Big 11 To add a team

The crown jewel would be Notre Dame. National fanbase. Natural instate rivalries with Indiana and Purdue. Continuity of current rivalries with Michigan and Michigan State. But will ND ever see the writing on the wall and that this NBC arrangement can't last forever? If they shun the Big Ten again and they instead grab Pitt, then ND is left with only the Big East as a choice down the road which is not an attractive option. And I believe the day is coming when even ND will have to be in a conference.

After that, Pitt is the most logical choice. Renewal of fierce instate rivalry with Penn State and makes sense geographically. Strong basketball program as well.

The choices drop off significantly after that. Missouri makes no sense. Louisville and Cincy lack prestige. Syracuse is an outlier geographically. Iowa State bring Iowa's instate rival into the fold but wouldn't excite anyone.

They aren't necessarily adding a 12th team for sure. They are just getting together to discuss the idea. If they did, they would most absolutely have to change their conference name, no? I mean the 11 snuck by. But to go to 12?

Maybe they go after Pitt and Paterno retires since he doesn't want to play them.

It would be interesting to see if Notre Dame would want to go into a conference. The Big 11 would be a good fit. Pitt would also be interesting. What about Cincy?

Who do you think they would add?

Wait till 3 or debate now

Notre Dame

Pittsburgh

Missouri

I don't see Mizzou leaving the Big 12.

True they won't do anything for a year or two but I think they have their top 5, and if Joe Pa has his way ND won't get another offer "They had their chance"

As far as naming who cares

I have always been curious why Iowa St was in the Big 12 and not the Big 10.

Notre Dame would be the perfect fit but they are too selfish to join a conference. They want all of the money for themselves.

Would they have to change their name? There's already a "Big-12" conference. But I suppose being the "Big-10" with twelve teams is no more ridiculous than being a "Big-10" with eleven teams.

A technical question:

Does the NCAA REQUIRE a 12-team conference to have a championship game, or merely ALLOW it?

Selfish or smart? If you're earning an above average income for your field of work, would you willingly take an unnecessary pay cut?

Snobby is the right word. Vanderbilt makes more TV money than Notre Dame. Actually, Vanderbilt makes $8 million more per year from TV than Notre Dame.

Notre Dame gets to keep their entire bowl payout, but unless they go to a BCS bowl they will get less than those that are in a conference.

Irish to Big Ten: 'Don't even bother'

Posted by John Taylor on December 17, 2009 7:46 PM ET

If the Big Ten had their druthers, Notre Dame would come busting through their office doors packing a bouquet of roses in one hand and a ring in the other, drop to one knee, and promise their undying and eternal conference love.

If the Irish had their druthers, they'd hope for the Midwest harlot to leave them alone and stop drunk sexting them at 2:30 in the morning. :roflol:

At least, that's the way it comes off as Notre Dame, a couple of days after the Big Ten announced it would once again take a look at expansion, has issued a statement once again pledging their allegiance to the flag of independence.

The Big Ten was left at the altar in 1999 by the Irish, but that likely won't sway the powers-that-be this time around as it's widely believed the conference will make another run at the South Bend school. Based on the above-mentioned statement, the league might want to consider doing something a little more constructive with the time they would spend chasing the Irish. Like voluntarily ramming their head into a brick wall. Repeatedly.

"Our strong preference is to remain the way we are," athletic director Jack Swarbrick said in a release from the university. "Independence is a big part of the tradition of the program and our identity. We'd sure like to try to maintain it.

"All of this has a lot more to do with our priorities than it does with business issues. Our independence is tied up in a lot of the rivalries we have. We play Navy every year and have the tradition of USC weekends. Frankly, it works pretty well to play USC in October at home and in November at their place.

"The question that any school faces, not just Notre Dame, is: Does this start the dominoes falling again, like the last round of reconfiguration? It's less about our willingness to enter into discussions than what happens to the industry. What are the implications?"

Sooo, you're saying there's a chance?

Might wanna get Navy off the schedule, Jack. They've now tapped it more than once.
