  1. Gotta give Gus best 1 year job after the disaster that was 2012.
  2. They aren't needed to solve a monetary problem. They are needed to pass an exemption to anti-trust laws, which would insulate college athletics from the threat of this preposterous type of legal action. They are the only entity that can do that. If MLB is worthy of an exemption, collegiate athletics certainly is as well. As for their inability to balance a check book, I totally agree.
  3. This is what American politics has come to in 2024......killin dogs who kill chickens and such....
  4. If this case was going to be brought, it should have been brought by the Justice Dept. The Justice Dept decided not to pursue the case. This isn't the first time that this type case has been brought. John Edwards went to trial and won. Trump has had sex with a list of women and then paid them to keep quiet. That isn't a secret. Trump's real exposure is not in this case, but in cases in Georgia and D.C.
  5. There has been a rise in viewership......
  6. It just really disgusts me that we are all watching the train wreck in slow motion. We are allowing the pendulum to swing so far in the opposite direction that recovering from the looming disaster may take decades, if possible at all. With the slightest economic downturn, we could very easily see athletic programs all across the country shut down and some bankrupt. People believe that we will always have more money, but we won't. Even a program like Auburn would be in real trouble if we suddenly lost 2 or 3 of the major donors to the collective. When a compensation plan is put in place, the schools will have to foot the bill. What is the first sport to get cut to free up funding? Something will have to go, unless we increase the university contribution and/or take on debt. People just don't think a couple steps ahead.
  7. Unfortunately, like many things, when the wheels really start coming off, they may act more urgently.
  8. I think Auburn has been more than fair and extremely patient.
  9. I have no doubt that they are working on it. These are the same people that have been leading us into this mess to begin with. The former athletes received a lot from the schools. They certainly are not owed some sort of windfall simply because they chose to play a sport in school. My point was that Congress needs to get off its desire to focus on nonsense and actually do something that is needed, like this exemption.
  10. How do almost all of them have the same tent?
  11. It doesn't have to be that way. An anti-trust exemption and all the plaintiffs can go pound sand. Poof their causes of action disappear into thin air.
  12. Just stating a fact... nothing more.
  13. I agree. I just believe the starter has to be an anti-trust exemption, in order to prevent litigation over every decision. Some things won't seem fair, but so is life. If people want a semi-pro league, then by all means go start one.
  14. I mean... he did go out and find a wife for this very purpose.
  15. To be fair, I don't believe any of the people you are talking about actually make a dime off the sports they support. In fact, it is this group that overwhelmingly get called on now to fork over large amounts of money to collectives with no return on their contribution expected. The profits being made are being spent to support non revenue generating sports, including funding scholarships that otherwise would not be funded. Nobody forces anyone to play a sport. The benefits are many, with only a portion being monetary.
  16. It is more complicated than that, but Northwestern is being unbelievably misguided by its decision to "negotiate" with any group that trespasses and thereafter makes demands. Jewish students should now stage the same type protests in order to get a similar hand out. After all, this is what those universities have signaled works.
  17. I did do that, because that is where we are now. Of course, we aren't really solidly in any format. We are in the world of everyone taking as much of the pie as they can and the heck with the aftermath. I, and many I know, would be just as entertained if everyone applied Ivy league rules on admitting students and having true student athletes. The reason I wouldn't push for that is the good that college athletics has done for so many that would not have been admitted without the opportunity afforded by athletics.
  18. I don't agree with every point you make, but one thing is certain, you are intelligent and I appreciate your ability to make an educated point thru your writing. I respect that.
  19. The entire effort to transform collegiate athletics into some type of semi professional league is, in my opinion, a mistake. Applying the rules of business, in my opinion, is also a mistake. I understand why we are where we are, but blindly stumbling forward is a recipe for disaster. An exemption to U.S. anti trust laws is the first step to re-take control of an unsustainable point in time. I have no problem with student athletes being paid a fair stipend. That can be called a wage, provided that wage is equal across the board and is not used simply as a recruiting tactic. Likewise, NIL should actually be NIL. Remove it from recruiting altogether. I would have to type ten pages to fully expand on all of this. I am not rigid in how I believe it should look. I am certainly open to changing my mind, but what I am confident in is that the way things are now is not something that can work long term. We shouldn't cut our nose off to spite our face.
  20. I am really over hearing players and others complain about how much the coach makes and how much the school makes while arguing that they should get their share. That is NOT how the world works. I don't know of a profession that pays their trainees a percentage of profits. I certain know none that are the least bit concerned about being fair.
  21. Same could be said of Tommy's record without having to deal with Saban. It took a lot more to compete once Saban had it going. I actually place Gus ahead of Chizik simply because I don't believe we win that championship without Gus being OC.
  22. I'm assuming they all have very small hands... considering all the concern over the transparency of the pants... LOL
  23. I would expect a candidate to believe that they can get the job done. Their character differences aren't hard to see. Trump didn't even attend Biden's inauguration due to his inability to acknowledge defeat. He sounds like a screaming 9 year old when he whines about everyone.
  24. I believe that he should have rode off into the sunset and enjoyed retirement. He would have written the final chapter in one of the most storied political careers in U.S. history. As it is, that is not the path he chose. Instead of taking advantage of that, Republicans have insisted on forcing Americans to choose between Biden and a man that is close to the same age, with a history of self serving decision making and a track record of behaving like a child while occupying the office. Davis can write whatever he wants, it doesn't make it any more than his opinion. There is a void of leadership present in both parties. Unless a galvanizing candidate like Obama in 2008 or Clinton in 1992 rises to the occasion, the Democrats could be in the same type of disarray in 2028 as the Republicans were in this year. Someone has to be strong enough to push back on the fringe of the party without allowing the fringe to assume control.
