Good morning, everyone. Just heard, that Taylor Swift just donated $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame. When I lived in Hendersonville, I knew the Swift family, went to church etc,. so I follow her a lot. She donated almost $1 mil to the flood relief in 2010 also. Just a remarkable 22-year old, very beautiful young lady!! And an Auburn fan, too!!

1 Timothy 5:23 "Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses." Only a little wine? I'll stick with my own gospel. Define little. When I open a bottle of wine, it doesn't get recorked. "A" bottle, therein lies the problem. I've graduated college, I don't need to buy wine in a box anymore. I didn’t know Boone’s Farm came in a box. Dang, you uppity types are starting to talk my language!!

Believe me when I say, "There is a lot of hard information about the aforementioned subjects on this site this morning, much more than we are accustomed to. However, one has to read the underlying to find the truth." Most in the Asylum will comprehend with ease.

Congratulations to Madison!! Most of those entries are very impressive, and to think Texas is a State full of rich oilmen and stupid cowboys!! But the congratulations also need to go to Madison's family, who obviously have found the time to assist, encourage, and love amidst all the other things going on with those beloved people right now.
  10. Well, I guess this morning is a good time to refresh this thread and to talk about "perspective". For us old-timers, this Iron Bowl hangover (not alcoholic induced) is not new, nor is it anything I'll ever get used to. But, to put thing in the proper perspective, the season was about what I expected; the improvement, or lack thereof, was not what I expected; but the future looks bright if a few pieces fall into place. First, some coaching changes will have to be made, and they will be made. We may lose one, maybe two, coaches that we don't want to lose. Second, the remaining 9 or 10 slots in this recruiting class need to be filled with our positions-of-need kids, many of which were at the game last night. It remains to be seen what effect the game last night will have on our chances with these key pieces to the puzzle, but JJ and Coach Chizik need to move swiftly and boldly in making the necessary coaching moves. I cannot give you details, because I don't have them at this time. But when I do, you will know. When I read the "doomsday" threads today, I have to think back to when I was younger, and I was no different. I remember thinking to myself: "We'll never beat them again." I guarantee you that that thought is running through many young minds this morning. As we go forward to NSD, let's watch as these recruiting masterminds sign up 8 or 9 kids who will fill the trenches on both sides of the ball; let's not worry about the DGBs or Diggs of the world (sure we'd love to have them), but if you see the "big uglies" come our way, the final pieces will be put into place for a very bright future. But that won't happen until the coaching situation is stabilized, and that must and should happen quickly.
  11. Guys, I apologize for not refreshing this thread earlier, but time restraints have me, well, you know!! I think there are several good reasons to bump this, though, because it's obvious that we older members have been joined by several newer "seasoned" posters, and they probably didn't know about the thread. If you are one of these, I recommend you browse through the past posts; there are some great stories (most reported to be true), that go waaay back. My middle son, an alumnus who hadn't been on campus for two or three years, took his fiancee to her first Auburn game this past weekend. BTW, apparently the University Inn has gone way down since my college days!! But Nick had to call me and say: "Dad, you won't believe this campus!!" He said the growth, and the beauty of the growth, was unbelieveable. His fiancee is now an Auburn Tiger, so I told him I can now officially welcome her into the family. What do you guys think has happened to our younger alumni and fans, the ones that post such caustic, inflammatory, remarks on this site? Has this world become so bad on the outside that they cannot put a football game, a few bad plays, and, yes, a few bad coaching decisions, in perspective? Kids (anyone under 50), look around you; look at one of the most awesome campuses in this country, look at the tradition, and for God's sake, stop and smell the roses. If Bigbird, around4ever, or augolf are reading this, I have an idea: let's start a "Donation Post Account", with you guys being the judge and jury. If a post goes over the top, assign a $ value to it, it then goes into the member account, when the account gets to $25, the member has to donate or be banned. Now that's putting your money where your mouth is!! (This idea probably has holes in it, but you get my drift. I guess I sorta understand these younger members attitutes, because they don't have the memories we have: Wreck Tech parade, panty raids, Kopper Kettle, the Green House, Magnolia Dorms, Dorms I thru XII, War Eagle Supper Club, Shug Jordan, Pat Dye, Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan, Terry Beasley, Jimmy Sidle, Tucker Frederickson, and on and on. War Eagle!! Also, on my son's visit ( and Nick has been following AU football for most of his 30 years), they had lower bowl, 50 yard line seats. Nick said there was a distinguished gentlemen sitting just in front of them that everyone knew and he seemed to be somebody. He apparently was the QB on the 1957 NCAA Championship team, but didn't remember his name. I said, Nick, you just met Dr. Lloyd Nix!! He said, Dad, how did you know? I answered, if you told him who you were, he would have given you a few stories about his old Dad!!
  12. Dateline New Orleans Sales Office, January 1966; reported my first day to my sales manager, H. ROSS PEROT!! I was sent home to find socks that matched my tie!! God as my witness, true story!!
  13. You know golf, I have two adopted sons that I have helped find their birth parents; this could be cool!!
  14. Hey, you old flattulant fumblers (my fantasy football handle)!! Just had an epiphiny, because it seems to me that our young AU students and recent grads aren't getting a very good education. The English language is under assault on this board!! And I am talking about simple stuff: First person singular vs. first person plural, etc,. On a personal note, I just had the challenge to be required to learn new computer technology (software and hardware) in a professional situation I was thrust into. Listen, my first job in 1965 out of Auburn was with IBM, but I did not want to touch this thing!! But the kids teaching me used the same bad diction that I see on this board every day. Don't know about you, but I AIN'T calling anybody a redneck in a trailer down by the river, until I master the English language!!
  15. Golf, great story, and I, too, remember that hike, and MY solution was a big, hard to forget unbrella ( the n and m on the keyboard are too close together for us older folks!!) j/k
  16. Does anyone have any timeline info on the tornado that hit Samford Hall? Yesterday was, and is, going to be life-changing for so many people; for that, I am so, so, sorry. And I pray for everyone's safety and well-being. But Auburn University has taken a direct hit from a tornado, but I can't find the details. Help??
  17. OK, "seasoned Auburn citizens", any thoughts on the happenings of the past few weeks? Here's mine. I thought that if Auburn ever won a National Championship in my lifetime, it would be a time of unmeasured joy to me and my family. So far, hasn't worked out that way. In fact, I am now having to "pinch" myself to remember this wonderful, great past season. I have to ask myself,"why in the Good Lord's name, should I allow anything outside my control to affect my unfettered joy? I do not have an answer, but I must be honest and tell you that this crap has gotten the best of me, for now.
  18. Ok, all you old farts, if you're still awake, bring it!! From our perspective, as senior Auburn fans. My son just called and we rehashed our memories watching this team and past ones. From a 67 year old man, it just doesn't get any better. Please guys, let me know how you've spent the last hour, and your thoughts.
  19. Man, I guess it's a sign of age, but I had forgotten about panty raids. Here's some info. Most were impromptu, brought on by Spring fever(most occurred during Spring Quarter). Something about the nights getting warmer, finals and summer vacation on the horizon. They typically would start on old frat row or the houses on College Street (Phi Tau and KA especially), then it would build as word got around to the other houses and Mag dorms. The sororities, located in the women's dorms would soon chime in, and the windows would open and panties would be flying everywhere. The girls loved it!! Most of the time, the raids were harmless, but a few times guys tried to get into the dorms, and, of course, as the alcohol took over, some got nasty and fights broke out. One time, I remember the water hoses coming out!! (that was the extreme!!). Next morning, when the administators tried to find people to suspend on even arrest, no one knew anything!!
  20. I will have to dig into my memory bank for something on him. He was before me, a man with a solid reputation and character, and a championship leader. I'll work on something more concrete for us, though.
  21. Thanks, a4e, but I guess I want to see if I have one more rodeo left in the tank. But I will keep everything in perspective.
  22. Switching gears a little, since this is the time of year when we all reflect on the past year and the past in general. I never thought I would see a year of Auburn football this fantastic in my lifetime. What a magnificant year it has been, with the opportunity to play for a National Chanpionship, a SEC Championship already in the house, a Heisman winner. I don't know about you other "seasoned" guys, but I have found that Camgate has bothered me much more than my kids, and it has caused some tension in my family. I am very, very bitter towards the media (which I abhorred already), not only for their lack of professionalism and due diligence, but more so for their taking the joy and celebration of this season and the damage to the reputation of the University I love so much. I cannot tell you how many times my kids have said: "Let it go, Dad." Anybody else having that problem? On another note, this year has been a very challenging one for me and my family, most of it self-inflicted. We have just purchased a beautiful old farmhouse (circa 1875) which has recently been remodeled. We did this because of the beauty and peacefulness of the countryside, the house itself, and to be closer to my granddaughter's private school. ( We have raised her and her sister since they were babies). This has come, of course, with added financial responsibilities. But the Dear Lord blessed us with an opportunity to take a management position with a retail grocery company. But now, instead of retirement, I am working 50-60 hours/week. All this with a ever-growing arthritic condition in my back and legs. So it has, indeed, been a very eventful year, but one which I will cherish forever. Thank you guys for your friendship, and let's go to Glendale and finish this thing!!!
  23. Thanks slammer, that is a book I want to read. Merry Christmas to all you ole' folks!!
