Here are some Auburn QB ratings during their first start against a quality opponent...

131.20        Campbell Ole 01 / 15-19-1-142yds-0td

118.62        White Ole 90 / 16-31-0-208yds-1td

112.11        Cox GT 05 / 22-44-4-342yds-2tds

109.68        Sullivan UT 69 / 12-24-5-211yds-2tds

91.79        Craig UAB 96 / 18-32-2-183yds-0td

87.74        Slack UK 88 / 13-25-2-154yds-0td

85.06        Leard UV 98 / 11-25-1-146yds-0td

74.16        Burger UT 86 / 6-15-0-61yds-0td

66.36        Nix Ole 94 / 7-20-2-83yds-1td

*Reggie Slack actually made his first start against MSU in 1987 because Burger was suspended for the game. He made his first start as the "starter" in 1988.

Looks like an avg of close to 2 INTS per First start...Shocking! BC didnt do that bad actually until late in the game INTS. 342 yds is awesome.

THE KILLER STAT FOR US WAS THE 50+ RUSHING YARDS. Spurrier was only about .500 with less than 100 yards rushing.

Questions remains, Where was our Ol and where was the DL?

I can't believe anyone would seriously put much (if any) of the blame on Cox. First, the coaches said they didn't want to try and make him win the game for us, but then he had too.

He made some bad reads sure but this was his first game and that is to be expected (especially when they are dropping seven and eight as they did in those last ints).

Maybe i am blind but I am actually excited about Cox. He made 10-12 great throws. Once he settled down he was very accurate. The knock against Campbell for years was that he constantly settled for short plays... he would never challenge the defense down the field. By the time he left he knew when to take it deep. That was Campbell's nature, safe, consistent. He became vey smart knowing when to take a chance downfield.

Cox is the opposite it would seem from last night (maybe it was because he was forced to be). He isn't a shy gunslinger. I remember hearing about a lack of arm strength? That is crazy! I know he threw the ball almost 70 yards on one play (standing on our 30, correct me if I am wrong) and he constantly put the ball in tight spots with some laser precision. And i love that quick release. It is one of the quickest I have seen out of a young player.

So, are you keeping a record:

Arm Strength? Check!

Accuracy? Check!

Release? like the twinkling of an eye!

Leadership? Composed yet still firey!

Passing Vision? Nothing worse than most first time starters.

And it wasn't his first game, but Stan White threw 4 interceptions against Ole Miss in 1992.

Cox impressed me. He threw down the field, made throws that put receivers in positions to make big plays and spread it around. He can be a great one if he stays healthy. He needs run support so that he gets less pressure and can keep the D honest.
