  1. He's just not an SEC caliber WR. I think he struggled with learning his assignments and what he was supposed to do, but he's not physically talented enough to make up for that.
  2. All scholarships are one year deals. If the new coach decides that he doesn't want these guys, then it's tough sledding for them unfortunately. Calzada already tried to stay here and then ended up in the portal anyway. Same thing happened to Capers who entered the portal, announced he was exiting the portal once Freeze was hired, and then ended up back in the portal anyway. What happened there is that these guys were approached by the new staff and basically encouraged to leave.
  3. Why would Auburn be stuck with them? Their scholarships simply wouldn't be extended for next season. Neither guy has a spot here lol.
  4. LSU had him at 6'2 222 https://lsusports.net/sports/fb/roster/player/demario-tolan/

LMAO. My guy, they play 2-3 teams per year that should be able to compete with them. The fact that they are losing 4-5 games per year is not good, regardless of him EASILY being able to get into their conference championship game. Stop embarrassing yourself. He is the definition of an average coach, and he is proving to be average against garbage-tier competition. It's going to get a hell of a lot harder for him once they join the Big 12.
  6. That's good to be optimistic I guess. Hugh Freeze isn't going to operate under the assumption that the 3rd/4th string QB who has never shown to be accurate was in fact only inaccurate last year because he had a shoulder injury.
  7. This narrative makes zero sense, but okay lol. If TJ was Harsin's guy, why did he bring in Calzada to replace him? Ashford was also brought in by Harsin lol. It's a cute narrative. You know what's more likely? The guy who completed just 49% of his passes was equally wild and erratic all camp as well lol. This has been confirmed by anyone and everyone who saw any practices.
  8. He was horribly inaccurate in HS too. That's why he ended up at Oregon and not at an SEC school. Also, do you ever wonder why he was sitting behind 3 QB's at Oregon, and then couldn't beat out TJ Finley (who stinks) here and needed Calzada to be be hurt to get onto the field? He has size and well above average athleticism. If he had accuracy, he wouldn't have been 3rd/4th string at two different P5 schools. It seems like you just want to see what you want to see. For example, if you followed the QB competition at all during the fall, his inaccuracy and tendency to make mistakes was constantly talked about. And this was well before whatever injuries he suffered. At no point in time has he proven to actually be accurate.
  9. This is a silly question and some of you really need to come back down to earth on Ashford. Here is your reality: Sanders is a 4-year P5 starter who has actually completed passes at a ~62-63% rate prior to this past season. 2022 was actually the "outlier" for him, and even then, his "bad" season resulted in an ~8% higher completion percentage than Ashford's woefully bad 49% completion percentage this past season. Robby Ashford is a third year player who was running 4th string at Oregon before he transferred to Auburn. At Auburn, he was a 3rd string player behind two very average QB's in TJ Finley and Zach Calzada. He could not beat out TJ Finley for the starting job out of fall camp, and don't forget that Calzada suffered a freak non-football injury to his shoulder which is the only reason why Ashford was able to play in the first place. Calzada himself is a QB who came here because he could not beat out a woefully average Haynes King at Texas A&M. So you are essentially asking whether or not a guy who hasn't been able to win a legitimate QB competition at two schools and has spent his entire career as a 3rd/4th stringer is "as good" as a multi-year P5 starter at a Top 25 program. When Ashford did get to play this season, the results line up with why he was where he was on the depth chart at Oregon, and why he couldn't even unseat TJ Finley here: 49% completion, as many INT's as he had passing TD's, and this one is less obvious: he was actually among the national leaders in fumbles this past season with something like 8 or 9. He is highly inaccurate and VERY turnover prone. That is the worst combo you can have at QB. Spencer Sanders is turnover prone himself and is far from perfect, but he is absolutely an upgrade on Ashford and actually has some track record of success. What did we do offensively once Harsin was let go? They basically warped the offense back in time and started running a throwback 1950's/1060's offense that utilized Ashford as essentially a 3rd RB. Look at his stats with Carnell as the interim: he had nearly as many rushing attempts as he did passing attempts. They did this because he was woefully inefficient throwing the football, and thus the only chance we had to compete offensively was to play a throwback run-dominant offense. This is NOT a good implication for Ashford's ability as an actual QB, and it obviously correlated with Freeze's pursuit of high-end transfer portal starters. Too much is made of the supposed lack of offensive system for Ashford and now his injury, when you need to simply look at where he was on the actual depth chart at two different P5 schools and the glaring flaws he showed as the starter this past season. He plays hard and is very athletic, but he is SO far behind in terms of actual ability to play the QB position. These are actually flaws that he showed back in HS as well; hence why he had to go to Oregon. He is an athlete trying to play QB, and if you actually evaluate intently, pretty much all of his actual positive plays from this past season came on broken plays wherein he was able to do something with his legs enough for a pass to open for him. You can't rely on that type of QB play to compete in this league, or really anywhere at the P5 level.
  10. Why would the analytics thing be humorous? This analytics firm was instrumental in staffing at Oregon State and Tulane. Oregon State was 10-3 this season and Tulane was 11-2. Neither of those two schools are historically easy to win at (Tulane in particular is generally very bad at football) and the success that they just had is pretty unprecedented. The same analytics firms basically nailed our 2022 season to a tee. I listened to a lot of Dave Bartoo commentary: the man predicted exactly how much we'd suck. He even predicted that Harsin would be fired midseason and that Freeze would be hired. This reeks of glossing over something that you have zero actual understanding of and then claiming that it's silly.
  11. I can tell you with 100% certainty that any receiver who has been recruited and signed to play for an SEC school has been "taught" how to catch the ball. This commentary grinds my gears so hard. There is no magical coaching technique to catching the football that only the "best" WR coaches know lmao.
  12. These two things are completely unrelated. You need a HS QB in every class. We are down to 2 QB's on the roster. Hank Brown is a kid that Freeze already has a relationship with and likes, and he came too late to do any real HS QB recruiting here. Nobody is saying or arguing that this type of QB recruiting is what we are banking on in order to be successful in the future. Freeze is still recruiting and plans to take a Transfer QB. Again, these are unrelated and taking the HS QB has nothing to do with them "missing" on Leary or any other Transfer.
  13. The only two coaches who had been officially announced by the school were the OC and DC. All of these other guys had been hired and were out working but were not announced formally. Even Cadillac. The only "announcement" on Cadillac came from him himself on Twitter, but not the school. It means nothing. They were busy recruiting and it's obvious that Freeze wanted to wait till after signing day to start to start formally announcing the staff all together.
  14. Guys, the WR coach is expected to be Jacob Peeler from Missouri. Should be announced fairly soon. No idea why this thread title hasn't been updated yet.
  15. He wasn't a priority at all. Carnell offered him before a HC was even hired. Freeze just came in and brought his own 3* HS QB. They offered Jenkins an offer to come as a preferred walk on.
  16. This. The idea that Bama had no idea what was going on until last night when predictions came in and then that gave them the opportunity to "up their offer" is incredibly silly. This has been a known possibility for 10+ days now when Mitchell came in for a visit and we pretended like he wasn't here. C'mon guys, Bama knows what is going on within this state. The reality of this kid is that he's told multiple schools he was coming. There was talk the entire year that A&M could flip him with NIL until their season imploded. This is your typical yearly Bama plant of a kid that pretends like he's not going to Bama at the last minute and then magically changes his mind. It's a game at this point.
  17. He had more than twice as many yards as Shenker did this past season and had more TD's than Shenker had in 5 seasons at Auburn, and Shenker is gone. Take a look at the receiving numbers for the guys actually still left in the TE room. He is better than Shenker and has upside to boot.
  18. Maybe don't take everything written randomly on the internet as fact? He is a TE and will play TE (or what amounts to a TE type position in Freeze's offense). He is not being recruited to play WR. He is 6'5 and ~250 pounds. You should be excited because he is very athletic and unlike the guys we currently have on roster, he has actually produced some results on the field.
  19. But yes, how dare Auburn prioritize hiring a proven HC for it's HC position. The fact that they didn't hire Joe Whitt Jr. (a DB's coach) or Cadillac Williams (a RB's coach) proves that this is a racist institution.
  20. Brian Johnson was interviewed for this job and it was a legitimate interview. So actually, you are lying. But I can tell already that you are going to conveniently brush past the fact that a black man was interviewed by attempting to argue semantics ("it wasn't a legitimate interview"). You are a good little race baiter. But you see, I'm too smart to fall for your feeble attempts here.
  21. What a s*** thread. You conveniently left out that Brian Johnson, a black POSITION COACH was interviewed and even named as a candidate in this search. Do you know how many white non-current HC's were candidates to the point of actually being "named"? ZERO. So what point are you trying to make? Jeff Grimes got less play thaN Brian Johnson did. Muhh racism!
  22. Chadwell has very little interest in doing what it takes to compete in the SEC. For example, he has been very adamant about carrying his entire staff with him in the past. That would be a repeat of what you just saw with Harsin. The fact that you have boiled down having an "NIL warchest" as if it automatically makes a HC successful in this conference just sullies your entire position in this discussion. Cignetti? Really? The 60+ year old with zero big-school HC'ing experience? What could go wrong? From James Madison to the SEC lmao.
  23. These are kids and they are silo'd into the program. With all due respect, they really don't know any better and their opinion means very little. Most of these guys also went to war for Bryan Harsin. Are we going to forget that Derick Hall, one of our best players who is known for being a great kid, smart, hard working, etc. couldn't stop backing Harsin? In fact, most of the revered Senior guys on this roster were big Harsin believers - aren't these the guys you would expect to have a better gauge than anyone else on the roster? The players will support whatever feels good. Right now, the Cadillac thing feels good. I can also tell you that LSU's players drove Orgeron into the HC position. Prior to that, their players also CARRIED Les Miles off the field in an attempt to show that they wanted him to remain the HC. This is all very typical and happens every single time. With all due respect, it's noise that means nothing in an actual decision making scenario.
  24. How could you not give him a shot? Simple, the idea that you're going to make a decision on ~4+ seasons worth of Auburn football in the most critical period in decades (with Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC) based off of the outcome of ONE football game is what one would call: DUMB, ILLOGICAL, FOOLISH, DANGEROUS, ETC. What about this is confusing, really? He beats Bama so therefore you gotta hire him? Excuse me? Bryan Harsin nearly beat Bama last season. Maybe we should call him back? Do you understand that FLUKES happen? You are literally wasting your time. I can bet you any amount of money that that outcome of the Bama game is not one of Cohen's "58 decision points" that he has written down. In fact, don't be surprised if the hire is leaked a day BEFORE the Iron Bowl. Just so we don't need to get into this entire stupid game wherein if we somehow win, it somehow means that Cadillac is the guy. It ain't happening.
  25. Lane Kiffin beat #4 Oregon (team that finished with 12 wins) in 2011 - knocking Oregon out of title contention. Big games are normally only winnable when the talent is comparable.
