  1. If we have to make a coaching change, Dell or another up and coming coach may be the only one affordable since we will have gus and harsin still on the payroll.
  2. The difference with Bama entering the transfer portal vs Auburn is that those players for Bama were way down the depth chart and probably wouldn't see the field but several of the Auburn players that entered the portal were going to be expected to heavily contribute for us next year. In addition, Bama won't have much problem replacing those players in the portal.
  3. If and I do emphasize IF is that there is 1 or 2 options. If it is true his coaching style is making players leave then option 1: if he is recruiting SEC players then he is targeting 4 and 5 star players. These by sheer ranking are prima dona's and have been pampered long before they will ever enter college and by that standard Harsin will have to change the way he coaches. Option 2: Is to go after the less talented player that hasn't been pampered and would be more receptive to his style of coaching and hope, toughness, development and coaching will outweigh talent. Or I guess there is another option if he doesn't want to do either option is go back to the Mountain West where option 1 and 2 meet.
  4. Did not see the show. Did McElroy specify what the signs were.
  5. And then he ends up being on the Auburn payroll after firing. A never ending loop of hopelessness.
  6. The reason we had a chance against Bama was Mason and he is gone.
  7. I know where you are coming from but to me but when we have sufficient cash flow to buy only another Harsin. It doesn't make much sense to continue kicking the can down the road instead of biting the bullet now. Even though we continue to kick the can down the road a day of reckoning is coming and when that day comes we won't be off the rails we will be in an all out train wreck. I can only hope that people at Auburn Atheletic department don't sacrifice the long term good for short term appearance.
  8. Well if we do that it will be the biggest mistake we make. If he tanks and we fire him then we have gus and harsin on the unemployed payroll. With that how money can Auburn raise to pay another coach. Just about enough money to afford another gus or harsin. How many dominoes do we have to line up before people realize the dominoes are going to tumble. Talk about negative optics.
  9. I agree but I believe he will get another 3 years. I think we have to get Gus off the payroll before any decision on Harsin is made.
  10. I am not arguing that point that we took a chance on Pearl. But what was there to lose nothing. We were the cellar dwellers in basketball and there was not way we were going to get a proven winner for our basketball program unless we took a high risk coach that was a winner. Pearl meant that category. We are not that desparate in football. There are winners out there that without Freeze baggage that would come and be our football coach. In addition, in 2014 and 2015 when he beat Bama, he had the inside track to win the west but did not win it either year. I call that a choke coach. The way he was caught on some of the issues was he detailed those violations in email. Not his personal email but an email account at Mississippi which is subject to the freedom of information act. We got a saying in LA that if that aint stupid aint nobody stupid. I sure dont want stupidity like that around Auburn.
  11. You are putting Auburn at significant risk when you HOPE he has changed.
  12. The problem is we still have Gus on the unenmployed payroll and the to put Harsin there after next year bodes the question of how many dominoes do we line up before we push them over and watch them fall.
  13. No that is not remarkable at all. If you look at the NFL some of their coaches got their start at the lesser dvisions. They become position coaches and learn the upper level game from the coaches that have been there then the become OC DCs and HC after. What would be remarkable is them going from Valdosta to OCs/DCs at schools in power 5 conference.
  14. Good point I will give that 1 year of mentoring under Mason a lot more credit a for preparing him to become DC at Auburn vs all of his other experience combined but still with only 1 year he is still not ready to be DC at Auburn.
  15. I agree to some aspect. But as HC he is responsible for the overall success or failure. He can improve the offense to where we are scoring 45 pt a game but if we lose the games 50 to 45 hw will still get fired.
  16. Grinch was a position coach (DBs) at Missouri (a team in a power 5 conference). He mentored under Barry Odum before becoming a DC at a school in a power 5 conference. Thank you for bringing up Chip Kelly. If there was ever a Gus clone it would be him. Like Gus he could out talent but not out coach opponents. I did not cherry pick I did not mention Schmedding DC at Boise because I did not give that any credit for his ability to be DC at Auburn. Although Boise is an FBS school it is not in a power 5 conference. I think you are the one cherry picking by citing 1 or 2 examples of FCS and FBS coaches that come from the lesser conferences as evidence that these divisions and conferences produce coaches that can succeed as a coach at a school in a power 5 conference as just as a coach already at a power 5 school.
  17. First of all power 5 conferences do play a different game. Malzahn didn't just do away with his hurry up no huddle offense. The DCs started running presnap shifts and changing coverages that were above his ability to recognize the scheme and he more often came up with the handoff in the zone read or the bubble screen as the play. I wish one of you on this board would tell me why going down to get a coach is better than a lateral or a upward move. I put all power 5 conferences equally in schemes including the SEC. But I think the SEC with better coaching and talent is capable of executing the scheme. So go back and look at Odum and Durkins resume. In addition, look at who Golding has mentoring him at Alabama. And 3rd he has not set the world on fire while he he has been at Bama. So much so Bama fans were calling for his head earlier this year.
  18. That is pretty irrational decision making process. Because pelini failed and Grantham failed let's turn our defense over to a 15 year coaching veteran of the FCS.
  19. Don't disagree with most of what you are saying but the SEC as well as most teams in the power 5 conferences during blocking run twists which is not seen in the lesser conferences. In addition, Bama runs timing routes which is not seen in the FCS and the PSU clearing routes that was run against us is not seen in the FCS. I have only seen north Dokato state run misdirection. In fact, Harsins now that he is at Auburn probably should have run some of these schemes especially misdirection considering the problems with our OL
  20. I agree I can see Davis in the portal after spring because there will not be much of an opportunity because I see Findley, calzada and Ashford getting 95% of the snaps.
  21. Sure a powerhouse resume DC of FCS Eastern Washington and at Boise. When he comes to facing SEC offenses I am sure he glad he can simply his defenses over those he had to stop those NFL offenses they run in the FCS. Boy is this Gus 2.0.
  22. Because after 2022 we will have harsin and malzahn on auburn's unemployed payroll. With all that money going out we wouldn't have enough for his private jet ride to Auburn much less his salary.
  23. I did not say he is a rock star hire I was joking about Campbell as a coach but dead serious about the dysfunction within Auburn and poking fun at it. As far as some of the names you mentioned I have been mentioning Bienemy along with Dennis Allen and Todd Boles as excellent options for HC.
  24. Dan Campbell would be very interesting. He is dealing with a dysfunctional front office in Detroit, he might could handle the dysfunctional athletic department and PTBs that Auburn would present.
