Jacksonville State suspends HR leader for tournament

Recommended Posts

JACKSONVILLE - Jacksonville State will go into its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006 without one of its biggest bats.

Gamecocks coach Jim Case confirmed Wednesday sophomore third baseman Sam Eberle has been suspended for undisclosed disciplinary reasons.

"He will not play in this tournament," Case said.

Eberle was only hitting .277, but he was leading the team with 16 home runs. He also had 16 doubles and 60 RBIs - both ranked second on the team.

Case was not immediately certain who would take Eberle's place in the lineup.

"It's an opportunity is what it is," Case said. "It's an opportunity for somebody else."
