Auburn defensive back Eric Reed, who entered the transfer portal earlier this week, has withdrawn his name, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz. The redshirt freshman played in just two total games for the Tigers over two seasons.

A 6-foot, 200-pound native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Reed – who attended Calvary Baptist Academy in high school – committed to Auburn over offers from Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Kentucky, TCU, West Virginia, Ole Miss and Colorado, among others.

A former On3 Consensus four-star recruit out of the Class of 2020, Eric Reed was rated as the ninth-best recruit coming out of the state of Louisiana before committing to Auburn.

Keeping players here has been a saving grace for next season.

May be wrong, but BH doesn't seem like the type to let guys back in once they enter the portal. Unless you are really good, and even then I'm not sure. Was surprised when he said he was withdrawing, but made more sense when On3 reported he's still leaving. Harsin probably didn't let him back

The cluster that no one wanted but everyone saw coming except ones who “make the rules”

It's only a cluster if you look at it selfishly from the view point of your school vs from the eyes of players.

Has anyone tracked what happens to players that enter the portal and dont get picked up? Surely not everyone finds a spot do they?

Not sure.  I'm sure some do, but I'd imagine a lot either wash out or end up at a lower level school

A large amount do not get picked up. More players go into the portal then then scholarships available

You act like the players have no choice but to play football. They have/had a lot of choices besides growing up to play football. Don’t give me the crap about a lot of theses kids come from underprivileged backgrounds. College should be for an education FIRST. Look up Ben Carson’s background and get back with me. If you can’t cut it in college, maybe you didn’t do the work in high school and don’t need to be at college. A G- league would make a ton of sense for a LOT of kids. Nothing wrong with that

From a math standpoint it makes sense. Portal entrants aren't just competing against other entrants but also high school recruits and JUCO players. A backlog seems unavoidable.

No one is even talking about socioeconomic backgrounds, but it's just a really really really weird point tangent you're trying to go off on for some reason.

When players transfer schools, they still go to classes.  They are still getting educated.  So you're not even making sense.

It's really weird, I'd bet you're a big "freedoms" guy...but of some reason are mad when college athletes have the freedom to transfer 1x in their entire college career.

Yeah, big “ freedoms” guy here. Also big on getting into college if you’ve earned it. We’ve already dumbed down college entrance acceptance for athletes. Let’s pay them for it now. Not like a free education isn’t worth anything. I’d bet you’re a socialist where everybody gets a share of the pie whether they work for it or not

I saw one CFB talking head discussing this and he stated 75% of players entering the transfer portal don't find a new home and their career is OVER!

Do you really believe AU would be participating in this system if it wasn’t a good deal for AU? I don’t believe AU is nearly as confident as you are that they are doing these football layers a favor.

What other choice does Auburn have other than to participate in the system?
