"College" Football Has Almost Nothing to Do With College at All

Just in time for game day, the Atlantic does an interview with Gilbert M. Gaul, author of Billion Dollar Ball: A Journey Through the Big-Money Culture of College Football.

Not gonna lie, before I read the article, I did a Command+F to search if "Auburn" was mentioned.

Scanned the article and can't say that I disagree with very much of it.

Conclusion: College sports are a "business" and school presidents are complicit in allowing them to grow out of control despite the fact that most athletic programs don't contribute to the academic goals of the universities. He blames part of it on the tax exemption that college sports enjoys.....but that is not likely to change unless congress wants to put all college sports on a Div III level.

There is probably much more to the book but the basic premise: he's pretty much on target IMO.
