  1. I don't have access to Hoke's inside info, but hopefully the visit went well and he thinks AU is his best choice to get drafted.

If Dillon joins, then the depth chart would look something like this. If Pettiford and Jones could both play the 1 at times, then perhaps CBP is good with what we have. In other words, he may not force filling the backup PG slot, although it would be great to have someone like J'Von McCormick to get easy buckets/ break down the defense at times.

    PG:  JP Pegues, Pettiford, TBD

    SG: Denver Jones, Tahaad Pettiford,

    SF: CBM, Jakhi Howard

    PF: Dillon Mitchell, Chaney Johnson

    Center: Johni Broome, Dylan Cardwell

P.S. I am really excited about Jakhi Howard and think he could end up being a force at the 3.

If our 10 looks like this next year, I will be really happy!!!!!

That would require Tre to remove himself from the portal, and 🧹 and Cardwell deciding to stay!   And of course the portal to gift us a couple of solid players.  Not likely all those chips fall in our favor, but it would be AUsome!!!

    Here's hoping for:

PG:  JP Pegues, Pettiford, TBD (not sure we need to force fill this slot, but it would be great to have someone like J'Von McCormick)

While it is true, that with NIL more players switch after committing but the great majority don't switch. So I am still going to get excited by a commit but will temper my excitement a little bit.

Even the ones who switch at the end, help with momentum that could help with another player who won't  switch.

Not sure who this is, but it looks like we could be trending the right direction for an Edge from GA.

edit: looks like Scroggins from Benedictine. Sounds like he's underrated based on ON3's previous pods, but Rivals has him as a 4-star now.

Yes, I agree that Mitchell is a great defender and unbelievable athleticism. However, it’s his offensive game that concerns me. Literally no offense outside of layups and dunks for 99% of his scoring. Feel like we need more of a threat to be formidable on offense.

Um....is there a better coach to play for to build your offensive game, confidence and overall draft stock than CBP? He's probably looking at Okoro and seeing a D first, super athletic wing get drafted top 5 even though his long range shot is still a bit of a struggle.

But back to your point, I'm sure that we'll see some bricks from him, but if he's able to improve his shot, then this will be a monster pickup given his defense and athleticism. And dunks and layups are what you want, assuming the rest of our team can hit some 3's.

Going back to portal conversation, apparently Dillon Mitchell from Texas is visiting us. Thoughts?

I think this would be a really good pickup. He's super talented and athletic, but is still working on his long range shot. Feels like a perfect fit for CBP's offense right? Lol!

We may see lots of bricks in the beginning of the year until he builds up his confidence, but even if he gets regulated to just shooting corner 3's, he's the kind of athlete that can expose closeouts.

What I like most are his stat lines against the better teams that they played, when UT's guards were having trouble scoring, he had to be more aggressive and played well.

    From 247:

Against two-time national champion UConn, Mitchell scored 21 points and had 8 rebounds. He later had 16 points and 11 boards against Texas Tech and had back-to-back double-doubles against Houston and TCU. He scored in double figures in 17 games and had 10 or more rebounds in 12 contests.

in that case, here's my prediction for our final class of 25 assuming OTV is loaded and can come through:

*Note: I have no intel on these particular players, so it's just a wish list. Would love to hear some commentary from our insiders. @Zeek@bigbird@ellitor

Quarterback (Need 1 HS and 1 Transfer)

    • 5* Julian Lewis - current USC commit, but since we didn't spend on a portal QB, here's hoping we have the horses to flip him to AU during big cat

    Running Back (Need 2)

    • 3* Shekai Mills-Knight - Ole Miss leads according to the RPM, but this is another big cat weekend commit
    • Unknown - seems like we're a bit behind this year and are still top heavy at this position, so we get a second through the portal

    Wide Receiver (Need 3-5)

    • 5* Caleb Cunningham - commits to Mississippi State in the summer but flips to AU on NSD to join Lewis and because we got 2-3 more wins than MSU. He ends up leaving a year early following Cam Colemna's immediate success in the NFL as a rookie.
    • 4* CJ Wiley - Georgia leads according to the RPM, but AU closes this one in the Fall after Georgia fills their WR class. CJ ends up being a red zone target during his AU career and approaches the career TD record.
    • 3* Daylyn Upshaw - AU comes to their senses and flips him late in the cycle to rejoin Cam Coleman so that they can continue their obvious synergy playing different roles in the passing game.
    • NR Branden Hoch - Auburn leads according to the RPM - joins the class in the early Fall and ends up being a diamond in the rough.

    Tight End (Need 2)

    • 3* Ryan Ghea - Auburn commit
    • Unknown or transfer - not sure where we are after our recent de-commitment

    Offensive Line (5-6 HS)

    • 5* Andrew Babalola - Kansas State leads according to the RPM, but this ends up being a NSD flip because we invest our RB & TE money here instead. We were only planning on 6, but take him anyway.
    • 4* Broderick Shull - Auburn leads according to the RPM and gets a commitment at BCW
    • 4* Tavaris Dice - Auburn commit
    • 4* Carde Smith - Auburn commit
    • 3* Tai Buster - Auburn commit
    • 3* Spencer Dowland - Auburn commit
    • 3* Jacobe Ward - Auburn leads according to the RPM - joins at BCW

This class ends up being the foundation for an ongoing improved O-line under Freeze that will be talked about for the next decade.

Defensive Line & Edge (Need 3-5)

    • 4* Jakaleb Faulk - Auburn commit
    • 4* Jourdin Crawford - Auburn commit
    • 4* Malik Autry - Auburn commit
    • 4* Andrew Maddox - Ole Miss leads according to the RPM, but AU gets another top player from MS on NSD
    • 4* Zion Grady - Alabama leads according to the RPM, but AU wins on NSD

    Linebacker (Need 2-3)

    • 4* Tyler Lockhart - Auburn commit
    • 4* Jadon Perlotte - Georgia commit, but flips to AU on NSD

    Defensive Back (Need 3-6)

    • 4* Devin Williams - Auburn commit
    • 3* Dante Core - Auburn leads according to the RPM and joins at BCW
    • 4* Anquon Fegans - Zeek's intel suggests Auburn is trending and he commits at BCW.
    • 4* Eric Winters - Auburn is trending and commits in the next 3 weeks

Just some quick thoughts by position.

QB | I am surprised no one has transferred out yet. If no one leaves we won't add anyone here.

RB | Surprisingly we look to be holding on to what we have.

WR | I still expect two more receivers to hit the portal and we want to add at least one more from the portal. Though I haven't seen any buzz recently.

TE | No active need here.

OL | The Tigers would add the right interior lineman if they saw a fit but currently aren't high on any portal prospects.

DL | Auburn has likely filled this need at this time

LB | We would like to add one more on the interior. South Alabama's Khalil Jacobs just visited on the 30th and has received an offer.

DB | San Jose State corner, Jayvion Cole, had three interceptions last year and is scheduled to visit May 6th.

Was just taking a quick look at 247's top uncommitted WR's in the portal and a few names ring a bell. Any intel on us talking with Karmello? Is he friends with Cam Coleman? Or what about Badger?

Steiner leaving is honestly for the better on both sides. For someone who scored so insanely high on his physical measurements he has looked so slow and awful at Auburn. I think maybe his brain and body just don’t process at the same time. Instincts are hard for overly cerebral players. This is a good sign regarding the freshmen linebackers we brought in early.

Scott was practically processed. The staff didn’t plan on taking DBs in the portal but some better names have emerged than expected. Additionally some young guys are coming on really strong.

Hood stings a little but not as much as some might think. Keionte Scott, Kayin Lee, Champ Anthony, Jay Crawford, and Jerrin Thomson are all ahead of him for me. I’d like to see Auburn get longer at corner too instead of 5’11” I’d love to see more rangey 6’2” guys. Makes a difference.

Looks like Scott got unprocessed! Here's hoping to improves and does some good things on the field this year because it seems like he has a lot of the tools we're looking for.

Getting Lambert doesn't in and of itself transform the team, but it adds quality experience to the WR corps to go along with the influx of talented freshmen we signed. Combined with the other additions to the team, I don't think it's unfair to say the unit has been transformed. How many new starters will we have? How many additions to the 2-deep?

The question is whether the transformation is a healthy one. I refuse to enter this season with my expectations set at a 7-win year because I do think we'll be better than that.

But apparently it's a bad thing for me, a moderator, to lead a conversation suggesting that getting Lambert completes (or at least furthers) a transformation of the team we had last year. Heaven forbid that we think a better roster should lead to better results and try to encourage Auburn fans to be positive about the coming season...

me too. I think we have a real chance for 8 wins.

Honest question, how are we going to get the ball to all these guys? 😳

    Honest Answer: Likely Peyton Thorne.

No for real, it seems like a lot. But it feels like a good problem given our history. And I'm sure that its common for the "WR U's" to be stacked like this and have high level talent that doesn't see a lot of time as a freshmen.

On that note, who knows how often Cain and Simmons will see the field this year and there was a suggestion earlier in this thread that there could be 1-2 more transfers out. Not sure if that's still likely though or not.

Free article so I am going to just list the names here. Pink does a good job with his blurbs so give it a read and support their site if you have the time.

    2. Philip Blidi | DL | Indiana
    3. Tre'quon Fegans | CB | USC
    4. Myles Jernigan | LB | Cal
    5. Justus Ross-Simmons | WR | Colorado State
    6. Damien Alford | WR | Syracuse
    7. Jermayne Lole | DL | Louisville
    8. KeAndre Lambert-Smith | WR | Penn State
    9. Rayyan Buell | DL | Ohio
    10. Bill Norton | DL | Arizona
    11. Sam Brown | WR | Houston
    12. Dallan Hayden | RB | Ohio State
    13. Dayon Hayes | ED | Pittsburgh
    14. Jason Zandamela | OL | USC
    15. Savion Washington | OT | Colorado
    16. CJ West | DL | Kent State

Any updates on Keyron Crawford or Nyjalik Kelly? 247 seems to think those are two Edge targets that we're high on.

With PG Pegues and SF Jahki Howard coming in from the portal to join Pettiford, I guess we are now just waiting to see what Broome decides to do. He needs to decide soon if we want to get another big.

Well, I guess CBP was thinking the same thing.

Agreed, but it seems like there is no date in mind and that CBP doesn't want to push it too much publicly. Although I'm sure he feels the clock a ticking.

Hopefully, we’ll start seeing some portal activity soon!   I expect a few guys to depart as they don’t see a path to significant playing time.   And hopefully we’ll bring in some quality players to fill needs.

    Anyone hearing anything yet???

The chatter all seems to be in this thread started today.

A little sad about this one I have liked him a lot since his high school recruitment. He does seem to be down the depth chart a bit though. The freshmen have been performing well.

Agreed. But that seems to be the spot that we recruit best.

Way less certain about the Offense. Think we'll lose anymore WRs, OL or QBs?
