  1. Apparently, there are a couple of Appeals Court judges that want some of the spotlight for themselves. When dealing with people in the legal profession, that should never surprise anyone. The decision to hear the appeal is grounded either in that or a desire to expand on current precedent, which isn't their job. I dislike Fanni Willis as much as anyone, but the case is valid and the crimes are real. The fact that so many people have no problem placing one very flawed man's desire to maintain power ahead of our elected form of government is pathetic. The same people would have demanded that other Presidents be tried for treason for much less. https://georgiarecorder.com/2024/05/08/georgia-appeals-court-to-review-decision-allowing-da-willis-to-prosecute-trump-case/
  2. There were reasons other than age. All Trump had to do was to return the damn documents and work with the Archive as he is legally obligated to do and he would not have been charged. The only one with blinders on is the person that cannot see the difference in the cases. You might want to try laying off Hannity and Laura for a few days.
  3. The timing of the charges are the result, in large part, of when the accused committed the crimes. Nobody made Trump attempt to overturn the results of an election by scheming to replace valid electors with his hand picked slate. Likewise, nobody forced him to refuse to cooperate and return classified documents.
  4. You are suggesting that a kid stealing a 10 cent piece of gum has the same culpability as Bernie Madoff and his ponzi scheme.
  5. Nordstream 2 is not in use. Germany had frozen operation of the pipeline before it was damaged by pro Ukrainian groups. The U.S. and Germany have been on the same page, which is what you want with one of your strongest allies. It isn't our place to forbid anything. What evidence do you have that demonstrators can be deported? They can be arrested and charged with crimes, but you can't deport citizens or legal residents. Biden didn't indict Trump. Period.
  6. The vast majority are U.S. citizens. I don't agree with them either, but the problem is not something the federal government can solve by labeling them terrorists. I have seen no evidence that they are terrorists.
  7. The post is just wrong. You all wanted him to wait longer in Afghanistan. He had no move to make concerning Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Republicans stood in the way of aid, not the other way around. He also has no move when it comes to demonstrators. Some are legal and some are not, regardless, it isn't a federal issue. He could not have been more prompt when it comes to Israel after Oct 7th. He was praised in Israel at the time for his immediate reaction. He should have been more responsive with the border. There are things to criticize, but when you blame him for everything, people see it for what it is, nothing but political nonsense.
  8. She has that Russian sex worker look. I guess it fits.
  9. LOL... sure - it is all Biden's fault. Come on man....
  10. What do you think should be done? Would you shoot on sight? I dislike the misguided acts of some of these people as much as anyone, but this isn't Russia. People do have rights, even if you disagree with them.
  11. That isn't a deflection. That is a clear distinction. You want to excuse the behavior of Fox and others like OAN by claiming that they all do it. The truth is that they don't all do it to that scale and there is no comparison.
  12. And that has NOTHING to do with having the decision making ability to either bring this case or not. I'm pretty sure that you can find someone that worked in the Trump Justice Dept in the D.A.'s office as well.
  13. There is no example of any other major network admitting to purposefully lying to the American public like Fox.
  14. The scary thing is how many young people take their own lives every year due largely out of the fear of dealing with this very topic.
  15. LOL - she has no reason to think when others are there to tell her what believe in the first place.
  16. The problem is that culture war politics insists that the issue be political when it is inherently not. One would think, as Americans, the last thing any of us would want is government intrusion into who we sleep with or love. If freedom doesn't include that, what is so free about it? Unfortunately, we have a history that includes laws regulating all kinds of otherwise private conduct.
  17. This is a very accurate statement. Schools have greatly increased the number of classes that can be credited in high school by students taking advanced placement courses. Of course, those kids aren't usually the ones that would need a proficiency exam of some kind anyway.
  18. I do think it is important for people to realize that Bragg's decision to bring this case is not connected to the Justice dept in any way.
  19. One of the things that has to change is the way universities allocate spending. We don't have to look far to see the massive spending that has taken place building grand structures and replacing buildings that are perfectly operational with new buildings. Hundreds of millions are spent that have very little to do with education. It looks really nice, but that doesn't make it necessary. All over the world, institutions use buildings that are 100 to 200 years old and more, while we urgently replace 40 year old dorms and classroom buildings. There are other things eating at the core of higher education. Tenure often insulates ineffective or lazy professors. The race for rankings distorts admissions requirements in favor of standardized testing. I actually like some of the things that Texas does when it comes to admissions. Specifically, their requirements to accept students from every region of the state. It is really a complicated set of issues without one magic pill to fix it all..
  20. I honestly didn't realize there was more the first time I opened it up. That is what I get for reading and replying on my phone... lol Now that I have read the entire proposal, I'm not against it. What he is proposing is a sort of GED for basic education post high school diploma. I have always believed that the intangibles of a college degree are as important as the actual knowledge gained in most fields. I still believe that, but everyone's life experiences vary so greatly in a country of 350 million people that some gain those intangibles outside the campus atmosphere. Over the past 30 plus years, we have been moving farther and farther from general education and more toward focused or specialized education. From a young age, many are labeled as being better at science or the arts and thereafter their education is focused in those areas. Some burn out or simply grow in a different direction, but are then left without that well rounded base of knowledge. That is a different discussion altogether though...
  21. I don't think higher education has a hold on the job market. Companies are going to hire people for a couple of reasons. The first is potential and the second is a connection within the company. In general, they want the brightest with the most potential. Those applicants usually also seek out higher education. I am all for changing the way higher education works, but higher education is one of the things that the U.S. has gotten right historically. We give too much weight to standardized tests when it comes to admissions in higher education today. That has contributed to the race to be ranked highly, which has little to do with an institution's purpose.
  22. Stormy style? Making him hop up in that chair and rolling up a magazine to spank him with........ Not sure if I want to laugh or take a bath..
  23. I agree with everything you have said. I am not trying to parse words, but the entire issue comes down to your last sentence. For many, it isn't a choice. It is just who they are. I am not speaking of the trans issue or any of that. I am strictly talking about same sex attraction. When the only choices come down to living a lie or living alone, the choices aren't very realistic in the long term.
  24. I believe that we are in very good hands when it comes to hiring a softball coach. In my opinion, Dean was a good hire on paper and by popular opinion in the softball world. The fit just never seemed right. That happens. Having coached himself, I believe that Cohen will be able to filter through the intangibles that are so important, but that are difficult sometimes to see for most administrators.
  25. The problem is that most people don't actually have their own convictions. They simply recognize something as different and something that they don't understand and then use religious conviction as a cover for treating others as being lesser members of the community in which they live. If we were using religious convictions as a standard, then those same convictions would apply to any of a number of sins. Divorce, adultery, pre-marital sex and on and on. I have seen a family deal with the issue up close. A Southern Baptist preacher with an incredible family was faced with the fact that his son was gay and was getting married to another man. The conversations were hard and it took a little time, but, in the end, he and his wife admitted that they had suspected that their son was gay since he was a young child. They had prayed about it often, without even discussing it with each other. Their son and his husband now participate with everything the family does, just like the other children and their spouses. I can't imagine the family ever considering disowning their son, but some do and when that happens everyone loses.
