student endzone behavior

I was in the student section and if I had gotten my hand on one of the balls, it would have been thrown back onto the field. I think it was incredibly stupid to do that.

For people saying, oh other schools do it, their fans are classless, their players were taunting us....who cares? That is why WE ARE AUBURN, and they are not.

Not to mention the effect it had on the players, the kick-off return team was running onto the field and trying to get the fans behind them and loud, but the whole student section was turned around cheering at some idiots throwing the ball over the stadium.

I'm sure Tristian Davis just loved seeing the student section with their backs turned to him while he was trying to pump them up.

This is the same deal as with the thread with the Iron's brothers...I am all for celebrating after the win, but do it with your own fans, don't taunt the other teams fans. We should be better than that. Who cares what they other teams fans do.

you're overreacting. it wasnt a big deal. i'm sure tristan wasn't too bummed out, we were still cheering our asses off and were by far the loudest section of the stadium (like usual)

yeah, being unoriginal is REALLY funny! i don't know WHAT i was thinking. i'll point out that i never, not once, said it was classless. i don't think being dumb or childish is a reflection of how much class you have, but it is a reflection of intelligence. caught up in the moment? fine, you're not a dumb person; you just do dumb things. whatever.

all i'm saying is, enjoy the game! get into it with our players! try to be original every now and then. should you throw the ball back at wrigley? yeah, they started that tradition! personally, i don't want any part of something that is readily associated with kentucky, unc, ole miss, and south carolina football. you'll have to pardon me if that comparison doesn't fire me up.

and if i were there, i promise you. no one would've been louder. i went hoarse after every game last season, except the wisconsin game... couldn't bring myself to get fired up past the second quarter. i missed one game in person over the last 3 years of my college career (at arkansas, i was on a relief trip in the gulf). one. so don't think the only people calling this stuff stupid are just old stiffs. the ones calling it stupid are the ones that realize it's a waste of time when their's football to celebrate.

claiming that we're unorigional is one thing, but claiming that it was classless is another. I fail to see the horror in the situation. If you want to lecture someone on origionality maybe you should read my post last week about everyone linking arms when the team came on the field. Some people were pumped up for what could've been (and still could be) a new auburn tradition, if not that, then still a really cool thing to do for the team that did so much for us. Talk to Dr. Pep, or the fans that bring new, origional material to gameday, stuff they didnt get off of a message board. Now, God forbid we throw in a little unorigional fun in all of that eh?

speaking of, did anyone catch the car full of uf fans that got stuck in the crowd at toomer's while trying to get out of dodge?

Yes, I was right by it laughing my tail off.

there were two cars, I guess they went through the roadblock or something. The AU police seemed to be enjoying it.

We should stop having one side be "Auburn" and one side be "Tigers" because we didn't invent that. Hey, from now on when we win games, no more "It's Great, To Be, An Auburn Tiger" chants either, cause we were not the chant's originators. Hey, other teams have people dress up in animal suits as their mascots, so we should probably give that up as well. Bottom line is, anyone who was appalled by that for any reason should have a beer and lighten up. If you need something to be disgusted about look to FIU/Miami.

We can add "locking up" to that list...

Walking to the stadium?

Playing music...marching bands...cheering...going to the game...tailgating...being intoxicated...reading...etc. etc.

Wow...games are going to be boring now that we can only do Auburn things

guys my original point was that it is nice to not have those nets. We as students get to have fun and catch the field goals. Toss it around if you want, just don't throw it out of the stadium, its not funny, its dumb and juvenile. If it continues I am positive that AU will see the dollar signs and put up the allstate nets. I for one would hate to see them go up.

You could buy a ton of footballs for the price of one NET. Get real.

When I was 18 or 19 AU was playing Georgia Tech. I had endzone seats about three rows up and at the very end of a row. The AU QB threw a pass that hit the ground and bounced right into my hands. I sat there for a second, glanced at the girl I was with and she mouthed the word "go". Or at least I thought she did. In retrospect, she may have been reading the look in my eyes and saying "no". It's a little fuzzy now.

With what I thought was her encouragement, I bolted from my seat and ran up the steps with the ball. I got to the concourse and could see the exit gate when I was blindsided. I guess I was carrying the ball in the wrong hand because when I went down, the ball popped loose. The security guy fell on it for a turnover. I was escorted from the game and told to have a nice day.

The girl I was with seemed to be upset that I left her in the stands, but thankfully she remained until the end of the game and I was able to reconnect with her when it was over. She was relatively quiet at the party after and on the drive home. I assumed she was sad that I didn't make it out with the football. Oddly we didn't have another date. Something about "growing up" or some such nonsense.

That sounds kinda funny. Gosh Auburn fans have a corncob up their butts sometimes. Ocasionally, it's fun to be mischevious.

Nah not just Auburn fans but all SEC fans

those are some awesome balls, its a shame you went tommy trott on it though, if you could have made it past the eagles cage you could have lost them in parker and been nominated for a pontiac game changing performance.

It would have been a nominee for sure. I was moving. In the zone. Dodged the little girl with popcorn, spun past the old man in the funny hat. I just got careless when I saw that expanse open up in front of me. I was mentally already there, caressing that leather branded with an AU.

On another ballish note, I was driving up the road in Tuscaloosa one day about half a mile from Coleman Coliseum when I saw basketballs bouncing down the road coming at me. I pulled over and grabbed three of them. They were official Alabama basketballs with the brand and everything. I used them playing pickup ball in parking lots for years. Wore the leather off them eventually.

My roomate at Bama was a cheerleader. And the cheerleaders had a great way to snag footballs. During kicker warm up before the game, punts and kicks dont always get fielded very well. And the cheerleaders are standing around with nothing to do. So every once in a while a stray one will roll by them. They just sit their megaphone on top of the ball...scoop it up and throw it in their bag. I think I have 3 Bama game balls and my roomate got 4 or 5 and one with a UT brand on it.

i am very disapointed in the actions of the students during the game. There is no need to pass the balls back and throw them out of the stadium. That was classless and I for one was embarassed. I hope the ESPN never picked up on it. If they keep that crap up then soon we'll have those stupid allstate nets up.

If that's the most "classless" thing that goes on in the student section, I think we're doing pretty well . . . :)

I haven't seen Dr. Pep at any games yet this season...Has he hung his shtick up?

Charles, aka Dr. Pep, has been at the games, but most of the home games this season have been pretty full. I actually saw him Saturday night walking down Magnolia in his orange hoodie and shakers in both hands. Some students walked by and yelled "Hey Dr. Pep" And he yelled a War Eagle at them and continued on. I remember seeing him at the Buffalo game once the stands cleared out towards the end of the game.
