    A few questions.
#1 - Do you agree with players receiving funds from NIL?

#2 - If answer to #1 is yes, are you contributing?

#3 - If answer to #2 is yes, how do feel about those who don’t contribute?

#4 - If the answer to #2 is no, who is responsible for funding NIL?

#5 - If one does not personally contribute to NIL, unless contributing to TUF or other means to AU, how valid is their opinion in the matter?

Seems to me that universities should help fund NIL (but to stay compliant it should be blind trust ), coaches should also help ( they and universities are main beneficiaries of CFB).

There’s a few plausible reasons. Everyone focuses on play calling. But coordinators do more than that. The head coach will usually have a hand in everything at least a little bit. But the coordinators are the main overseers for their side of the ball. They break down film of opponents to find weaknesses, break down our game film to look for things that need to be drilled, plan and run their side of the ball at practices, and then there’s all the duties that come with finding and recruiting prospects.

When you see “co coordinator,” there’s usually a main coordinator that’s in charge. But they are getting assistance with one or more of these duties. For example, in the past, we’ve had coaches carry the title “co-OC/run game coordinator.” That person was given some duties to assist with the development of our play calling plan for plays where the OC wants to run the ball. They do the scouting of the opponent, and figure out what kinds of run plays are most likely to work, then draw up a list based on down and distance for what they think the OC should run.

If I had to guess, Charles Kelly has been brought in mostly to handle the personnel side of the defense. If the rumors are true and Chris Kiffin is the main candidate, he doesn’t love recruiting. But Kelly a dynamite recruiter, and has a good eye for talent. If that’s the case, the main DC will likely focus most of his attention on game prep and scouting opponents, and will leave duties like scouting prospects, recruiting defensive players, etc. more to Kelly.

From what I understand (probably not much) analysts breakdown future opponents and devise gameplans which then are routed to Coordinators, before being shared with HC. Probably in actuality it depends on who you got in what role thst determines this.

I'm sorry if it's already been mentioned and I just missed it but I wonder why Coach Freeze feels like we need co-DC's?

As of right now, all of our position groups have their coach. D-Line is Jeremy Garrett, linebackers is Josh Aldridge, safeties and co-DC is Charles Kelly and cornerbacks is Crime Dog.

I know Charles Kelly is co-DC as well as safeties coach. Will the other co-DC, whomever it will be, also be a position coach as well? If so, then what position will they coach since all of our defensive position groups already have their coach?

It seems like Freeze could've named Charles Kelly the full DC and safeties coach kinda how he has Derrike Nix as OC and RB coach. WDE

Need someone to call defense, I believe. Seems to not be Kelly’s forte.

Guys who like college and like recruiting? Crazy idea I know. What is more bizarre to me is someone coming to the college ranks who does not want to recruit.

    here you go pal:

Surprisingly not every individual is driven by money

Gotcha. I knew it happens sometimes but not too often. Good find, he turned down a ST’s coaching position to stay in a head coaching position. But he still probably turned down a raise. I don’t think it’s just the money either, NFL is highest level of a job that most of them love and aspire to be the best at. I don’t think it’s always money. Seems to imply better for time spent with family. Not a negative in my mind to want to stay or go to NFL.

It doesn’t look like Kiffin wants to get into the rat race of college coaching and prefers the NFL no matter what.  I mean he can stay where he’s at if he’s satisfied there.

That could definitely be true. I know he left his brother to go immediately back to NFL. But his team took him right back so they definitely did want him back.

  6. 2 hours ago, DAG said:

No you have no clue if all OCs or DCs would. But there is conjuncture that Kiffin would and that’s problematic IMO. Along with the assumption that he really doesn’t want to recruit . To me he is not worth it if that is the case. There are other qualified DC who have done it this level in the past and very passionate about the college game. The whole mantra here is stability.

Ha, your correct. What OC/DC in college would want to go to NFL make more money and not have to recruit?? Crazy idea, I know. I’m thinking (my point) is anybody we hire is most likely to take an equivalent NFL job. I have tried to remember one that has turned down an offer to go to NFL but there may be a few that would rather work with young people to impact lives.

  7. 1 minute ago, DAG said:

Not the point. It’s the fact that it shows his hand. He apparently doesn’t want to recruit and definitely prioritizing the NFL.only prioritizing NFL at DC. He can stay (apparently as LB coach) where he is at. It’s true if he comes and does well might move back to NFzl if given opportunity but all OC/DC ‘s would.

Definitely don’t want Durkin either. Surely these aren’t are only two candidates. No clue why we would want to wait on Kiffin to see if he can get an NFL job (if true). That is ridiculous. He will bounce as soon as one becomes available and show interest.

Kiffin has never been an NFL DC after a long time at that side (his whole career outside of 1st), plus has many inside connections through his father. NFL DC not a likely scenario.

It’s very odd that we’re a week out from Kiffin’s season ending, and we’re weeks past the end of the CFB season. Surely we have to have someone lined up by now.  Is there any chance the delay is because it’s someone unexpected that’s coaching with one of the final 4 NFL playoff teams?

I think waiting on all NFL DC’s chosen.

I could have his job duties mixed up then. I thought he played a heavy role in recruiting alongside maintaining strong relationships with current players….

That’s probably a better explanation than I gave. Don’t believe it was the same role that the new guy from LSU is doing though.

I don’t think they did/do the same job, but maybe the same outcome is expected. I’m curious to see if Trovon decided to leave before or after Redmond was coming onboard

I thought Reed’s job was more about players already in the system rather than recruitment. Know he did recruiting when 10 coaches were not on staff.

Yes they probably saw what happened to Alabama’s roster and are worried. Agreed on the risk. I don’t think UM is a coordinator hire job. I would go after DeBoer, Kelly, or Fickell.

Kelly is probably the one that is gettable, and fits from success and connections. Will be highest paid out there but they were probably going that way anyway. Also will probably have probationary impacts which generally pushes contract terms longer.

a-Coleman ... only because Perry isn't an EE

b-Bryce Cain.... he is going to make us forget all about the RW saga. kid is a legit stud in the slot and I think he will have 4 years of production vs cam and Perry having 3 and likely hitting the league

If anyone is as effective as you describe, they will probably not be around 4 years.

At least for this year, feels like the offensive line is shaping up to be a strength for us? But yeah defensive line needs help.

We look like we have better OL players, but gotta see how they gel.

Lol I didn't even get that. I had a random guy say I was arguing with you if I'm not mistaken when there was no argument going on.

Couldn't even make up me doing anything wrong

I can certainly make up you doing wrong. I have quite the imagination….Lol

Science has pretty much confirmed the entitled kids thing to be a complete myth. Every “generation” says it about younger ones. In fact, I have close colleagues that have done generations research. Generations in general have no predictive power behind studying population growth and decline. People are generally the same as they’ve been for a very long time. As such, the whole “they’re just a bunch of entitled kids” argument doesn’t really hold up.

But let’s consider that argument as valid for a second.  Let’s assume kids are just entitled now. Wouldn’t that matter in establishing a culture? If the premise that they’re entitled brats is true, that means coaches have to account for that when building a program’s culture or risk losing the team.

Also, for a final point, look at other programs. Are mass numbers of players at other schools walking out of team meetings on the regular? Obviously something that was said in that meeting at a minimum rubbed his team the wrong way. Is it a sign of a cultural problem? Not necessarily. It could have been one thing he said wrong in that meeting. But it is still suspicious.

Must be the “older folks” ruining the next generation (they are the only ones left to blame if you remove the younger ones as a possible answer). Maybe we just got to wait awhile to get a definitive answer. Lol

Reported this afternoon - he’s met with them twice now.   Of course he could be milking this to the max to get a heck of a pay raise out of Michigan.  I know if I were Michigan I’d do everything possible to keep him because if he leaves it would set back that program back big time.  I’m sure the PTB at UM are watching what is going on at bammer now.

I believe he has met twice with Atlanta, also.

I heard we have money to spend - just choosing where to spend it and it’s not on the portal.  The plan is to get high school kids in, develop them, then keep them with NIL.

My thoughts are that Kiffin strategy is better. Use most of NIL to get proven good/great players every year and using schollys/smaller NIL offering for HS players to build around them.
