bracket, which would be UA. Very concerned about AU depth and defensive prowess, but not UA. I don't understand their bracket either with Iowa St., Illinois, and AU as their 2, 3, and 4 seed lines (all conference tourney winners). They cannot believe AU was not at least a 3 seed. Last I checked there were 23 pages of UCONN booster concerns. The committee did us and them no favors.
  5. Quad 1 and road wins were given primary consideration by Selection Committee per Selection Chairman. Other factors apparently were weighted less.
  6. He was right with our seeding. Maybe he had some inside information.
  7. Selection Committee Chairman stated that two of the main factors in bracket placement were Quad 1 wins and wins on the road. Home wins were diminished as a primary factor. These criteria hurt us.
  8. Were you a Florida guy? We had a few FIJI guys from Florida, including Drew Evert (AU tennis player), Chrissie Evert's brother. Always hoped he would invite her over, but never happened. I spent 7 years on faculty at UF and really enjoyed Gainesville. Good place to raise young kids at that time (40 years ago).
  9. Best wishes for you tomorrow. Good news that the staples are coming out. I enjoyed your story about you and your Mom and the miniatures entering JHS and the effects. Glad you have fond memories of AU games and your Mom. Must have had a great Dad (step Dad).
  10. No, I did not know any Lambda Chi's. My other next door neighbor at home was a KD at AU and she recommended I pledge FIJI. That was the only other house I visited. I liked the FIJI house location and some of the north Alabama brothers. Otherwise, all I knew about any other fraternity was that I did not want to pledge Pike after driving one of their girlfriends down for a Saturday game and arriving to find they had broken out most of their windows after a Friday night party. Must have been a heck of a party. By the time I got to AU all my home town guys were gone from TC.
  11. Thanks for the response. I figured it was the same Peggy, but I suppose there could have been others. My next door neighbor from home was the rush chair for Theta Chi (TC) my senior year in high school. I went to one of TC's rush events that year when they had a buried slow-cooked pig. I had a nice piece of that meat almost to my mouth, when my neighbor grabbed it out of my hand. He informed me they were running out of meat for TC rushees and gave the meat to others. Suffice to say I did not pledge TC.
  12. Well, I'm a guy or at least I was one until I began taking the meds my doc put me on to shrink my prostate. Some of the side effects of these meds almost certainly will qualify me to start looking at dresses with you soon.
  13. You must really be doing well. I'm amazed you stayed only one night in the hospital. They kept me for 3 days and my procedure was laparoscopic and only a partial resection. Hospital beds must be at a premium. Did they place and remove a drain from your abdomen before you left the hospital? You may expect to be overly tired for a few weeks, at least I was for about 6 weeks post surgery, but I was 71 at the time of my surgery. Best wishes for your continued recovery.
  14. I just discovered this topic and enjoyed reading through some of the threads. Golf, I think I dated Peggy K. Did her last name end with an "n" ? She had beautiful blue eyes and blonde hair. She also had a sorority sister Ann W. who also was a terrific looking gal. She was the Chi Omega Greek Belles cover girl her freshman year. As I recall she also was from the Miami area and hung out with a bunch of AU football players from south Florida. In the 1973-74 school year, she had an apartment at Pine Haven. Any idea what became of either Peggy or Ann? Should add if I hadn't met Mitzi first I would definitely tried for Peggy
  15. Sorry, looks like I mis-pronouned you above. Please do not cancel me.
  16. Your docs will make sure you have your running water going before you go home. I've had two catheters. In one case I could not get mine restarted post-removal and they gave me meds to help. In the other case, I guess the catheter roto-rooted out my urinary tract and the water flowed better than ever. I'll hope you benefit from the latter. Good luck.
  17. Fifty, when they pull the catheter, you'll have a new appreciation for the Toby Keith song "I'm so happy I can't stop crying". It will give you something to look forward to. You are probably going home.
  18. Thank you for asking. Yes I'm doing well. The discovery of the tumor was inadvertent on a chest CT for recurrent pneumonia. No spread of cancer and no recommendation for radiation or chemo treatment post-surgery. My doctor assures me at age 72 that something else will likely kill me first. Perhaps another couple of years of bad Auburn football will do me in before the cancer returns.
  19. It seems that the regular season SEC title is worth far more for NCAA tournament placement than the SEC tournament title. The latter often comes too late in the day on Sunday to affect decisions for bracket placement. If Jaylin can safely play against UT, it should be all hands on deck.
  20. I'm reminded of the failure of Pat Knight following his dad, Bobby, as head BB coach at Texas Tech. Three miserable years and Pat being fired. AU should be careful with an unproven coach in waiting situation.
  21. I had a malignant tumor successfully removed laparoscopically from my left kidney last March. I can assure you that Fifty has had better days and will be in pain for a few. The catheter is the worst. I wish him well for a prompt and successful recovery.
  22. Another great AU crowd for the UA meet. Indeed one of the senior UA gymnasts acknowledged and commented on how much she has enjoyed coming to AU to compete in front of energized and enthusiastic AU fans. The implication is that the Coleman crowd offers less energy and enthusiasm for UA gymnastics than that afforded the AU team in Neville. The UF girls and coach also echoed the outstanding environment and support for gymnastics at Neville. Real compliments for the AU fans. WDE!
  23. So Trump was convicted by a jury in NYC for a rape of a woman who over the years has accused ~ 7 guys previously of raping her, including her dentist and a top broadcast network executive. Presumably Trump's rape of this woman occurred about 30 years ago in some year that the supposed victim could not recall, ostensibly sometime in in the 1990's, in a busy NYC department store dressing room. It is ironic that the presumed victim conveniently decides to bring the case in a presidential election year after all these years have gone by. You can't make this stuff up except possibly for a Law & Order episode, which apparently was one of their past episodes.
  24. I've gone through all these threads and no one has commented on why we have multiples of military bases scattered across Syria, Jordan and Iraq, and oh yeah we are in Yemen too. What exactly is our mission over there? I've heard we are fighting ISIS, but I've not seen any evidence of that. I've also heard we are protecting oil fields from the bad guys. My son fortunately just returned alive and unhurt from one of the Syrian outposts that was repeatedly attacked. He also previously deployed with SEALS in Yemen. So until someone can share with me what the US mission is in the Middle East and convince me it is worth the life of one US service member, then I'll continue to question the incompetent US administration and DOD leadership.
