  1. Jason, your Dad's name is familar to me. I was there from '60 to '65, and was wondering if he came back then for graduate work or something else. Also, last name is spelled differently, but you may be related to ST.
  2. I am suprised I have never heard the story before. I would have thought that was a story one of you would have told me at some point. That is funny... I bet you would like to hear about "cow-tipping" and "deer hunting" at the ag experimental farm on Saturday nights after waaaay too many adult beverages. Ever try to run down a deer when you're three sheets to the wind?!! Even Omac couldn't do that!!
  3. Afraid not. I believe Housel is correct and would be surprised if any survived Thanks Golf. If you ever hear of anything at all, please let me know. The original AU radio broadcasts were done by my grandfather and I was really hoping to get something for my mother. I'm going to make another effort, but I agree with Golf, if Housel couldn't find them, I don't know. Wouldn't that be a great gift for your Mother though?
  4. I used to travel to Auburn by train from Greenville, S.C. My best friend and frat brother and I had a great time on those trips!! We stopped in Atlanta and changed trains there. This is too cool!!
  5. OK folks, this is an update on my situation. My family and I have moved to the Southern-most part of Central Kentucky. My family includes my wife and two beautiful great-granddaughters. Two of my sons, both great Auburn Tigers, helped in the transition from Nashville, about 45 miles away. We have purchased a farmhouse, built in 1876, but remodeled recently, in the midst of a 23,000 acre plantation owned by the Baggett family. The girls all woke me up last Sunday morning to see the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen!!! God has graced us like you will never know. Now I have to ask: is anything else going on important? The older I get, the smarter my Mom and Dad become!!
  6. Old folks, all this stuff with Cam has brought back a very big time in my life. Flashback to the late '60s and early '70s, when Watergate occurred. I lived and worked in Washington D.C. at the time, and I must admit, was a big supporter of Richard Nixon. I actually drove by the Watergate Hotel/Condo building on the Saturday morning that the crime was discovered; police cars blocking off the streets, etc,. As each day of the investigation unfolded, it seemed another piece of information came out, each one making the President look more guilty of a cover-up. I had an inside informant who daily kept me up-to-date on the happenings, and he kept saying, when they ask for the tapes, we're in deep trouble. He was Deputy Undersecretary of the Interior at the time and sat in with Nixon on many meetings. We all know how that came out. Our situation will come out better, but the analogy of everyday was another newsday, is where I'm going with this. BTW, and I may have mentioned this before, my informant and very best friend for more than 10 years, was Kenneth Lay, founder and CEO of Enron!!
  7. Yesterday, November 4, is a day that will live in infamy at Auburn University. Also, it was my 67th birthday: spent a great day with my family (wife, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids). We were all eating at my favorite Chinese buffet when my son got a text about Cam's situation. We're all AU grads and/or fans, and the birthday celebration quickly took a back-seat to what was going on. ESPN messed with my birthday!!
  8. Well, I'm not historical but Saturday is my 50th class reunion. I will be unable to attend due to being trumped by my youngest grandson. He is almost four and is coming to visit for a few days. By the way, I was in Dallas on Monday and I never saw so many Auburn hats and shirts out there. It was the same way on the plane trip back. Very nice. When they have all the parties this weekend I will think about everybody from Bammerham. War Eagle. Thanks AU60. Aren't grandkids the best?!!
  9. OK Guys, bring it!! I've noticed several new threads on here from people claiming to be "historical". So if you've got some old Auburn memories, please share. Heck, you may be a long lost friend. Got two things: Voted yesterday (against everything going on now), and got a "War Eagle" in the waiting line (Nashville). Second, had a talk with a guy wearing a "Crimson Tide" sweatshirt: thought at first he was a typical Turd, but found out he was a student at UAT at the same time I was at AU. So he asked me: Who was the QB at Auburn that had the record for QB running, before now. Second question: Who was in the backfield with that QB who later became an NFL star? I said, before I answer, will you tell me where The University of Alabama is located? Of course, he answered; Birmingham. Then I said: Question #1, Jimmy Sidle: Question #2, Tucker Fredrickson. Dear Lord, it's great to be an Auburn Tiger!!
  10. That is so true. I was in management my entire career and as pops says it worked for me as well. And you know, I think ST has applied this to this site. These kids, J-S, a4e, DJ, Bird, Brandon, etc., have had to withstand a lot of controversy the last few days, and I think they've done it well.
  11. Slammer, if I could give one lesson to the younger members on here, it would be what you said about surrounding yourself with the best people and getting them to work together. That worked for me in my life, and will always work in the real world.
  12. Thanks many times, Slammer!! WDE!! ( I've got a very good feeling about this weekend!!) Is this stuff about Cam and UF stupid or what? Maybe, after Nov.2, we can get this country back on track!!!
  13. Actually, golf, I did!! I'll be 67, so I included 16 leap days. This is anal, but I'm bored. We need a new commitment!!
  14. Frightening thought: On November 4, my birthday, I will have lived 24,471 days on this earth. By that date, I will have spent the equivalent of 30 days on AE, or over 0.1% of my life. However, I have spent over 78% of my life as an Auburn Tiger!! Frughtening, and worthless, information!!
  15. I was just listening and reading about the turd fans' reaction to the Arky game, and it reminded me of a past Iron Bowl game experience. In victory, they always become SO GRACIOUS with the " they're a good team, and we had to play our best, but it was good enough" CRAP. A friend and myself went to an IB in Birmingham: it was the year that Ray Perkins caught a big TD pass right in front of us, don't know the year. In those days, you could park downtown and take a shuttle to Legion Field. After they beat us, we were on the shuttle back and all these bammers were thanking us for beating UGA, thus allowing them to win the conference championchip ( this was before divisions). My friend and I wanted to pewk!! But when the turds lose, the real person comes out!!
  16. Moving on, anybody got a Bobby Hoppe story?
  17. Is this the one you want pops? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rcp-ZV0Tw04 golf, I knew you would have that video but I have a question, was that the first block or the second? It was the second block punt. Gary Sanders was not near that excited about the first one. Here are his exact words and I believe it was Gusty Yearout you hear in the booth screaming Gary Sanders was the radio play-by-play announcer for Auburn football in the early 1970s, and his call of the blocked punts, particularly the last one, is familiar to many Auburn fans and has been available on several audio tapes and CD's sold in Auburn University bookstores through the years. The call of the first blocked punt was rather subdued, possibly because Alabama had dominated the game to that point. The call went as follows: “ Greg Gantt is in to punt, Johnny Simmons is going back as a single safety, Mitchell and Langner on the...uh...line of scrimmage coming from either side to try to block the kick. Auburn trying to go after it, here's the snap, they got it! Blocked kick! Ball's back to the 25, picked up on the bounce at the 25-yard-line, and in for a touchdown is David Langner! ” The call of the second blocked punt is heard more often, and was delivered with much more enthusiasm from Sanders. Additionally, others in the broadcast booth and press box can be heard screaming and yelling over Sanders call. Sanders, possibly due to being caught up in the moment, identified Roger Mitchell as the player who blocked the kick, when Bill Newton (who had blocked the first one) actually blocked it: “ Greg Gantt standing on his own 30, Auburn will try to block it. Auburn going after it, here's the good snap...it is blocked!!! It is blocked!!! It's caught on the run!!! It's caught on the run and he's gonna score!!! David Langner!!! David Langner has scored and Auburn has tied the game!!! Roger Mitchell blocked the kick! And it's 16 to 16! Thanks golf, I thought that might be the case. On a side note, I had a computer class with Langner. I was surprised on how little he was. All muscle though. And wired tighter than an eight-day alarm clock!!
  18. BTW, guys, let's get that "Punt Bama Punt" video up here. Anybody know how?
  19. That was chizwhiz I believe. I will sent him a pm thanks, golf, think you're right
  20. I saw a post from a guy who said he couldn't read the posts because of his eyes. We need this guy to post here. Find him. Also, what do you think about starting"Old AE Member Polls"? These kids are stupid, and very, very emotional. I Don't know how to start one , but slammer, golf? HELP!!
  21. I survived better than my three sons, daughter, and daughter-in-law!! They're a lot like many on this board during the game, but, hey, let's face it, being an Auburn fan takes a lot of guts!! I have tried to raise them to be "half-full" types, but when it comes to AU football, well, last night was just another for the ages. It really entertains me to read the posts DURING the game versus AFTER the game. Kids, let me just tell you, this is nothing new and something you'll probably have to live with forever. I was thinking last night about a game back in the late "60s, we lost to Ga. Tech in a game they shouldn't have even been in. An end by the name of Ted Fortier for Tech caught three straight posts against a very good friend of mine, Mickey Sutton. Everyone in Cliff Hare Stadium was all over Shug, about letting them run that post play after play. Now the stadium is named after him!! Times change, but Auburn fans will always be Auburn fans!!
  22. This is my fraternity brother talking here!! 79 years old and still bringing it!! C'mon guys, you got to love it!! BTW, this thread is open to all you youngins' ( in your 40s and 50s!!). Did you notice how we revived Jimmy Sidle last week? Credit to kevin67 for starting it.
  23. Guys, you know, I think this upcoming weekend could be a great one for us "seasoned" Tigers!! I have a warm feeling for Clemson, grew up 45 miles North of the campus, love the Clemson people, but want to WIN THIS GAME!! I've been to Clemson when Frank Howard was on the sidelines, but I've also been to Auburn when the great Shug Jordan was on the sidelines. This weekend could be something very, very special!! Your thoughts?
  24. Leader in the clubhouse!! Congratulations!! I'll PM you and maybe we can share some Alpha Lambda Chapter stuff.
  25. I hope your wife is doing well, golf!! Had no idea, but prayers to you both.
