I don’t think it would’ve been a free for all if they would’ve just given up a little. I believe that would’ve placated some of the resistance from the players. However, they forces the hand of the players who now have all the leverage. Quite frankly, they were smart to get ahead of it all because they have been getting their asses handed to them throughout the legal system.

True, they definitely are trying to find a systematic approach to allow CFB to hang around. It would be interesting if they will require players to vote a union in as I assume all athletes (no matter the sport) would get to vote.

Auburn budgets $25.7 million for new Jordan-Hare Stadium videoboard

Auburn’s anticipated videoboard upgrade to the north endzone at Jordan-Hare Stadium will cost about $25.7 million, according to material documents posted online for Auburn’s June 7 Board of Trustees meeting.

Documents state the funding will come from gifts to the athletic department, but do not provide further information on the donors.

In the upcoming BOT session, board members will vote on a final approval for the project which was initiated in a Feb. 2, 2024 BOT meeting. The initial approval was unanimous.

Construction can not begin on the videoboard until trustees grant this final approval.

The vote, which is expected to pass, would be the biggest breakthrough in Auburn’s long-standing quest to upgrade the antiquated scoreboard currently in the north endzone. The BOT made a similar initial approval in 2017 for a new videoboard, but the project never came to fruition.

The meeting materials provided new renderings for the anticipated project, in addition to Auburn’s previous renderings from February.

At the Feb. 2 BOT meeting, Dan King, vice president of Auburn’s Property and Facilities Committee, said the current scoreboard installed in 1987 is “truly problematic.” Athletic Director John Cohen stressed the need to modernize the north endzone since the beginning of his Auburn tenure in late 2022.

The new videoboard, should it be approved, will be 47 feet high by 154 feet wide. That is roughly two-thirds the size of the current south endzone videoboard, according to BOT documents.

Since the initial approval in February, Auburn has worked with LYBD Engineers of Birmingham — a previously approved contractor — to finish the design for the videoboard.

Documents for the June 7 meeting explicitly mention improving the gameday experience for Auburn students. Auburn’s student section is in the south endzone meaning Auburn’s only current videoboard is behind the students. The new project would give them a videoboard to look at without turning around.

Cohen has said the videoboard is only the beginning of a longer, more significant renovation process in the Jordan-Hare Stadium north endzone. The larger project, Cohen states, is still in the “dream phase.”

The new videoboard, if approved, will begin construction and Auburn previously stated it anticipates having the board by the 2025 football season.

Rendering doesn’t fit described board dimensions at all. Stated measures are 3x as wide as it is tall?

The attitude I took with professional sports: they won’t/don’t get one dime of my money and by not one dime, I mean: no professional sports paraphernalia, certainly no game tickets, parking, concessions, etc… I have emailed all professional sports major sponsors and told them I would not be buying any of their products for myself, my family and friends to include Christmas presents, birthdays, other holidays, etc.

The only professional sporting event I have watched on television for approximately the last ten years has been the Super Bowl possibly every other year. That is usually because I’ve been invited to a Super Bowl party. Even then, I refuse to watch the ridiculously, politically motivated halftime shows.

Not saying, everyone should be like me, but if everyone did this, financial situations and decisions would certainly change. It simply baffles my mind that people making $20,000 a year and above will buy overpriced tickets into a professional sporting event, pay for parking, pay $7.00 or more for a beer, then go to the local sporting goods stores and pay $65-$165 for a team jersey. I just don’t get it!

I hate to think of doing the same with college sports and my Auburn Tigers but if I have to, I will.

My obvious point: putting a stop to all this nonsense is in our own hands and wallets… But back to the professional sports example, I guess people are just too addicted to it, to put a stop to it. I just hate the fact that college sports is going down the same road.

In the context you describe (professional sporting events) how is CFB any different? I would also add that if you watched superbowls, that is participating in every sense of the context.

Why would they fire him? Ridiculous notion by the author. This will be a nation wide discussion because the money has to come from somewhere. Sports that are not bringing revenue will be hit hard along with smaller schools. Should've thought about this stuff when coaches, leaders of institutions, etc were filling their pockets off the back of these athletes.

I agree with the premise that a well thought out plan would have worked better. I also believe any plan they would have come up with opening the door to allow money to go to players would have would up exactly where we are today.

Also if we are going pro/pay I have a solution for the transfer portal. They use it in FIFA all the time. It's called a transfer fee.

Works just like the portal, you have two periods that a team can purchase you if a team is willing to release you.

I like this idea. Ensures player finds current value. Sometimes works for you but also can work against. Seems like system will have to have yearly release mechanism.

How many times have you heard "they were with me since all the way back in 9th grade" and stuff?

I feel like I've heard that quite a few times. Maybe it was Reuben Foster?

Recruits remember that stuff, especially a legacy (and the son of the player that made arguably the best play in Auburn history).

Not much to argue about on that last statement. Will always be considered best play due more for the timing than the play itself. Greatest plays are usually about timing though.

I guess we will see how it goes....hope for the best...been a brutal few years of trying to watch the games which I always do but past few years, ooof...

True, we will see. I also hope for the best, my comment was trying to draw attention to efforts rather than outcomes. Hopefully the latter reaches the efforts.

I wonder that too. I hear of talented QB’s coming out of AR, but once they hit college ball, I tend to hear less and less about them. Would love if we signed JuJu Lewis. Believe that’s his name.

Seems unreasonable to me to expect less from a player just due to the state he played HS ball in.

Again no one disagrees with what he has done in regards to recruiting, it's the coaching that he appears to have a problem with...hopefully that will improve this year but he seems to make a lot of excuses instead of taking responsibility for his decisions. Again hoping he looks better on the coaching side of things this year...

Well, how many coaches did he change out with the apparent goal of getting better? The two main ones in my mind were both OC and DC ( usually where the during game decisions originate). Looks like to me he is doing just as good if not better in HS recruiting and the portal, with new ( definitely he believes) better on field decisions/game plans. I realize we have to wait for better “results” but definitely can see him chasing that goal.

Hope this kid sticks with us, but commitment doesn't mean the same as it did in the day.  It's a long time until signing day. Ole Miss and MSU NIL will probably have something to say before it's all over .It's hard to get overly excited about early out of state commits. I think we've already had a few to decommit. Let's hope our coaches have learned form this.  WDE!!

I’m excited, just am also aware things change!!

I'll not be fooled again!  I've let my heart override my head relative to AU football and I've gotten wrapped with pre-season hype for a decade only to be let down by the actual results.  I did lay $100 on the over 6.5 wins, fingers crossed Hugh can get it done.

Even though I never wager, I believe this to be a good bet!!Lol

If Alabama voters pass the gambling legislation this fall, that should help the partial scholarship sports. I don't see it affecting NIL or the full scholarship sports very much.

It will surprise me greatly, if they get a bill passed by both House and Senate.

I like BMatt. I really do but he can kiss my butt on this one. I didn't go to the games and shout at Bo. I didn't boo him although I did refer to him as a coach killer. I absolutely think still to this day he is not a great QB. He improved from awful to a game manager in my opinion(I bolded this part for emphasis). I will wear the dislikes like a badge of honor. There is no doubt that Harsin and Malzahn didn't surround Bo with the best talent. Bo isn't responsible for that. He is responsible for his poor play though. He didn't make it better and didn't make it worse. Good Qbs make the players around them better.

If you think I'm wrong, I'm fine with that. I think the fact he is a legacy for Auburn clouds some of the judgement around Auburn places. So I guess we will be even on that and we can agree to disagree.

They don’t usually draft a game manager at 12, but they do miss on QB’s at times.

It's back working now. I suspect Firefox was was slow to connect or the auburntigers site was slow to re-connect to firefox. Anyway, as my grandma used to say, "All's well that ends".

“Well”. Need that for statement to be proper!!!

I agree with you. I didn’t graduate AU, my father did in ‘67, so I was raised an AU fan. I understand, but can’t stand the NIL. A full ride for these players means nothing anymore. AU will never reach the pinnacle again with this new Super Conference. I find it hard to watch College ball anymore with the portal nut-show and the pay me pay me attitude. Yes, I’m older, but the game for me, my opinion only, has been ruined and I find myself less and less interested with each passing season. It’s quite pathetic in my opinion, but I’m not a wealthy booster or anything more than a long time fan of the sport in general. I’ve always loved the NFL, secondly to College, but there is much less difference now, except for the top contracts. In the end I will always be an AU fan, but Fall Saturdays are no longer at the top of my list.

As long as “this stuff” doesn’t pull AU team off the field, I assume I will be watching. “This stuff “ helps determine who will play, but not “ if we will play”. I am not giving up my love for watching CFB!!

Exactly. He’s perfect for our system. Again though, UK is selling all out to get Pope top tier recruits. Don’t get me wrong, I actually don’t think he’s a bad coach at all, but I also don’t think he’s a game changer for them. Also, having to build from scratch with players who have never played with each other before is going to take a year. I mean, look at the NBA with their super teams. It took the Heat 2 years before they got a title with James, Bosh and Wade. I don’t think it’s going to be as easy as many people think to just overhaul a roster and think they are going to gel within a year.

I think it depends on what type system is being used. Our system takes awhile due to the defense requirements.

There is no anti-trust exemption and wasn’t one in effect when this class-action lawsuit was filed.  The ncaa and college administrators are currently working on settlement terms so that this lawsuit doesn’t make it to the Jan ‘25 court date.  The settlement will be in excess of $4billion and it will be paid from the NCAA and member schools pockets.  In other words, SEC schools will be footing part of this tab to pay former athletes.

Going forward it doesn’t have to be this way. But no one, more specifically Congress has even made an effort to pass legislation that would exempt college athletics from antitrust laws.

Not sure anti-trust does away with NIL rights.
