  1. Those idiots over on the Auburn page of The Rant truly believe that Nick Saban retired all because he knows that Hugh Freeze is taking over and Saban doesn't want to deal with it. Forget that Alabama just went undefeated in the SEC, won their millionth SEC Title by beating a Georgia team on a 29 game win streak, came 1 play from making it to the National Title game, has the #3 recruiting class and won 12 games this year. Meanwhile look at our chaotic situation where we're losing 7 games for 3 straight years, can't beat Bama or Georgia, our QB is VERY meh, Caddy and Zac's problems, coordinators fired AGAIN but we brought in some highly rated WR's so Saban is shaking in his boots and had to retire. The same folks on The Rant also claimed Bear Bryant was scared to deal with Pat Dye so he retired because of that. Nevermind that Bear's health was freaking dead man walking and he would die very soon after retiring. The Rant AU page probably thinks Bear had his heart attack because he was so scared of Pat Dye and AU. I guess that's how a big portion of our fanbase copes with our current chaotic situation and 5 year dark cloud that is Auburn football. They just tell themselves that DeBoer will be exactly like Harsin and that Freeze is putting the GOAT out of a job by going 6-7 again and chaos on our staff. Whatever helps them sleep at night I guess. A HUGE portion of our fanbase is freaking delusional as hell.
  2. Thanks. I didn't know about the recruiting restrictions for Trovon before now. I'm glad he can be out recruiting more now. When the off the field analyst roles got popular, was there ever a time where the analyst couldn't be on the sideline at games? The reason I ask is because back when Saban hired Butch Jones as an offensive analyst, I thought at that time they were limited to game planning and basically had to stay at the facility and couldn't be at games on the sidelines. But I would always see Butch Jones on the Bama sideline and sometimes he would even have a headset on so it was confusing to me what the actual rules were back then for analysts when coaches first started using them.
  3. Gosh I can't stand Bammers. They're saying they have their pick of the litter between Dabo, Lanning, Mario Cristobal, Kiffin, Sarkisian, Napier, Muschamp, Bill O'Brien, Brian Daboll, Butch Jones, Jimbo, Kirby Smart (yes, they said Kirby), Mike Locksley, Demeco Ryans (current HC of the Texans), Mark Dantonio, Derek Dooley. All of those coaches either played at Alabama (Dabo and Demeco Ryans) or coached under Nick Saban. I've heard several that truly think Kirby would leave his alma mater, Georgia, to come back and coach Bama. They're so freaking arrogant. If they get someone from Saban's coaching tree, I would prefer they hire Jeremy Pruitt or Mel Tucker. 😂 (I know they won't and can't). I have a weird feeling this hire is going to be a little out of left field like our Chizik or Harsin hire or Brian Kelly to LSU. Nobody saw those 3 hires coming. With everybody expecting a past Saban asst. coach or an alum to get the job, I think it could be totally opposite.
  4. Colin Cowherd just said on his FS1 show that Alabama has been really interested in Kalen DeBoer for the last 6 to 8 weeks. For those that don't know, Cowherd grew up in Washington and has quiet a few friends/family that are associated with the school by being alum, boosters or board members. Colin is a huge Washington homer and loves west coast football in general. DeBoer won 3 NAIA National Titles at Sioux Falls. He was also the OC at Indiana a few years ago when they only lost 2 games and had Michael Penix Jr as his QB. He then went to Washington and was on a 21 game winning streak until Michigan beat them last week. DeBoer is why Penix transferred to Washington. Going into the National Title game last week, DeBoer's career record was 105-11. Guy can coach and calls his own offensive plays. I don't want DeBoer at Alabama. Personally, I don't think he goes there because he is an outsider like Harsin was. Plus, Washington is in the Big 10 starting this year.
  5. Texas just announced their QB, Quinn Ewers, will return to Texas next year instead of entering the draft. That's not good for us in my opinion. I still think we are probably leading but Ewers returning is big. They also have Arch Manning even though he barely played this season. He is still better than what we have at QB. Don't count Alabama out of this thing either.
  6. I agree. 1983 Charley Pell had a good year where they finished top 5 or 6 and then Galen Hall had two years where they finished 3rd and 5th right after Pell left. Mainly, I was thinking about 1990 and forward, when Spurrier arrived and won 7 SEC titles in his 12 years there and 1 Natty. Then Urban Meyer won 2 Natty's after Ron Zook was fired. You probably remember that Florida wasn't real attractive until Spurrier arrived in 1990. They were a team that would have a really good year then 6 or 8 mediocre years. LSU was the exact same way before Saban arrived around 2000. They too would have a really good year and then 8 average or bad years. Spurrier and Saban are the 2 that really put Florida and LSU on the right path to being serious contenders year after year. Florida has fallen off quiet a bit just like we have here at Auburn. LSU has seemed to keep their run going no matter what coach they have. I would love to be where LSU has been for 20+ years now.
  7. I said Florida, over time, can be tougher than playing Georgia. Since 1990, Florida has like 10 SEC titles and 3 Natty's. Georgia doesn't have nothing close to that many SEC titles and only 2 titles during that time. Spurrier and Urban Meyer, collectively, had an 18 year run at Florida. Add in double digit win seasons by Muschamp, 2 by McElwain and a few by Mullen and Florida has had arguably a better run over time than Georgia has. Georgia has only been a real juggernaut since 2017. Richt had 15 good years but only 2 SEC titles and no Natty's. With Kirby's run not looking like it will slow down anytime soon, Georgia will probably pass Florida in those departments.
  8. I answered you so we can agree to disagree. No biggie. We still want what's best for Auburn. I'll stop because the thread title is about Philip Montgomery being fired and we've totally went off course of what this thread is. Have a good rest of your evening sir!
  9. I will say this though, Bo was a true freshman that year and we beat the Pac 12 champions Oregon and we beat Alabama. We lost 23-20 in Baton Rouge to Joe Burrow's LSU team that went 15-0. Us and Alabama were the only 2 teams that LSU didn't beat by double digits. We lost to Georgia, lost in the Swamp to a really good Florida team then looked bad in our bowl game against Minnesota. So I agree with what you said but nobody outside of our fanbase will ever look at that season other than the 9-4 record.
  10. Record books will always say 10-4 and 9-4 though. If we are breaking down every little detail, then every program could say "yeah but we lost our QB that week and this WR had the flu." At the end of it all, you are what your record says.
  11. I answered your question a few texts ago. I said Georgia and Bama wouldn't give a damn what schedule they play. I also said LSU faces Florida which over time can be argued is harder than us facing Georgia. There's your answer. I think those 3 would trade schedules because I think those 3 aren't programs that are scared to play anybody.
  12. Ok. Are you also a fan that when I mention us losing back to back years to Penn State you say "That was because we had a bad coach so that doesn't count." Ol' cherry picking type fan?
  13. So if those 3 schools not trading schedules with us makes us elite?
  14. To be honest, I don't think Georgia or Alabama would give a damn who they play. LSU faced Florida during Spurriers 7 SEC titles in 12 years at Florida, they faced Florida with Urban Meyer and Tebow winning everything for 4 years. Even when Florida has "bad" coaches they nearly play for a Natty like Muschamp nearly did at Florida, or Jim McElwain winning back to back SEC East titles, or Dan Mullen winning the SEC East and having 10 and 11 win seasons. So an easy arguement can be made that, over time, LSU playing Florida every year has been as hard or harder than us playing Georgia. But since you say that we are elite, that means Texas A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Mississippi State have to play Alabama, LSU and Auburn every year. All 3 of those elite in your opinion. Tennessee plays Alabama, Georgia and Florida every year. Florida plays Georgia, Tennessee, LSU and Florida State every year. USCe plays Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Clemson every year. I know our schedule is hard but so is alot of other programs as well. I still think we are a really good program throughout our history, not elite though. Just some flashes here and there. I think fandom can override the obvious for alot of people. Answer this: if you weren't an Auburn fan, would you look at Auburn as elite? Be honest.
  15. You didn't say recent. You made a list of last 25 years champions.
  16. Florida won in 2006 and 2008 dude. Urban Meyer, Tebow???????
  17. When I think of elite, I think of teams who have won 10+ games in back to back seasons more than one time like we have done. When I think of elite, I think of teams that don't lose 4 or more games 21 of the past 26 years like we have. Or lost 5 or more games 16 of the past 26 years like we have. When I think of elite, I think of teams that don't go 5-7, 8-5, 14-0, 8-5, 3-9 like we did from 2008 to 2012. Elite teams can win in Baton Rouge, Athens and Tuscaloosa more than once every 15 or 20 years. Elite teams don't lose to Minnesota, Northwestern, Maryland, UCF, Wisconsin when their AD coached the damn bowl game and beat us, Penn State back to back years and so on. Besides the 1980's, Auburn has always been a program that goes 8-5 most years and has a great year once a decade. There's a reason why numerous articles have been written through the years stating that the Auburn football program is the most inconsistent of the programs that has success. We brag about our 2017 season which garnered 10 wins but also 4 losses. Some brag about 2019 and it was a 9-4 season. Thats what our program has been reduced to since 2020 is bragging and calling a 9-4 or 10-4 season great. Maybe you view elite differently than me but I don't think our football program is elite and the ONLY time I would even consider it is 1983-1988 or 2004-2006. That's it. We are good most years with 1 great year per decade. We are WILDLY inconsistent as well. Just my opinion.
  18. You say Georgia, Alabama and LSU only plays 1 national title team a year but Auburn plays 3 which are LSU, Bama and Georgia. You also say Auburn is elite and your list of the last 25 years of national champs includes several SEC teams. So you say LSU only plays 1 national title team a year but LSU also plays Auburn and Florida every year so, by your own admission of us being elite, as well as your list of past champions that means LSU plays Alabama, Auburn and Florida each year which are 3 national champions. Georgia plays Auburn and Florida every year so that's 2 champions they play and if we go off your list, Tennessee would also be put on that list of champions so Georgia plays 3 per year as well. Alabama plays LSU, Auburn and Tennessee each year and that's 3 champions as well.
  19. That would be the ideal scenario, imo.
  20. I wonder if Hugh hires an OC? What's been rumored the last few days is like you said, that Hugh will call plays next season and Kent will be moved from being an offensive analyst like he was this season, to being the new QB coach but they're not sure if Hugh will also make Kent our OC or just hire a young OC to possibly install Hugh's gameplans each week during practice.
  21. Just saw where LSU landed Bryce Underwood. He's the #1 QB and #1 overall player in the 2025 class. He lives in Michigan and every team seems to have offered him. LSU now has the #1 QB, #1 RB and #1 WR in the 2025 class. I didn't see anything on this forum about Bryce Underwood or that Auburn offered him. Did we even go after this kid?
  22. Brad Crawford at 247 said the 6 teams to watch for Judkins is Auburn, LSU, Bama, Florida State, Michigan and Oregon. He also said Caddy made a very late push for Judkins at signing day 2 years ago but Judkins chose Ole Miss. I've always read on this board that Harsin said Judkins was too small and didn't want him. If true, then Caddy making a hard push to get him at signing day doesn't line up with the news spread on here that Harsin never wanted him.
