I'm really hoping to get to 6 or 7 wins, but I think that's going to be more difficult than most expect.

Anyone know if we've talked to Wesley Yates? I believe he had us second last year and is in the portal.
-
I am surprised that we haven't heard Wesley Yates name since he's in the portal? We were so high on him as a HS recruit last year. I know that he got hurt and didn't play much for UW, but perhaps he could be a combo guard that could play the 1 or 2 or just a knock down shooter to play with Pettiford.

Do we have any interest in Tony Mitchell (DB from Thompson who just hit the portal from bama)?

Just some quick thoughts by position.
QB | I am surprised no one has transferred out yet. If no one leaves we won't add anyone here.
RB | Surprisingly we look to be holding on to what we have.
WR | I still expect two more receivers to hit the portal and we want to add at least one more from the portal. Though I haven't seen any buzz recently.
TE | No active need here.
OL | The Tigers would add the right interior lineman if they saw a fit but currently aren't high on any portal prospects.
DL | Auburn has likely filled this need at this time
LB | We would like to add one more on the interior. South Alabama's Khalil Jacobs just visited on the 30th and has received an offer.
DB | San Jose State corner, Jayvion Cole, had three interceptions last year and is scheduled to visit May 6th.
Was just taking a quick look at 247's top uncommitted WR's in the portal and a few names ring a bell. Any intel on us talking with Karmello? Is he friends with Cam Coleman? Or what about Badger?

Steiner leaving is honestly for the better on both sides. For someone who scored so insanely high on his physical measurements he has looked so slow and awful at Auburn. I think maybe his brain and body just don’t process at the same time. Instincts are hard for overly cerebral players. This is a good sign regarding the freshmen linebackers we brought in early.
Scott was practically processed. The staff didn’t plan on taking DBs in the portal but some better names have emerged than expected. Additionally some young guys are coming on really strong.
Hood stings a little but not as much as some might think. Keionte Scott, Kayin Lee, Champ Anthony, Jay Crawford, and Jerrin Thomson are all ahead of him for me. I’d like to see Auburn get longer at corner too instead of 5’11” I’d love to see more rangey 6’2” guys. Makes a difference.
Looks like Scott got unprocessed! Here's hoping to improves and does some good things on the field this year because it seems like he has a lot of the tools we're looking for.

Getting Lambert doesn't in and of itself transform the team, but it adds quality experience to the WR corps to go along with the influx of talented freshmen we signed. Combined with the other additions to the team, I don't think it's unfair to say the unit has been transformed. How many new starters will we have? How many additions to the 2-deep?
The question is whether the transformation is a healthy one. I refuse to enter this season with my expectations set at a 7-win year because I do think we'll be better than that.
But apparently it's a bad thing for me, a moderator, to lead a conversation suggesting that getting Lambert completes (or at least furthers) a transformation of the team we had last year. Heaven forbid that we think a better roster should lead to better results and try to encourage Auburn fans to be positive about the coming season...me too. I think we have a real chance for 8 wins.

Honest question, how are we going to get the ball to all these guys? 😳
Honest Answer: Likely Peyton Thorne.
No for real, it seems like a lot. But it feels like a good problem given our history. And I'm sure that its common for the "WR U's" to be stacked like this and have high level talent that doesn't see a lot of time as a freshmen.
On that note, who knows how often Cain and Simmons will see the field this year and there was a suggestion earlier in this thread that there could be 1-2 more transfers out. Not sure if that's still likely though or not.

With PG Pegues and SF Jahki Howard coming in from the portal to join Pettiford, I guess we are now just waiting to see what Broome decides to do. He needs to decide soon if we want to get another big.
Agreed, but it seems like there is no date in mind and that CBP doesn't want to push it too much publicly. Although I'm sure he feels the clock a ticking. ⏰

Hopefully, we’ll start seeing some portal activity soon! I expect a few guys to depart as they don’t see a path to significant playing time. And hopefully we’ll bring in some quality players to fill needs.
Anyone hearing anything yet???
The chatter all seems to be in this thread started today.

A little sad about this one I have liked him a lot since his high school recruitment. He does seem to be down the depth chart a bit though. The freshmen have been performing well.
Agreed. But that seems to be the spot that we recruit best.
Way less certain about the Offense. Think we'll lose anymore WRs, OL or QBs?

I'd be bummed if Cobb leaves. He's the best RB, IMO. His workload should increase this year, and next year he'll be the man.
Agreed. He seems to potentially have the highest ceiling of the group and is good as a check down option as well.

The plan appears to be fake it till you make it. Maybe Salter will reenter the portal because as much as I like Hank and White, they don't seem far enough along on the RPO game to run the offense like it needs to be run if Thorne is injured. And not sure that Salter isn't better than Thorne anyway.

Updated.
I expect Henderson to Penn State and Husan to Texas A&MWill need to reshuffle the deck at QB and RB
Not that bummed about Henderson and we'll see if that one sticks.
But would definitely be bummed about losing out on Longstreet. Getting a top QB in this class in the near term seems like it would help the coaches with building out the rest of the class. Sure, White Walker looks the part, but it seems imperative these days to get a decent QB in every class. And it appears that we've put most of our eggs in Longstreet and others committed elsewhere.

Well I can assure you that if basically every Auburn writer/analyst has mentioned that it’ll be some boost to the basketball program, the basketball coach has been pushing for Nike and former players have been rejoicing about the switch…it definitely helps
also anecdotally speaking, if you ever get a chance to walk around the campus at the same time as some of the players do, the ones that aren’t wearing the free gear are going to be wearing Nike or Adidas, usually Nike. At least for basketball and often football.
Other than NIL having absolutely nothing to do with the brands (Nike, Adidas, etc) that host certain camps and tournaments seemingly steering some of their guys to their schools, you want to at least feel like you don’t have a disadvantage in these marketing opportunities with recruits. UA is a disadv, with most. May not be a loud one, may even be a net neutral with some. But if all other things are equal, and Alabama has some kid dressed in Kobe’s or LeBrons, and we have them dressed in shoes that, my bias aside, are simply not as popular, it’s not an advantage, at the very least
If there’s anything I said here that could use more explaining, just let me know

Our NIL for basketball won't come near what Ky can offer. We cannot lure any of those guys.
The swoosh makes me think differently. Sure UK's donors will always prioritize bball over football while ours are likely vice versa, but I think Bruce lands at least one of the following over the likes of UK.

in that case, here's my prediction for our final class of 25 assuming OTV is loaded and can come through:
*Note: I have no intel on these particular players, so it's just a wish list. Would love to hear some commentary from our insiders. @Zeek? @bigbird? @ellitor?
Quarterback (Need 1 HS and 1 Transfer)
Running Back (Need 2)
Wide Receiver (Need 3-5)
Tight End (Need 2)
Offensive Line (5-6 HS)
This class ends up being the foundation for an ongoing improved O-line under Freeze that will be talked about for the next decade.
Defensive Line & Edge (Need 3-5)
Linebacker (Need 2-3)
Defensive Back (Need 3-6)
