Aden being ready as a freshman to run the show and adequately defend will determine our ceiling. Love Tre, but we know that’s true. Aden’s scoring brings a wildly different potential dynamic at PG. Let’s also hope Johni stays healthy and then the backup center spot won’t look so concerning. Dylan is more than adequate to bring energy and defense off the bench in limited minutes. Against some teams we may also be able to go a bit smaller with Jaylin and Chaney while Johni is off the floor.

Rumor seems to be that Aden Holloway is out with an injury.

Auburn defeated Furman 110-77. Johni and Denver both with 18. Furman is projected to win the SoCon this year.

Someone is being played. It might be Clemson, or it might be Auburn recruiting site staffers. (Edit: Or, it might be Auburn recruiting site subscribers.) From 2 days ago: Eziomume said it was “never my intentions to get recruited” by Auburn. He said he has also “severed ties” with Auburn running backs coach Cadillac Williams and “made it known” to Williams, coach Hugh Freeze and the rest of the Auburn staff he is fully committed to Clemson.

Even in a world without money in CBB (has never existed, but still) KU is a better basketball destination than Auburn. I don’t feel so bad losing recruits to them. (I would feel bad losing these kids to Alabama, Arkansas, etc.) The question for me going forward is more about Bruce’s HS recruiting choices.

I don’t disagree, but have to think Kevin Plank is involved if Flory commits to an Under Armour school at their marquee event.

Zeek said he “thinks” Tahaad and Flory “might start right away.”

I cannot believe Bruce really pulled this off. I thought this before now, but I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say (accounting for the relative starting points of our various sports) Bruce is probably the single most impactful coach we’ve ever had in any sport.

Interesting re: FSU. His latest interview with comments on all of his finalists screams to me that he’s going there, fwiw.

It sounds like you’re referring to Braden Smith the OT out of Kansas, currently in the NFL. I remember the unbelievable benchpress stats, but didn’t remember he was a wrestler.

FSU may want to leave the ACC, but it’s not clear that can happen anytime soon. The ACC schools agreed to a deal that has them effectively trapped for the time being. If FSU or Clemson is able to negotiate a departure, they’re going to be taking far less money from their new conference than other schools because they’ll be paying off the ACC. I think in the short term, FSU and Clemson are putting pressure on the ACC to give them an unequal (larger) share of the revenue, similar to the deal Texas had in the Big 12. Just my opinion here.

Not exactly the point of your post, but a small part of me reacted to the positive football recruiting with concern for basketball recruiting resources…maybe unnecessarily.

I think it’s fair to worry a bit about the eventual consequences of Bruce’s clear decision to de-emphasize high school recruiting. Perhaps it will turn out to be the right call over the next few years, but it’s a strategy that is still reliant (as all of the best teams are) on landing at least one or two of the top recruits every year.

Did some cursory digging into a few recent BCWs. Based on reporting, it looks like we had at least 6 five stars at BCW in 2014, 5 in 2015, 3 in 2018.

Cam Scott is committing on 8/11. Don’t imagine it will be us, but we’re a “finalist”.

A lot riding on Aden being immediately great at PG, as far as our ceiling goes.

Never got the sense Scott was the top target for Bruce.

My assumption based solely on watching UAH is that he’s really a 4 and won’t actually get much time on the wing. Any thoughts on that, after scrimmage intel?
