I hear that these two might have been hired to monitor other sports programs as well.

Hill, McGlynn Join Auburn Athletics Department Staff

Bernard Hill and Rich McGlynn join the Auburn Athletics Department.

true. The AU Athletic site has the following announcement on it tonight about AU hiring two new Associate Athletic Directors for Compliance. One of them, Rich McGlynn is leaving the NCAA staff for one of the positions. It is very reasonable that he was the guy with the blazer spotted at lunch with the AU President and Athletic Director. That ought to make Spuat's day. Here is the story.

June 27, 2006

AUBURN, Ala. - Bernard Hill and Rich McGlynn have joined the Auburn Athletics Department as Associate Athletic Directors for Compliance announced Athletic Director Jay Jacobs Tuesday.

"We're very excited about the addition of Bernard and Rich to our staff," Jacobs said. "Each brings a skill set that will be invaluable to our compliance efforts. We take compliance of NCAA and SEC rules very seriously and both individuals have a wealth of experience that will help Auburn regulate and follow those rules."

Hill, who earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Auburn, most recently served as an Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at Stetson University in DeLand, Fla., since 2001.

At Auburn, Hill received a Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Promotions in 1997 and a Master of Education in Administration of Higher Education in 2000. Hill was a compliance assistant and event management intern at Auburn from 1997-2001. A native of Roanoke, Ala., Hill was a member of the Auburn football team and also coached high school football at Handley High School in Roanoke.

McGlynn comes to Auburn from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) where he was employed since 2001. Most recently, McGlynn served as the Associate Director of Membership Services. He previously was an Assistant Director of Membership Services and a Student-Athlete Reinstatement Representative within the Enforcement Services arm of the NCAA.

Prior to his work at the NCAA, McGlynn was the Commissioner of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference from 2000-01 and was a legal specialist for the New Jersey General Assembly Majority Office (2000-01) and Office of Counsel to the Governor of the State of New Jersey (1999-00).

A native of Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., McGlynn graduated from Florida Southern in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and received his Juris Doctorate from the Seton Hall University School of Law in 1999.

In this case, message boards were spot-on, insisting in many cases that he was gone due to family problems three or four days before the major media got a hold of it. In other cases, though, message board communities can run 180 degrees in the wrong direction with a story with amazing consistency with existing fan beliefs. This tendency warps even further when the story has to do with a rival school.

For instance (clearing throat, assuming creepy movie guy voice here) :

Did you know that a NCAA official visited Auburn recently? Hmm…whaddya think THAT means, huh? COULD BE A VERY INTERESTING SUMMER IN ALABAMA ha ha ha ha…

Bama boards went–and are going–nuts with insinuation, innuendo, scuttlebutt and calumny about Auburn. This is nothing new, since football slander is in fact the third largest export of the state of Alabama (#2, Automotives, #1 Alabama Freshman OL Andre “The 8th Continent” Smith, who will be 7 feet tall and 420 rock-solid pounds by the time he graduates.) Never mind that the NCAA official in question is Rich McGlynn, an Auburn grad who was brought on to work in the compliance department.

A dream job for an Auburn grad with intimate knowledge of the NCAA’s byzantine regulations governing football? Nope–a Bobby Lowder conspiracy to co-opt the NCAA’s men by buying them off, that’s what that is. Keep in mind that we’re not saying we don’t think there are Auburn boosters holding black masses and selling cases of AK-47s to janjaweed in Darfur to fund illicit activities–we would totally believe that about the strange, successful, and always shifty bunch of people who call themselves football boosters–but in this case blame Human Resources for selecting the perfect candidate for his dream job, not the Don of Opelika’s endless, sinister machinations.

Nice to have employees with "friends" in high places. Maybe they can give some of their previous co-workers a call from time to time and let 'em know what is going on in the SEC...on a regular basis. :big::au::cheer:

I just took my first trip to TI and that board is pathetic. Not just for the Turds that post there but the whole set up and quality. I know a 5 year old that could do a better job than that! It's no better than those boards on al.com.

I need to get a bath now. The TI fungus has gotten on me. Anyone know how to get rid of it? I'll probably have to burn my clothes won't I?
