  1. Actually 2005 season didn't have an SEC team in the national title game either as it was Texas vs USC and Vince Young single handedly won that national title for Texas. Gene Chizik was the DC that 2005 season for Texas. To this day, that Texas vs USC game is the best game I've ever watched.
  2. I totally agree!! I'm wondering if he is keeping this coaching staff intact as well. He addressed the departure of McGriff pretty quickly by hiring Charles Kelly. I've read Kelly will coach safeties and be co-DC so that tells me Ron Roberts will probably be safe and be co-DC with Kelly. Montgomery is the coach that needs to be cut loose but if Freeze was going to do it, I think it would've been done by now. It would make no sense for Montgomery to still be here going on 5 days since our season ended. Most coaches get fired right after the last regular season game and there will be a new position coach in place for the bowl game. Dabo hired Matt Luke as his O-Line coach not long ago and Luke was on the sidelines coaching in their bowl game against Kentucky. It won't shock me at all if Hugh keeps everybody. I don't trust Montgomery's playcalling or game-planning and from what Hugh has said, he doesn't seem to trust him either. That's why Montgomery still being here makes no sense.
  3. I totally get that Seth McLaughlin is inconsistent this season with his snaps but the Alabama fans have completely destroyed this guy on social media, message boards and the call-in shows like Finebaum. I would think that Saban told him to enter the portal but even if he wasn't told to enter, I would probably enter the portal on my own simply because of that rabid fanbase. I saw a stat on TV today that said the Alabama O-Line has given up nearly 150 sacks in just the past 3 seasons alone. And that's with Bryce Young and Milroe as their QB's and they can scramble/run very well. Imagine if they had McElroy, McCarron or Mac Jones at QB the past 3 years. That number would probably be around 250 because those 3 couldn't run worth a damn. That's a ton of sacks for an O-Line that's full of 4 and 5 star guys. I know that Seth McLaughlin is part of that O-Line but it goes to show that they're not being developed along the O-Line. For comparison, I believe Peyton Thorne was sacked 34 times this season and that's with former Group of 5 O-Linemen, a true freshman Connor Lew at center and 3 star guys mixed in with them Bama has ALOT more issues on that team and staff than just bad snaps from their center but that toothless fanbase has to have a scapegoat to attack and ruin his life. I swear they're the worst fanbase in college sports.
  4. Over on the Florida Gators message boards, they were talking about Scooby hitting the portal and they all kinda said the same thing: he's pretty average but they need him for depth purposes because they're thin behind him. Just as far as his play goes, they don't seem to think much of him. I really wanted him at Auburn out of high school.
  5. I saw where we offered BJ Mayes in the portal. He's currently a cornerback at UAB. He is from Houston, Texas and played 2 years at Incarnate Word and this year at UAB. He said his current offers are from Memphis, Illinois, Arkansas, Texas A&M and Auburn. His numbers were pretty good the past 2 years.
  6. He means that Hugh Freeze always has a WTF stinker game every year like NMSU this year, Maryland this year, NMSU last year, etc. He loses a game or games every year where he is a big favorite but gets beat by 2 or more TD's. Saban doesn't do that every year or ever really. Saban usually loses in OT or by a few points. His big losses are 2 TD's by Ohio State or a 12 point loss to Auburn in 2017. Saban and Hugh Freeze's losses aren't even in the same universe. I'm sure someone will point out losing on the road to La Monroe and that's fine. Bama was coming off probation but whatever.
  7. New Mexico State, Maryland without their QB or top 3 defensive players. We got out of the Cal game with highway robbery. Did we beat a single team with a winning record this season? Go read the article from after the Maryland game of what Thorne, Fairweather and Faulk all said about the culture of this team all season. Players not showing up to team meetings on time. There's a huge divide on this team and the players, as well as Hugh, are saying there's a big culture problem on this team. They're saying it's getting worse over time, not better. But I guess Hugh is out recruiting WR's and can't be there to fix the issues. In Hugh's postgame pressers all year or pressers during the week he tells reporters "I called plays against Georgia. I didn't call plays against NMSU. I called plays against Bama. I didn't call plays against Maryland. I wasn't in on the game planning for Maryland. I made the gameplan for Arkansas." Remember during the year when the commentators for our game said "We talked to Hugh at dinner last night and he said Montgomery calls plays when Payton Thorne is in and Hugh calls plays when Robby is in." Remember that? It sounds unorganized as hell. Thorne and Robby even said they had no idea why they continued swapping QB's nearly all season. It clearly wasn't working and neither QB had ever been in a system where they swapped out mid drive multiple times a game. But Hugh kept doing it and then after 9 games he says "Did playing 2 QB's work? Maybe it did, maybe it didn't. I still believe 2 QB's will work." Its like he couldn't swallow his pride and just say my plan didn't work. Hell, all of us fans hated it all year and the 2 QB's said they didn't like it. Why can't the QB Guru see that as well? Maybe it's just me but Hugh Freeze seems very unorganized. I feel he is a good offensive mind, a great recruiter of high school players, mediocre in the portal and VERY unorganized as a CEO of the Auburn football program. I usually wouldn't turn to his off the field issues but for this conversation I am. His personal life, off the field life, was very crazy and very unorganized while he coached Ole Miss. His life seemed very easy while he coached Arky State and Liberty. And here at Auburn, it seems to be too much for him in my opinion. I think Hugh is a good COACH but a bad CEO. And just like Cole Cubelic has said when he talked to all the AD's at SEC schools, they don't look for an X's and O's coach anymore to lead their football programs. They look for people that are great at being the CEO type because today's college football is very big business and the head coach has so much on his plate. He has to be able to be very organized and almost military like Saban, Kirby, etc. Look how quick Ed Orgeron bombed out at LSU and Ole Miss. His personal life was absolutely crazy and it showed. Look how Les Miles off field life got crazy at LSU and he bombed out soon after. Look at the old Lane Kiffin and his off field life and his coaching was terrible. Kiffin has now divorced, settled down and his record shows that on the field. Those SEC AD's told Cole Cubelic that most the time a coaches personal life will mirror his coaching. I believe that. I don't think Hugh Freeze and even Bryan Harsin fully grasped what they were getting into taking this job. This isn't 2012 SEC ball anymore and Hugh has said that a few times. He has mentioned he loved golfing 2 or 3 days a week at Liberty but never golfs here at Auburn due to the workload. He has said his wife asks him why did he get back into the SEC West again. I watch all of Hugh's interviews that I can find and he seems to me like he didn't fully realize what he was getting back into. He even said a few times when hired that he has always turned programs around very quickly and this one would be no different. Then in fall camp he says he didn't realize just how far off we are and that it won't be a quick turnaround. Sorry for the long post but just me personally, I think that Hugh struggles with organization and struggles with big jobs. Ole Miss was off the rails for him and this season seems unorganized if you listen to everything he and the players say. I think Group of 5 head coach or an OC at a Power 5 school is more his speed. Just my opinion.
  8. I keep saying that Hugh Freeze's teams and his career seem to be way up and way down like a rollercoaster. Well, just look at this season: we win our first 3 games, we lose our next 4 games in a row, then we win the next 3 games in a row and then lose our final 3 games in a row. Make whatever excuse as to why it happened but the fact still remains that it's up and down, up and down.
  9. Think about the 2 games this year that this staff had extra time to prepare for; the LSU game coming off a bye week where we lost 48-18 and this bowl game where we had a month and 15 practices to get ready and we find ourselves down 21-0 in the 1st qtr and lose 31-13. Btw, Maryland scored those 31 points in the first 3 quarters. We are worse when we have extra time to prepare. Go watch Payton Thorne's interview postgame and you will see and hear a dude that was completely checked out on this season before the team ever got to Nashville. He even says that he just wanted this year to be over and all he has looked forward to since signing day was these new recruits coming in for next season. Thorne may run hard and take big shots from defenders to get an extra yard but he isn't a leader and I don't care that he's a 3 year Captain. He isn't vocal at all and there's a ton of times this season we needed a Michael Jordan, Kobe, Tom Brady type leader to get in these players faces and atleast try to get through to them that this s*** ain't cutting it. But he doesn't do it. If you ain't gonna be a vocal leader, you better be leading by example and your play. In my opinion he has done neither. Dude let an 18 year old Hank Brown step onto the field for the first time ever in college and he showed up Thorne in just 2 series. The team seemed to have a spark when Hank came in as well. One other thing, the commentators for this game mentioned on 3 different occasions that Freeze said Payton Thorne will be the starter next year. Freeze also seemed to hint very strongly at that on his ESD presser. Then in postgame this evening he said the QB competition will be open in spring. It sounds like he may be waffling on QB1 for next season but who knows? If I'm guessing, I think Freeze knows he is going with Thorne as QB1. Lord help us all.
  10. This is the first time since 1975, 76 and 77 that we've had 3 losing seasons in a row. This is the first time since Bear Bryant was at Alabama that we've lost 4 years in a row to Alabama. Of the 16 SEC teams, only Auburn and Vanderbilt haven't won atleast 8 games in a season since 2019. We are the only SEC West team to not win atleast 9 games in a season since 2019. We've lost 4 or more games in a row for 3 straight years. Hell, we lost 4 games in a row earlier this season and have now lost 3 in a row to end the season. Besides high school recruiting, what has Hugh Freeze shown you all that says he will bring Auburn out of this funk that our program has been in for years now? For every good win he has in his career, he also has an absolute WTF type stinker of a game and sometimes a few of those in a single season. His high school recruiting is great. So was Chizik and Malzahn's. I'm tired of watching us look stupid while Georgia, Alabama and hell, even Ole Miss is getting it right.
  11. But we sure hold bowl game losses against Gus. He would lose to Minnesota in a bowl game and fans act like it was a National Title game. Same when Harsin lost to Houston with our backup QB. Now Hugh gets absolutely embarrassed and the Bowl games aren't important now. If we gonna hold bowl game losses against past coaches then we gonna hold this terrible performance against Hugh as well.
  12. I admit, Brown looked good. Alot better than Thorne tbh. One has started in Big10 and SEC for 3 years and looked bad. One hasn't thrown a college pass until today and looked poised and he has zip on his passes.
  13. I'm calling it now; all offseason we will have to hear how Hank Brown should be the starter and savior because of 1 good pass.
  14. I've said all along that Hugh is a really good high school recruiter but his Gameday product is a rollercoaster ride of knocking off Alabama and Georgia while at Ole Miss, nearly knocking off Alabama and Georgia with an average Auburn team this year but get blown out when you're 3 TD favorites and getting blown out when you're the favorite today and all the experts on TV says you have a substantial talent advantage over Maryland. It truly worries me how he can't get his teams up for certain games and it's been every single year of his career. I love his recruiting but his Gameday coaching/preparation leaves alot to be desired. I'm hoping it changes but 11 years is a pattern.
  15. It's the Gus Malzahn Curse. He had 8 winning seasons and since he's been gone we've had losing seasons all 3 years. I'm joking but damn what have we gotta do just to have a winning year now?
  16. After watching this football team, I swear if our basketball team goes out tonight and shoots 3-24 from 3 and 40% from the line, I may kick a hole in my TV.
  17. If you're waiting on us to land game changers in the portal then I hate to tell ya but it ain't happening. Hugh is very good in HS recruiting but he's struggling in the portal so far this season and he even admits it
  18. Imagine if Taulia Tagovailoa had played today. It would've been even worse.
  19. I'll say this, after watching nearly every Bowl game this year, our offense is boring as hell this year. It looks lethargic and outdated.
  20. And Ole Miss is blowing out Penn State so Kiffin has gotten them to 11 wins for the first time ever. Today just sucks
  21. When is our last 3 losing seasons in a row? 1950's? If we lose today, this is 3 losing seasons in a row.
  22. It's starting to look like everybody keeps their job. I'm pretty shocked that Montgomery is still on staff. Figured if anybody was let go, it would've happened by now. I still think Hugh calls plays next year though. If Hugh does call plays then that's alot of money spent on an OC to just gameplan during the week.
  23. He has said that he has wanted to coach ever since he retired from playing but he didn't really care for all the hours that coaches have to put in. Deion announced about a month ago that Sapp would be on his coaching staff next season but Sapp has to get his degree first before being on staff. I believe he is currently taking classes to get his degree. But no, he hasn't ever coached to my knowledge.
  24. Zac Etheridge and Crime Dog should be on that list too.
  25. Warren Sapp is being hired to Deion's coaching staff at Colorado. I wonder if Charles Kelly moving on has anything to do with that?
