I'll definitely defend it. It's no worse than any other genre of music. And I could sing those horrible things that was said in the op that doesn't mean after I harmonize it you can blame r&b. I could scream it, that doesn't mean you can blame rock and roll....

do we need to start quoting song lyrics to see which genre promotes the most violence? I am sure i'll win that war. For the record i am not using rap to justify any other wrongs and all rap is not bad. Some of it is plain horrible.

We can start quoting and we both could go all day....thing about it is rap is younger. Rock been around much longer did you complain about it? Quite simple some stuff is good and some is bad like in ALL things. Funny thing is people used Kanye as an example and he doesn't rap about violence at all.....you can try to degrade rap and not other music but you wouldn't win that argument

Oh no, I use Kanye only to show how horrible Kanye is.

And that using the logic of "rap made me do it/believe in it" is how I know Jesus and Kanye speak to each other on cell phones.

I still don't know what the heck you are talking about. Jesus, Kanye, cell phone, what?

It's lyrics, think the song is called I am God or I am a god.... heard it once awhile ago... it is insanely horrible. Look it up if you have some brain cells that need killing.

Kanye isn't one of the violent ones, he's just horrible at rapping.... producing though, he's legit.

Why would anyone pick out Kanye for violent raps when you have NWA, DMX, Eminem, etc.... or can they not count if they aren't currently topping charts?

They made it political. One guy said libs love Kanye? He's conservative so that means he has to hate Kanye. Probably hated him when he spoke out against Bush

His, "George Bush doesn't care about black people" quote was probably the only time I've ever enjoyed something he said... hilarious.

Also led to a retort from a comedian I can't remember, who immediately said "Kanye must not pay attention to the economy, Bush doesn't care about anybody"

Cole, i can't even name a Kanye song. I am going back 20-25 years. You can add some grunge/heavy metal that has some violent but mostly weird lyrics that i can't even make out without a lyric sheet to read along. I admit in my younger days i even liked some rap. I found some cds a few days ago which included LLcoolj and Tupac. I did grow out of that stage. I do remember when Coolio spoke out against the message that hard core rap was conveying and i was a fan of him too(can't find that one). But you mentioned counrty? Unless you going back to johnny cash .

Who are you to say what's the most popular music right now? Record sales? Because if you used that rap still wouldn't be the most popular. Who's to say in the 90's grunge was most popular? Posting a pic? ALL music has influence on whatever people choose to follow that music, those boys could have been influenced by country music just as well as rap.

Lol grunge music just influenced people to dress and look a type of way rap music influences kids to use racial slurs...

Course you can't use album sales when looking at what is popular in the youth. Cause that will include adult purchases.

You are honestly going to tell me that hip-hop/rap is not one of the most popular forms of music in today's youth? and you are really going to try and deny that in the 90's grunge was not extremely popular and had it's period at the top before falling off in the youth? C'mon man, that is easy to see by turning on the TV, walking out the door, picking up a magazine, looking for a station on the radio etc etc etc. Guessing Motown wasn't huge in the 60's then either.

You forgot that grunge/goth made kids go into schools and shoot them up. Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was about teenage revolution against social norms, hell Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" was about a kid with a bad home life that shoots up his class to have a voice. You left out all the attitude parts when referring to it's fashion. It took it heat and blame also for influence. Just like Kate Moss and CK took heat for promoting a drug culture with those ads.

If you don't think it has a influence across the board then show the research that nulls the research that says it does have an effect. Mean isn't just saying country music could of done it the same as saying I bet black fraternities have racist chants also as a defense? Especially since I show lyrics that are comparable to the language of the email and then show a study that supports that the sexist nature of the lyrics does have an effect on attitudes toward women in college age individuals. Give me the country lyrics and the study about it's influence that are similar to that email.

You still have not answered the questions though. I even said forget about rap and just use porn. Hell use rock if you like, I don't care. Marilyn Manson.. there you go.

If a student's private email is considered to be reprehensible to the community (which results in an investigation and potential punishment), then should forms of art (be they whatever) also be termed reprehensible to the community and action taken against those individuals that bring it on campus if it is of a similar nature?

Excellent point. Like music, video games are based off society and culture.

Sea turtle populations have been seriously reduced worldwide through a number of human influences

Or maybe they all committed suicide in shame when Vanilla Ice did a Turtle Rap. I'm betting this was the cause.

Crap, I forgot about that. The shame I felt as a child hearing vanilla ice make a mockery of Ninja Turtles.
