  1. And the move of the games to Monday makes it real interesting. The OU vs JMU outcome didn't surprise me, but the Bammer vs FSU outcome did. Bammer looked flat on offense and defense. I didn't think JMU could beat the Sooners 2 in a row. Now all 4 teams have a chance to rest overnight. The FSU SS seemed to tweak an old knee injury, so it will be interesting to see how she is after she's cooled down and it had time to stiffen up. FSU plays tough with their backs to the wall like they did when they won it all a few years ago, so it will be interesting to see if Fouts can continue her dominance. Let's hope there's no more rain.
  2. Normally I agree, but for some strange reason, I don't feel that way about softball. Anyway, it's going to be hard to beat Bammer as long as Fouts is chunking Perfecto's. It's hard to score when you don't get anyone on base. I have to imagine UCLA has never had a perfect game thrown against them.
  3. First unseeded team to win their first 2 games in the WCWS and she's 1 win away from having her team in the Championship Series. She has a team that's gritty and has a "us against the world mentality". They're playing sound fundamental softball on the biggest stage. Yeah I would agree.
  4. I believe I just witnessed the gutsiest performance by a pitcher I have ever seen. Kudos to JMU and Odicci Alexander. She refused to lose. What a game.
  5. UCLA left their Number 2 pitcher at home with some type of injury. We'll see if Fouts can hold up.
  6. Can 1 player make the difference in 2 teams post season fortunes? Let's see, 1 team hosts a regional and loses to 2 unseeded teams and is eliminated. Another team wins its regional and super regional and advances to the WCWS. Tennessee lost pitcher Caylan Arnold and really missed her as a number 2 pitcher. She transferred to FSU where she pitched game 2 of the super regional and got the win against LSU to help her team advance to the WCWS. Interesting?
  7. I also failed to mention one offensive category where we were number 1. CAUGHT STEALING.
  8. We lost 10 games by 1 run. We were 1-3 against Kennesaw St and Chattanooga and in the 3 loses we were shut out all 3 games. We finished next to last in the SEC standings and finished the season with a 4 game losing streak. We were last in the conference in: Batting avg Slugging pct On base pct Runs scored Hits Runs batted in Doubles Home runs Total Bases Total plate appearances Walks Hit by pitch We won 1 SEC series and were swept by Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee. Can't imagine why there would be any negativity toward our softball coach.
  9. Absolutely. Pitching, defense and timely hitting along with productive upperclassmen. LSU and Mizzou are sitting at home because of breakdowns. Arky's bats went cold and their defense broke under pressure along with running into the buzz saw of Arizona. Mike Candreas has been there so many times. He knows how to prepare a team. When they came here for the Super Regional, I was impressed how smoothly their infielders fielded balls and threw to first. Seemed everything was one motion. Can't believe UGA went to Gainesville and thumped UF. Should be a great WCWS. The question is who meets OU in the finals. They are just so strong and their bracket looks to be a little weaker with JMU, UGA and Okie State. The other bracket is Alabama, Arizona and UCLA with FSU the dark horse. Should be good. My favorite time of the sports year.
  10. That guy drives me crazy. Most of the time he sits a little down the first base side, but for the SR, he was right behind the plate. Always shouting and being a typical corndog. Well JMU has punched their ticket to OKC. Congrats to the Dukes. Maybe AD Greene could pick up the phone and work a coach trade with the JMU AD.
  11. It's so ironic that Dean's former team is going to a Super Regional while we couldn't win a game.
  12. After reading where the team showered him with Silly String after his 600th win Sunday, I have to wonder just how bad the team morale is and the supposed mass transfer that's "about to happen". Doesn't add up.
  13. The next two series are important to our seeding in the SEC tournament. The bottom 2 teams play a play-in game the first night. Right now those 2 teams are USCe and MSU and we are 3 games ahead of USCe. Our next 2 series are UTk which is our last home series and LSU. These 2 teams are 7th and 6th respectively in the conference standings. USCe closes with MSU which has won 1 SEC game and UK. USCe has an easier schedule, but I think if we can win 1 game in each of these series, we can avoid the play-in game. If we get swept both weekends, It will be tough.
  14. Here's an interesting stat. Auburn boasts the sixth toughest schedule in the country, according to the NCAA. The Tigers' opponents hold a combined .657 win percentage and 1,001 total wins. We have a RPI in the top 10. Something everyone might consider with our young team.
  15. That many games in a week, there was probably a weekend tournament involved. No telling what classes the teams were from. It depends on where the tournament was and It's reputation. Established tournaments attract better teams.
  16. Congrats to Ms. Lisenby. Looking forward to her getting on the Plains.
  17. That is very surprising after the way they played Bammer. If we can generate any offense, I like our chances with Shelby on Friday and Sunday.
  18. While the underhand motion is more natural than the overhand pitching motion of baseball, you can still have issues especially with the rotator cuff. That's an interesting account of Barnhill and her pitch counts at UF. Her pitch counts went up up every year. There's a lot of difference between the physical maturity of a college freshman opposed to a college senior. My fear is these freshman pitchers get worn out too quickly. My daughter led the state in innings pitched her freshman year in JC with 277 innings. About two thirds of the way through the season, she started having issues with her rotator cuff, but didn't tell us. When the season ended she had to have surgery and was never the same. Obviously she didn't access to the quality of care in JC compared to Auburn, but there is a risk with overuse.
  19. I can understand and I agree. Right now, Dean is using 3 pitchers and that concerns me. The SEC season is a grind and he runs the risk of letting our 2 best pitchers get arm weary before the season really gets going.
  20. Just checked our schedule and the game with Troy on Wednesday will be on ESPN+ at 6:00.
  21. Yes it is. It's a quicker game in several ways which makes it fun to watch. It can also be fun to watch when your team has a dominating pitcher and we have 2 that will be just that very soon. Maybe not so much this year in SEC play, but soon. Much like basketball junkies love March Madness, I love May and June madness, with all the regional tournaments and the WCWS. Defense like this makes it exciting as well.
  22. I agree with most the posters in this thread. I can see Penta as the Friday starter and Lowe on Saturday in a regular 3 game series. Sunday may be a committee approach right now until Yarbrough can get settled. I hope CMD doesn't over use Penta early in the season. Handley and Dismukes have been very effective as relievers. Lowe has tended to give up base hits (11 in 9 innings), but she pitches out of jams very well (.75 ERA). Penta has a pesky habit of giving up walks (10 in 19 innings), but she also has 22 strikeouts. Aspyn Godwin has been LIGHTS OUT. A .500 BA and 5 of her 7 hits are are extra base hits with 3 HR? WOW!! With the come back effort Sunday coming up just a little short, I think this team is going to be fun to watch.
  23. Looks like the Saturday games are back on the schedule of the UNF website. We play USCe Saturday morning at 8:45. I'm assuming that's Eastern time.
  24. W 100% agree. Case in point. When Alabama won the 2012 WCWS, Jackie Traina pitched every game in the WCWS and Alabama had 3 pitchers on the roster. In the final series, all 3 games were pitched by Traina and Keilani Ricketts. During the regular season, 3 or 4 pitchers are enough. It's nice to have a different starting pitcher for each game of an SEC series, but not absolute. The big thing is saving arms to be sharp during tournament time, but 5 top pitchers? There isn't a program in the country with that much depth.
