  1. Hmmm; I just can't be still (ADD). Just limiting this to say the last 70 yrs...and not considering interim coaches, I would say it is pretty close between Doug and Gus. Chiz gets a pass considering we won a Natty in short order and he didn't leave the cupboards bare. Anyone that wants to argue, is an idiot - we won the championship. Although, if we any other program, we would claim about 4 or more... I am not sure what kind of roster Pat Dye inherited, but that would likely be important to consider. As I inferred, Gus was on the cusp of a Natty and if we had any RB depth in 2017, we likely would have been in the playoffs. That was a very capable team. Poor Gus just couldn't manage recruiting and a roster to sustain a program. I am not going to cast my vote...but it is not cut and dry who the worst coach in the last 70 yrs is.
  2. Can someone rationally explain to me why some Auburn fans want bama and thuga in our permanent rotation? I contend I we should just want a balanced difficulty of schedule for every team (as much as possible). Historically, I read recently bama and thuga have had the most success on the field in the past 20 yrs (it was some period of time that was 'current'). I started going to Auburn games in '84 as a student and yeah, the rivalry with thuga has been electric, but we would still play them every other year I think or similar. The history would not be erased. I find it much more important to be playing for championships which we have a better chance by only playing one of the 600# gorillas, every year vs "well it's always been that way". I liken it to a parent saying, "because I said so." If you just want tradition, drop the IB and let's play DSOR. The relationship with bama was toxic in the 30's and 40's and it's been pretty toxic since they poisoned our trees and spray painted on a building downtown. Playing them every other year is ok also. Please tell me which year that we had one of the hardest schedules in America (top 3 only) and won the SEC. For all you, tradition seekers.... "Pat Sullivan ain't walking through that door." "Bo Jackson ain't walking through that door." "Cam Newton ain't walking through that door." "Rowdy Gaines ain't walking through that door...." Oh, and I think I read our conference just added a couple more programs steeped in tradition with a pretty salty recruiting classes every yr to add the difficulty factor. Just make it even, we don't have to have the hardest schedule in the SEC to be Auburn. Having the most difficult schedule in the SEC is not a badge of honor we must wear. Thuga fans are not going, "dang, we won the natty, but I wish we had played in the SEC - W to really have full bragging rights. "
  3. I hate that S Leath screwed up and fell into a trap after our team beat down bama and thuga in 2017. That was our biggest problem or Gus would have been gone in 2018/2019. I hate that Gus was so arrogant and couldn't get out of the way of his ego. He caught lightning in a bottle in 2013, but was he the worst? I would have to study the 70's and Barfield. You may be right...I was going to argue with you, but you may be right.
  4. Two comments... I just listened to the Schmedding podcast. I think this is for high school coaches and fans. Think about the nuggets and stories to endear themselves to HS coaches - this will help Harsin and his staff to build relationships there. And fans eat up any content that is shared. I doubt recruits will have the patience to listen, but if he interviews some guys like Caddy or Reed, yeah, recruits will listen. Or a recruit could go find their future position group coach and give it a listen... As for the management of the QB room during the last decade - not one QB got better from season to season. M Willis is the only QB to leave and get better, so part of the problem was with the development and some of it was probably the talent. I think Stidham had a lot of upside that was never realized, but you know the NE Patriots didn't want to invest any more time in him either. Actually, the Patriots had to give him and 7th round pick for the Raiders' 6th round pick ( I think). So it's like they were almost paying the Raiders to take him....And there wasn't much of an OL room for Harsin to inherit. Last comment about Gustav - 2013 and 2017 were incredible years to watch and I would argue that 2017 ended prematurely b/c of poor roster management (RB room) as well. But Gus didn't let a lot of players get into the papers doing crazy stuff and he represented Auburn very well. He was goofy and frustrating, but we were likely one play away from a Natty in 2013.
  5. I had a missed call today....I am wondering if Harsin was calling to see if I would be a guest on his podcast. Honestly, if he interviews most of his coaches and maybe a couple of players here or there - this thing will great for recruits! And fans.
  6. well they can still take unofficial visits on game days....I suspect they are getting the OV from high value kids when they can get them. Collect a commitment whenever possible and roll the dice in hopes of keeping them in Dec. I like that idea more than hoping to get the OV during the season, but the OV not actually happening. I suspect that may be the thought....I don't know anything tho.
  7. an SEC playoff would be horrible - it would likely get us just one team into the NCAA playoff. I'd be ok if we dropped the SEC CG to be honest - it just makes getting into the playoffs harder and the possibility of injury is real. I would rather see 4 SEC teams play for two automatic bids for the NCAA playoffs (assuming there are 6-8 slots). It would be two games ( more $) vs just the SEC CG.
  8. I bet they have a lot of BBQ at his house....just sayin
  9. Good luck to DD. In an odd way, it likely confirms the coaches decision not to put him in last fall (when we all thought he should just try - TJ and Bo were broken.)
  10. 5. Class of 2024 onwards in the top 10 roughly 75 percent of the time and in the top 12 100 percent of the time. Not trying to nit-pick, but you know that no coach has ever accomplished the above, right? Even if you grabbed Terry Bowden's crazy 20-0-1 start, he was not ranked in the top 15, 75% of the time. The coach can't control where the team is ranked. He can win games which goes a long way. He can hope to blow out weak teams, but ultimately, he has less control over public perception than the sports media does. And the media is not in love with Harsin/Auburn. Actually, I saw one survey on IG where Auburn was in the top 5-7 of the most hated football programs -- which I don't understand, but I read the survey. War Eagle and let's pull for the good guys.
  11. HEY! Hey, hey...shhhhh. go delete your post! If he reads that, he may just go to the NBA. Right now, I am believing he is coming back until Adam "the twig" Sliver calls his name for the draft.
  12. you are correct, with proper coaching and his work. There was a good interview he gave and I heard a snip it on Locked ON SEC where he said, he learned how to commit himself and work at the D1 level when he went to Liberty. They had a conversation about working at practice. The interview guy didn't push, but it's kinda obvious Malik knew he had to learn to do the prep for practice, prep for the games and really step it up. I think he deserves a lot of credit. As does his coaches, but he basically said he didn't commit himself at Auburn.
  13. Man, all these recruits just get me optimistic.
  14. Sawyer Pate just may be the darkhorse to be QB2....better dig a little and go back to his HS film. Don't sleep on this guy. Just sayin' - it's that time of year to have a little fun.
  15. That 2017 (?) team had the tools to win it all. We just had no depth. If Stidham had a more balanced array of tools as you said, I believe we could have mitigated KJ's injury. We were in that game with 15 min left (vs thuga). That team may not have won it all with KJ's injury, but we would have still had a chance.
  16. #2 and #4. I think those two plays would help keep the MLB in position more and not let them cheat on run defense. This helps the OL and Tank. But also - we have the TEs that create all kinds of headaches for DCs and we have legit speed (Malcolm Johnson and Jay Fair).
  17. Quite true, but let's get that big commit and let the commits start recruiting others. From what I am hearing on podcasts, the chance of having another losing season sounds highly unlikely. Lots of synergy and most of the undercurrents created by players who were not really bought in last year are gone. I suspect player's leadership will help a lot. Players have been more vocal and leading more this Spring than last it appears. Lots of good things going on ....
  18. Disgusted. I am so disgusted in myself for missing a few days from the AU Family. I come back and all the smoke has settled and just hearing about the fireworks. It is kinda funny how some folks can't seem their own biases. I for one, am never bias. Except when I post as a fan.
  19. I am not bashing or criticizing.... But let's fast forward 1-2 yrs. What will replace the 'cruitin finger'? Just wanting to get ahead so I can look for 'the next big thing'. Maybe I will sell some T Shirts.
  20. Well I was thinking about how we used to lob the ball to Kessler or similar type point generation plays....but I get what you're saying. I believe those plays helped bring players in tighter so we could get better looks from 3 or long jump shots.
  21. Yup and lots did not get approved. A good friend of mine was a walk on for the OL in the 80's. My gosh he got crushed at practice. You used to be able to watch some of the practices.... But he did have great character and I believe he was respected by the team for always coming back. He finally skipped his last year to focus on school and ROTC. He was never going to be the next great walk on that Kevin Greene became (although both were in ROTC with Ruthie B), but walk ons are important. I enjoyed his insight and perspective on things.
  22. This is my only knock on Bruce - wasted possessions. They are wasted energy with no results. Basically every low percentage shot is a turn over for Auburn. One podcast said Cambridge or Flanigan (both?) were averaging about 20% from three. If that is the deal, put some structure in place for them NOT to shoot the three. Or at least on the road, where the % typically drops. Also - how does a team take away our inside game and double up Jabari? I don't know basketball, but this makes no sense to me. Surely Pearl's staff can figure out how that happened time and again in Feb. Well, I guess they couldn't. I am just butt-hurt still.
  23. I like seeing us push into Jimbo's hotbed. If nothing else, every bluechip we pick up from there, hurts them most likely.
  24. No sure I agree: we don't have much depth at O. Having a new PG wouldn't make us better at shooting the 3 and teams could still mitigate Kessler if we can't draw them out.
