I'd argue the stats show that the defense was good, if not great. 22nd and 24th out of the last 54 Auburn defenses is not bad. We've had quite a few elite defenses over the years.

Isn’t 22 and 24th halfway to the worst? I wouldn’t say that was too good if I understood your data you shared.

Based on what…how do we know factually he was asked?

I don’t!! Based on timing of increased rumor around newest target. Those rumors typically start leaking out shortly before announcements (in past). Paves the way for noise to quiet down before teal announcement.

IDK, it makes little sense.  Not sure why we'd wait for a guy who has been available for so long.  Not sure much has been lost with signing day past, but seems weird to all of a sudden be ready to close with another guy as soon as our #1 is possibly available.

Surely looks like Kiffin said “no”.

I read the article . Appreciate you posting. I would venture they are jumping to a conclusion also as they specifically stated notices did not identify that specific case. They also didn’t use “sources” as identifying why they thought it was this case. They could have jumped to the correct conclusion though!! Lol

the heat on my heat pump went out salty. the air has been gone. i am sitting in the den covered up with the dogs and one space heater so it took a while for me to unthaw.

Good morning Fifty. Did you set it to emergency ( my thermostat has a setting for when it’s too cold for heat pumps to warm it up).

    Wouldn’t surprise me.
Although I’m not sure what the rush would be if Kiffin is the right man for the job. I don’t really feel like waiting negatively impacts us, but I could see wanting to get it done and start building some momentum into the spring. Does another week or two make that big of a difference? 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

Probably only potentially effects portal recruiting at this point.

An interesting question. I would suspect that commits who have not signed a LOI and decommit will be subtracted from the recruiting grades. But as to players who signed? Were they early enrollees who practiced with the team during bowl period? Then I'd suspect those woukd not be removed from the recruiting grades even if they now decide to jump ship.

This is just conjecture on my part. I guess we will find out after NSD in a few weeks.

I think they don’t make any changes at this point.

It's just hard to think this will be a meaningless ADay game. Thorne is hanging by a thread and the youngsters behind him will (should) use every opportunity to show their stuff. Many other starting positions in the balance too but IMHO this will be the most MEANINGFUL ADay game for QBs since Cam went to the NFL.

Near impossible to get many touches for 4 QB’s in an A-day game. Almost have to cut it to 2.

It has since been reported that in involves the recruiting of that 5 star qb who decommitted after claiming that UF reneged on his NIL deal. (Rashada?)

Gotcha, looking for that report. Seems like if that wasn’t included in the letter these reports ate just guessing as to reasons.

I’m aware. In the FSU case it was a cash inducement which is still not allowable. If investigations start uncovering under the table cash and unreported income, the IRS can absolutely get involved. My reference to universities is pointed toward NCAA investigations and the bad publicity. Also the potential for lost revenue if the athletic programs are sanctioned.

Gotcha, didn’t understand your reference but completely agree with you.

    NCAA investigating Florida Gators football

    Updated: Jan. 19, 2024, 5:17 p.m.|Published: Jan. 19, 2024, 4:34 p.m.

The Tampa Bay Times is reporting the NCAA is investigating the Florida Gators football program.

The NCAA investigation involves the recruitment of quarterback Jaden Rashada, Brett McMurphy reports. Rashada signed with Florida but was released from his letter of intent and is at Arizona State.

The investigation has been ongoing since the summer, perhaps longer. According to the report, on June 9, the NCAA sent Florida President Ben Sasse a notice of inquiry.

It took nearly three months for The Tampa Bay Times’ request for the letter to be honored after, per The Times, the news outlets legal counsel got involved.

“We have been and will continue to cooperate with the NCAA,” Gators spokesperson Steve McClain said, per The Times. “We hold ourselves to high standards of excellence and integrity on and off the field. Because we follow NCAA policies about maintaining confidentiality, we are unable to offer additional comments.”

The NCAA hit the Gators with one year of probation in 2020 for recruiting violations under then-coach Dan Mullen.

Check out the full report here.

Mark Heim is a reporter for The Alabama Media Group. Follow him on Twitter @Mark_Heim. He can be heard on “The Opening Kickoff” on WNSP-FM 105.5 FM in Mobile or on the free Sound of Mobile App from 6 to 9 a.m. daily.

This report by Heim doesn’t match the info in the link above. That link says that the NCAA investigation letter did not specify what the investigation was about just that there was an investigation on-going.

Pandora’s box is wide open now. The NCAA may be the least of the worries with NIL. The IRS is going to want their cut and if they get involved it could get real ugly for the players and universities. The SMU stuff of the 80s is child’s play compared to what’s happening now.

Universities aren’t responsible for anything relative to an individual’s taxes. NIL collectives are only responsible for the actual forms (unless holding are required). Surely those items are covered when signing the NIL deals.

The problem is that we might actually be a pretty senior heavy starting lineup again this year--certainly on the OL. So, my below goals could end up reversing; regardless, at least seven reg season wins both the next two years and one eight win reg season between the two shouldn't be too much to ask.

Due to player movement through the portal, we will have to judge yearly (fall practice) what our season will look like. Perfectly normal to cheer/hope for future success or to set reasonable expectations for coaching staff.

"And he’ll continue to be here and be part of our program and we’re very happy for that. And I’ll tell you, I’ll give coach DeBoer a ton of credit, he’s embraced that, as he should," Byrne said.

As he should. Because we require it, contactually, since we otherwise have no confidence in Kaitlyn DeBoer. Coach Saban has Coach Kaitlyn washing his car and doing his laundry and seeking coach's favorite candy, the legendary Chick O Stick. All this greatly assists Coach Kaitlyn in his acclimation. So this relationship is going really well as far as you know. There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that we have our legal school preparing frivolous lawsuits agains players who are entering the portal until they withdraw their names. Roll Tide. Oh, and please visit our NIL bake sale this afternoon.

    Terrific post.

The new question will be if it will be enough to overcome Vandy. Vandy got the New Mexico State QB and hired Jerry Kill as a senior offensive analyst. So I am now concerned about that game.

Transfer Portal: New Mexico State QB Diego Pavia Commits to Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt football head coach Clark Lea has announced that veteran coach Jerry Kill will join Vanderbilt as chief consultant to the head coach and senior offensive advisor.

Well, at least he won’t be peeing on the “V”!!!
