After our effort (or lack thereof) last night, I feel like an old Kentucky football fan looking forward to the start of basketball season. It cannot come soon enough.

Battie reminds me some of Gibbs at Bama last year. He's fast, shifty, and runs bigger than he is in traffic. Hoping he gets more playing time.

When you say first "offensive" snap, do you mean our first 15 yard loss of the day?

Who was the tight end or receiver that missed their block on that play?

Go into SF and eat at Harris Steakhouse. It has been a few years, but should be worth the visit if you are staying in SF.

Cal's O-line looks good in replays. Probably some high IQ guys. Should be a good test for our D-front and LBs.

Let it never be said that Auburn is not a gracious host.

I'm hoping that Coach's time at Liberty, evaluating much less than 4 & 5*'s to build a team, will pay dividends at AU this coming season. Probably honed a keener eye for talent and team building than most of the leading SEC coaches have had experience with over the past few years. Hugh's Liberty win over Arkansas at Fayetteville sealed his currency with me. Hopefully, he does not have a bunch of let-down UConn-type losses to follow-up big SEC wins. Fingers crossed.

I was looking at Clemson's 2022-2023 softball schedule and their campus reporting on the regional. They appear very good and beat some of the teams that beat us, in some cases they won handily. Their reporters did not have much to say about the Clemson regional opponents, but they did indicate they are looking forward to Clemson playing Oklahoma in the super-regional, which may work in our favor.

I agree with bringing Maddie back in for the 7th inning. With the exception of a strikeout or two, I believe the last 4 or 5 hitters that Shelby pitched to in the 6th and 7th inning hit long fly ball outs to the warning track. It was just a matter of time until a one of these long balls went out of the park. Too bad, otherwise Shelby pitched well. We just needed to have provided her with some run support, which did not happen today. Got to give the South Carolina girls credit for pulling out the victory. They hit when it really counted and we did not with our best hitters up in the bottom of the 7th.

Kudos to Lisenby on calling batter interference when UA had at least two runners on base and momentum. That heads-up call may well have saved the game.

Exactly! Thanks augolf for posting these classic covers. They bring back fond memories of AU football of my childhood. Could not remember Phil Neel's name. Does AU own the rights to these covers? Any idea how many years Neel drew the cartoon covers for the gameday programs and when they stopped?

I miss the old cartoon covers of the great gameday programs with the Auburn Tiger doing something bad to the UA elephant, the Wake Demon Deacon, the GT Yellow Jacket, the UGA dog, etc. Always entertaining, especially as a kid going to games. Someone should do a coffee table book with a collection of all the cartoon covers. I would expect a lot of interest.

Can someone remind me why we missed out on Marcus Lattimore? My recollection was that we were recruiting Dyer and Lattimore at the same time and had room for both. As I recall, Lattimore was genuinely interested in AU and then Dyer committed early. Did Lattimore not want to compete with Dyer or was the situation for him at USC too good to forego. I always liked Lattimore and wished he had come to AU.

We needed many more rebounds in most of the games we lost this year, especially on the offensive end when we were one and done in most of these games. Better 3 point shooting would have masked this problem, but it was displayed in full glory with our poor shooting in too many games. Broome needed help and will need better support next year than is apparent with the likely returnees.

As I'm sure many of you did, I watched the Houston vs Bama game earlier in the year. It was the most physical game I saw all year and should have been played in pads. If we do get to play Houston then we need to show up in our best big boy britches with pads and compete for rebounds (which we have not done well in key losses). Houston's guards double and play tight defense on the opponent's guards. Pressure has not been well received by our guards this year. Have to hope for our best team performance if we get a chance to play Houston. Keep Broome out of foul trouble and hit our foul shots. Pray for some AU 3 pointers and hope that our guards play smart and disciplined.

I'll settle for a smart disciplined game from our guards and Flanagan, few turnovers, some offensive rebounds, and hope for the best from outside the 3 point arc. Iowa fans are not confident based on an online Hawkeye call-in show that I watched. They are concerned about AU's tight physical defense, especially against 3 point shots and they have a history of shoting poorly away from home. The latter sounds familiar. I like the match-up for us.

That was a very winnable game with just a little better free throw shooting. Broome however was not alone in missing key free throws. He had plenty of company with his teammates.

Average is being generous. Our guards are well below average.

It could be worse. Imagine how the Kentucky fans must be feeling with all their resources and expectations this year.

Makes no sense if you are the #5 team in the country to sit starters. That would be like sitting Cam Newton for a quarter and Michael Dyar for a half against one of our better opponents on the road in 2010.

Our offense makes every defense look good. Not sure how much our poor offensive effort was due to UT playing stellar defense. I think we all can agree our offense is OFFENSIVE.

Disgraceful first half. Outplayed in all aspects go the game. The SEC deserved better representation. Very disappointing.
