  1. And you didn't want to post lmao. You may have missed it earlier, but I posted some Waits. On the Nickel and Invitation to the Blues by Waits are two of my all time favorite songs. Nice choices there golf Speaking of, here's the all time most downloaded episode of Austin City Limits. It's unreal. You have to open your mind to a unique performer, but if you get it...it's pretty awesome.
  2. . I believe we have our threads first "already posted!" Lol.
  3. I still play it regularly. A classic G C D song that's easy to remember whether it's been a week or a year.
  4. humm I knew I'd wake the sleeping giant. LOL. Enjoy! It kills me to stay away from this thread as much as I would like to post but this is really for the younger guys/gals. Both groups were great and seen both multiple times at least that I can remember if you get my drift..... I think you have this thread wrong...most in this thread enjoy all kinds of music, new and old. I love music from all eras and enjoy talking about different types. I also love hearing "new" music I had not heard, whether it be actually new or just new to me. Please feel free to post away.
  5. Same here. He plays a mean guitar though. Blue Oyster Cult....I will forever have Will Farrell and Christopher Walken burned into my brain and they come out every single time I hear that song.
  6. American Songwriter is a very good publication. That's also a very nice song
  7. Well, I know every word to all of those songs and can play about half of them. Of course I graduated HS in 97 so it's pretty much like a HS anthem of sorts. Edit: don't know all the words to Cantaloop, but know the song. Know the words to all the rest... You are 6 years older than me. Not quite...I dont turn 37 til late summer

  9. Or this Ed Anyone 35 or older has, at some point in their lives, walked around singing this song
  10. My two favorite Clapton songs...just happen to be with another great...Steve Winwood
  11. I thought rusty plate full was genius!! Lol. How about Just 3 tanks full?
  12. No need to apologize for bringing up blues. It's the basis for more music in the past 60 years than anything else. Without the blues, most of the music posted in this thread would have remained unrealized. Just about every musician in this thread has a blues influence Blues is one of the best things that ever happened to music. 80 percent of what I listen to is based somewhere in the blues. 80 percent of the music I play is based in blues. Blues is King of Kings...and is the home of kings... ( BB, Albert and Freddie ). Stones, Zeppelin, Young, Hendrix, SRV...the list could go and go and go...all based out of the blues. It's hard to have a music thread without the blues...and if we did, it would probably be a classical music thread
  13. Another from that era...not exactly a lyrical genius...but a heck of a guitar player and solid musician
  14. For those in the area, JJ Grey and Mofro (posted earlier..."Only This River") are at the Druid City Music Hall in Ttown Wednesday night.
  15. Lol. I hear ya. My word of advice...If you absolutely have to use the phrase husky ankles...bury it mid sentence
  16. Unless of course you make a living off of rhymes...Mr Deeds is that you?? but either way....the point was that I was just messing around with giving rhymes for husky ankles. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
  17. I think you're taking rhyming a little too serious. I was just having fun. But in response.....The perfect rhymes are the ones that go unnoticed and flow naturally without seeming forced. It can be done a million ways. Ive used rhyming dictionaries for song writing also. The only ones still caring about exact rhymes are rappers and mainstream country. Most everyone else these days cares more about the story than the rhyme. Heck, even rap is turning that direction in many cases. Cheesy 80s rap was for entertainment really and blew open the cheesy rhyme trend. While that music was entertaining, I prefer the better writing in songs of a free flowing style. That becomes music you can actually feel. That's the music that deeply affects people and helps people through rough times or envokes true feelings one way or another. There is still a place for the other music, but it's becoming less popular for good reason I believe.
  18. Lol. Didn't say it was good...but it rhymes! Crusty rank fool? Trusty crank tool? Crushed and mangled? Just untangled? Lust refangled? Lol. I give up.
  19. Full, pull, lull, dull...close enough. Rusty plate full...
  20. Yep. I have no problem with sad songs. I listen to plenty of them. That was one of the more depressing ones though. Wyoming is ok to visit for a few days...in spring summer or fall....or to go skiing at Jackson Hole. Far Northern Wyoming in the valley, awful freaking winter. We had many many days of wind chills near 40 below zero. It's also basically a desert...hence the wind. The only vegetation taller than 4' was shipped in and planted. The only thing I hate more than miserable cold is cold wind and it was constant. North Dakota, outside the mountainous areas is quite the same. So I suppose with a little backstory as to how awful those winters are, his depressing song makes sense. Especially when he says he wasn't sure if she'd make it to spring. I knew exactly what he meant.
  21. Well that's depressing. Pretty much sums up my feelings about North Dakota nicely haha...or Northern Wyoming where I lived briefly. It's that depressing up in those parts in winter. I've never thought for one second in the last 23 years...man I'd sure like to go to back there!
