  1. I knew what you were saying, and great story!!!
  2. You blew that one and made some real boners? Hm......
  3. Do the sororities have houses now, or where are they?
  4. I'm up late with my granddaughter, who has a cold. My wife gave me a reprieve, so I'll give you one more, and I promise, the last. In the 1960's, the Auburn ladies lived in dorms. The sororities, Phi Mu, Tri Delt, etc,. all had their bases within the dorms(they hated it). When you went to pick up your date, you were required to call her down to the desk(much like a hotel), where she would sign out. When you returned, she would go back and sign back in. If you had a blind date ( Helen Keller Hall was te best place to get a blind date), the same would apply. There were curfews of like 10PM on school nites and 11PM on weekends. Yes, there was(is) a womans dorm named after Hellen Keller! If it became rather late on Saturday night, and you didn't have a date, you could always call the dorm and the young lady that answered would be happy to make your acquaintance! My dear lord, how things have changed!! BTW, ask any of the other seasoned members of this site if this isn't accurate. Gotta go, baby's crying!!
  5. I'm starting to think old(er) age is not the reason for your memory loss Pops! What? Where am I?
  6. I'll bore you guys with one more story, prompted by a chat I was having with JS involving recruiting and this agent thing. I played on a State Championship team in North Carolina in 1960, and myself and several teammates went on several recruiting trips. To point out how ridiculous recruiting is, three of us were invited to the University of Virginia for an official visit. At that time, UVA , under Bill Elias, had the nation's longest losing streak at 28 games. The minute we stepped on the tarmac, we were given "spending money" ( a violaton), spent Friday night at a frat party with heavy drinking (a violation), access to hostesses(a violation), and other things I'm too embarassed to mention. I went on other trips, all pretty much the same, but the trip to UVA stood out because of the 28 game losing streak, and everyone thinks of the school as this celebral, Ivy League type school.
  7. You will hopefully not as dumb as some of the things I did. HAPPY BIRTHDAY FISH!!!!!!! :partey: Happy Birthday Fish! If my old memory cells are still working, you are in Mobile. I lived there for ten years, and loved it!!
  8. Golf, the Phi Tau House was on College where the alumni center is now. BTW, in a previous thread, I told you guys my fraternity: Phi Kappa Tau!!!
  9. Security was a lot looser back then. Someday, I'll share places where I've hidden my friend to get past them!!! When my sister and her husband were at Auburn in 67-70 I would ride to Auburn every home game with either her in-laws or a neighbor and get in the student section with my sister and her husband. I was 10 in 67 sitting in the student section. I would say security was pretty loose back then. Is everyone clear on who my "friend" was? Was your friend's name Jack or George or Jim?? The Daniels, Dickel, and Bean families are all related by a common gene!!!

  12. Just reading the thread on student section, and it reminded me: In 1965 we were playing Steve Spurrier-led Florida, he had just won the Heisman the previous year, they were highly ranked, and we had 2 or 3 losses. I secured my seat in the student section, found the Coke boy and bought the entire rack for myself and a couple of my frat brothers. We had already started our pre-game partying before entering JHS, but had managed to get my close friend, Jack Daniels, into the stadium without a ticket. He needed the Cokes as his companion. Somehow, an elderly lady managed to find a seat behind us, with her little stadium seat, to our left, in the middle of the student section!! The game was extremely exciting, and when Bill Cody recovered a fumble for a TD, I spilled my friend and his companion all over the lady. When Cody intercepted Spurrier for another TD, I doused her again!! Bless her heart, everytime Auburn made a big play, she would get her program and cover her face. But she hung in there for the whole game. It was the first and only time Auburn ever wore jerseys with four numbers on them!!!
  13. In the mid-70s, I took a date to homecoming. Took her to the "tourist plaza" atop Haley Center to view the campus before the game. I pointed to the shop buildings and noted that I was walking between #2 and #3, in 1963, when I saw a couple listening to a hand-held radio. They were mortified so I asked what was going on: they said President Kennedy had just been shot!! My date said, "You were in college when he was asassinated? How old are you? I said I was 30, and asked how how old she was and where she was when that terrible event happened. She said she was in her 5th grade classroom!!! We had just started dated, but I could have been arrested for........ She was 19 at the time. I seriously considered jumping from the observation platform, but wanted to see the game, so I didn't.
  14. From where I sit, you are , indeed, in good company. WDE!!!
  15. OK, everybody give it up!!! My DOB is 11-04-43, makes me 66. I know AU60 has got me beat. From what we know now, who's the oldest?
  16. Johnny and Barbara; WOW!! Also, do you guys realize how great Frank Larussa and Tommy Lorino were? Also, John Carroll produced another pretty good Auburn Tiger. Mike Blakeley now wants his number!!
  17. Somebody has got to be able to pull up McGeever blocking that FG!!! I know I've seen it many times but wouldn't have a clue how to find it. At one time, it was almost as remarkable is the "Punt-Bama-Punt" thing!!!
  18. Do any of you guys remember McGeever doing that? The ball stuck between his thigh pad and stomach, did not even touch the ground!!! I dated John's cousin a loooooong time ago, and his best friend, Jim Finch, was also a very good friend of mine. His wife, Marlin, was(is) a wonderful person. We would go out, and everyone would say: " John McGeever, aren't you the one.......? " He got so tired of it , he dreaded going out in public. BTW, Jim Finch had another close Auburn friend , Dave"Mudslick" Edwards. Now, if you want some stories... there is the place to go . He was #52 for the Dallas Cowboys, and along with #55 LeeRoy Jordan, formed the best LB corp in the NFL for a long time. That's probably the last time AU and UA did anything good together!!!
  19. For those who don't know, those cabins were named "Graves Centre" and were located in a grove of trees just above what is now Plainsman Park. Shug felt he could keep better tabs on the players if they lived in separate living areas. The story I heard was the Hoppe shot a toilet from underneath a freshman player while he was , well, you know.....
  20. Thankfully, I have been topped by AU60!!! Let me ask you about the 57 team; do you have any Bobby Hoppe stories? I have one but not sure if I have it right because I wasn't there.
  21. We stayed in touch occasionally up until 10 years or so ago. I might see if a can contact him right now.
  22. I'm 66 and not rising as much as I used to!!!
  23. You got me. I'll know it when you tell me. Is Langer #25? Help me, I can't remember the other players!! BTW I WAS THERE!!!
