  1. “Today there are only about twenty-four moderate Democrats or Republicans serving in Congress? Fifty years ago, that number was over six times higher” https://www.davispoliticalreview.com/article/voice-of-reason-how-moderates-can-help-save-america?format=amp
  2. I was going to look up when you did the last facepalm but this will be easier: Liberals are just as extreme, dangerous, and incapable of criticism as maga. Especially Bernie Sanders. Right now.
  3. I caught that, which I thought wasn’t necessary. If it makes you feel any better, Texas is averaging about 3 facepalms on me a week.
  4. In many action movies the bad guy puts the hostage in front of him to protect from the cops. It’s a complex problem. But I’ve never seen the movie where the solution was to simply just shoot the hostage in the head 10 times.
  5. Nothing has driven youth protests like 1) ending bigotry 2) perception of an unjust war. The 60s were defined by both (talk about flag burnings). The Israel/Gaza war has the perception of both of these triggers. A perfect storm. I have 2 sons in college - both smart, both passionate, both admittedly clueless - they’re young. I imagine the protests going on in the campuses are driven by the same but more liberal personas. Theyre not evil - they’re 20. And again, the Israeli optics been getting worse every day. I realize you disagree but imo Netanyahu is waging an unwinnable battle and losing the war of the hearts and minds of a global audience. Long term this will cost the Israel’s.
  6. Excellent analysis. I’ve heard Stewart before but not nearly at this depth.
  7. I agree. The internet is now the the Tinder of crazies looking to create communities.
  8. I’m not exactly sure what you mean, but any post that uses crazy that many times I know I agree with
  9. There are many times I at least see your point. This isn’t one of them. So attacking the capital and trumps role in it is a yawner, but some nutty college students protesting on campuses cause end of times hysteria? Your definition of “American values” seems to be jus the values that suit you.
  10. You realize we have these issues because Netanyahu continues to bomb and butcher gaza into the Stone Age right? 60% of the buildings including health care are rubble. For the 100th time, the planet is having to have to deal with the escalation risks, costs, and massive refugee consequences of his ragefest. Why do people smuggle with connecting the friggin dots of basic cause and effect? Stop the bombing, points been made -> no refugees.
  11. No interest in changing your mind. I think it’s a harsher definition than I’ve seen and focused on personality type - but I get your point and tend to agree at several levels. Thxs
  12. Favor - the word populist sometimes gets thrown around in lots of contexts. How do you mean it (ie is it a demograohic or an ideology or mentality - underdog stuff. Or all 3)?
  13. College tuition inflation averaged 12% annually from 2010 to 2022. https://www.bestcolleges.com/research/college-costs-over-time/#:~:text=Across all types of schools,times%2C between 1963 and 2021. IMO Weve got to stop chasing symptoms. And addressing ridiculous college costs is only part of the complete US education overhaul that’s needed.
  14. 3 generations have tried and what people struggle with is there isnt a good one. Only the least crappy/deadly one. I just think people need to be careful right now. It’s a fragile powder keg.
  15. Iran is Persian, not Arab. And Persians have.a completely different history (ie they debate whether they are of Isaac, Ishmael, or neither). Then throw in the Turks, Kurds, ect. Like all things Middle East, it’s a big grey fractional mess. Thank goodness the college students have got a solution finally figured out…
  16. Usual not fair, “or else”, march on Washington playbook. Ie (ps notice the date).
  17. We don’t seem to want leaders in politics any more. Hell we picked them. Trump is a reality star train wreck, and mauled Desantis and Haley. Biden was consistently rejected in presidential runs over the decades. And that was during his “prime”. No other era would have even considered these 2 disasters, where the only response to any criticism is “well, the other guys worse”. 2028 will decide if this is an aberration - or this is the best we can now do.
  18. Most people who’ve worked with Trump directly have ended up damaged goods. And that’s the absolute best case. IMO anyone with serious long term aspirations (a Desantis type) who thinks it through will steer clear of the role.
  19. It’s a fair question. That and will he survive his next term are uncomfortable issues people will have to wrestle with. To a lesser degree the same could be said of trump. These are some really old guys. The VPs are in play.
  20. Capitalism can solve a lot of problems. If we can direct and unleash it. No country innovates like the US https://finance.yahoo.com/news/much-profit-hiding-within-teslas-112200420.html#
  21. Did you read my initial post? Again any sane person rejects both extremist options. Btw so which is it : there no climate change (denial) or China is the bigger cause of it (deflection)? Confused. fyi . https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-chinas-emissions-set-to-fall-in-2024-after-record-growth-in-clean-energy/
  22. So…. option 2. Like I said, neither option is acceptable. Hysteria or denial. Btw if this were a business - any ceo that doesn’t manage analytical trends and waits until things go to unrecoverable hell was fired 3 years earlier by the board. We’re a dysfunctional business.
  23. This thread is a classic example on why many Dems and the (current) GOP are such epic failures. Option 1: full climate hysteria - convert everything to solar and EVs with draconian regulations - regardless if the technology is ready, what other counties will do, or if it will tank our economy. Put Al gore and Leonardo DiCaprio in charge. Option 2: it’s all a conspiracy by the deep state science elites. Screw em all. Rip out our catalytic converters, fire up the coal generators, and sell all our current … green stuff to the sissy Europeans. We’ll be dead before it matters anyway. Option 3: Theres literally no option 3 for Americans. Extremes yelling at extremes. Another failure of no thinking actionable moderation. A sane approach that we can lead other counties with. Ie incentivize companies to dramatically expand teleworking, more tax credits for low emission vesicles, shame and/or challenge China and India on the world stage (moon race stuff). Hell I don’t know but find/hire people that do. Be practical but also do something. Lead.
