WASHINGTON - A New York man accused of trying to help terrorists in Afghanistan has donated some $15,000 to the House Republicans' campaign committee over three years.

Abdul Tawala Ibn Ali Alishtari pleaded not guilty Friday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan to charges that include terrorism financing, material support of terrorism and money laundering.

From April 2002 until August 2004, the man also known as "Michael Mixon" gave donations ranging from $500 to $5,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee, according to Federal Election Commission reports and two campaign donor tracking Web sites, http://www.politicalmoneyline.com and http://www.opensecrets.org.

Jessica Boulanger, a spokeswoman for the NRCC, said if Alishtari is found guilty, the organization would donate the money to charity.

"We are extremely concerned and disturbed by these charges, but we need to be careful not to rush to judgment as the judicial process moves forward," Boulanger said.

In the federal indictment, the government said Alishtari, 53, of Ardsley, N.Y., also known as Mixon accepted an unspecified amount of money to transfer $152,000 to Pakistan and Afghanistan to support an Afghanistan terrorist training camp. He also stands accused of causing the transfer of about $25,000 from a bank account in New York to an account in Montreal, money the government says was to be used to provide material support to terrorists.

Also, the indictment says, Alishtari schemed to defraud investors by obtaining millions of dollars in a loan investment scheme that he called the "Flat Electronic Data Interchange" and that promised high guaranteed rates of return.

The charges carry a potential penalty of 95 years in prison.

Alishtari was detained pending a court appearance this week. Prosecutors said he was a danger to the community and a flight risk.

On campaign finance forms, Alishtari identified his occupation as either the owner, president or chief executive of a business called Global Protector Inc., or GlobalProtector.Net, Inc. In some filings he listed the business as being located in the Bronx and in other filings in Scarsdale, N.Y.

A resume listed in his name and posted on an MSN group Web site on Jan. 8, 2007, identifies him as being an "industrialist and philanthropist" and references previous connections to the Republican Party.

The resume says that in 2003 Alishtari was named a National Republican Senatorial Committee "Inner Circle Member for Life" and was appointed to the NRCC's "White House Business Advisory Committee." The resume also says Alishtari was named the NRCC's New York state businessman of the year in 2002 and 2003.

The 2007 resume identifies him as the founder of IDPixie LLC, which is described as an "ID theft protection agency."

Seems he thought that supporting the GOP might give him some cover, where as sending $$ to the Democrats would be a sure fire tip off he was a terrorist. Gotta give him some credit for trying that one.

Of course, if the allegations are correct, it shows who the terrorists really like in power.

Must be why Osama endorsed John Kerry (who served in Vietnam, by the way).

You didn't do too well on reading comprehension back in school, did ya? If I say supporting the GOP would give him COVER, it's clear what is implied. A man w/ a middle eastern name giving $$ to a Democrat, as was done w/ Cynthia McKinney here in GA, would indicate a position AGAINST Bush and for the Democrats. Dems who are in favor of giving the Muslims everything they want. So, instead of making himself a huge target, he instead tries to use the umbrella of a few donations , to hopefully throw the scent off his trail . I know you're smart enough to understand that, but the fact that you pretend to NOT get my meaning is telling.

I prefer to stick with Occam's Razor. A terrorist (alledged) supports republicans.

Yes. Yes. we know. The republican party has a splinter in their eye and they are going to a specialist to get it out. The dim party has a log in theirs, but they are having to ignore it because it will take 9 months to get into see their socialized medicine doctor. But in the mean time, they keep pointing at the republicans yelling, "You got something in your eye. You got something in your eye. You got something in your eye."

Of course you prefer to stick to the fairy tale you've invented, simply because it allows you to be so intellectually lazy. Muslims voted for GW Bush in 2000 more than they did Democrats. In 2004, however, the Muslims supported Democrats more. And of course you ignore the fact that it was a Saudi Prince who presented a huge check to Mayor Giuliani, on the premise that some acknowledgement be made that the U.S.A. was in part responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Rudy said 'screw you', and denied the $$ . But before anyone could blink, GA Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney ( D ) was beggin for that check. Seems the Dems do have a price.

No fairy tale, unlike this:

Seems he thought that supporting the GOP might give him some cover, where as sending $$ to the Democrats would be a sure fire tip off he was a terrorist. Gotta give him some credit for trying that one.

It seems he's more than a donor to the GOP:

A resume listed in his name and posted on an MSN group Web site on Jan. 8, 2007, identifies him as being an "industrialist and philanthropist" and references previous connections to the Republican Party.

So, an alleged terrorist donates thousands to the GOP and is a NRSC "Inner Circle Member for Life." Thanks, but I'll stick with my original comment that a terrorist (alleged) supports republicans. You know, Occam's Razor and all.

Wow. Official records connect him to the GOP going all the way back to 2002. Ya don't say ! Color me shocked!

Tell Alice to come back through the looking glass, when ya see her.

Its funny, you get all bent out of shape over 1 'alleged' terrorist, while ignoring the 1000's of mosques and individuals who sent $$ into Dems. Like Cynthia McKinney, who oddly was supported by large number of mosques in NYC , Chicago and Detroit, for the 4th Congressional district ...in G E O R G I A !

And if it turns out that this guy IS a terrorist supporter? Great! We rooted out the 1 guy who needed to be caught. Same can't be said for the Dems, who just ELECTED a muslim into office.

What is the customary time period for terrorists (alleged) to be affiliated with the republican party? Are you shocked that it has been so long or is it much shorter than usual?

That it's so recent as 2002. But of course, most Dems have been getting their Islamo-nazi money from much earlier.

Sorry, I don't see Abdul Tawala Ibn Ali Alishtari on the list. And, although you didn't provide a link, Free Republic carries as much weight with me as MoveOn.org would with you. This list is about as accurate as the "Clinton Body Count" you guys like to whip out every now and then.

For example, why doesn't the list show that a former senior Bush administration, David Safavian, was once a lobbyist for Abdurahman Alamoudi?

Wow!!! Terrorists (alleged) like republicans, lobby republicans and, apparently, place people in high levels of republican government.

Which isn't all bad, except when we're talking about the Democrats M.O. for accepting $$ from KNOWN terrorist sympathizers, and not alleged ones. You'll also note that about all of these donations are BEFORE 2003 or '04, and some go back as far as 1994. No comment on any of that by you, huh?

Why are they KNOWN terrorist sympathizers? Because they have middle eastern names? Because they're Muslim? Because they were accused of something? Because they donated to a Democrat? What is the disposition of their cases? What if they were found not guilty or their cases dropped for lack of evidence?

As for what I see, what I see is a half-assed list of names compiled for the sole purpose of casting dispersions on a lot of people based on their surnames.

Naturally, you ignore the subject of this thread which is an alleged terrorist donating $15,000 to republicans and a National Republican Senatorial Committee "Inner Circle Member for Life" and was appointed to the NRCC's "White House Business Advisory Committee." . You also ignore the fact that one of your alleged terrorists, Abdurahman Alamoudi, employed David Safavian to lobby for him. Safavian subsequently gets a job from W but you have no comment on any of that, huh?

You'll also note that about all of these donations are BEFORE 2003 or '04, and some go back as far as 1994. No comment on any of that by you, huh?

Naww.

1st. WHY are they known terrorist sympathizers ? I took the liberty of posting and underlying the relevant portion which addresses your point. Here, again, I humbly offer ...

At an October 2000 rally in Washington, D.C. Alamoudi spoke to a radical islamic crowd announcing "I have been labeled by the media in New York as being a supporter of Hamas. Any supporters of Hamas here? (cheers) Hear that, Bill Clinton? We are all supporters of Hamas ... I wish they added that I am also a supporter of Hezbollah" (source). He is also named as a defendent in the lawsuit on behalf of 9/11 victims

2nd. I clearly stated that if indeed this guy who donated to the GOP happens TO have supported terrorist.... throw him under the jail. But if you want to crucify the GOP for that which the Dems are clearly more involved with.... that's your deal. I just wanted everyone to see the hypocrisy.

I just wanted everyone to see the hypocrisy.

Being accused of being a hypocrite by someone who considers all Muslims to be terrorists isn't going to cause me to lose any sleep.

And if it turns out that this guy IS a terrorist supporter? Great! We rooted out the 1 guy who needed to be caught. Same can't be said for the Dems, who just ELECTED a muslim into office.

So in your convoluted thinking that means "he considers all Muslims to be terrorists"?

I never thought I would say it, Bottomfeeder is making more sense than you.

Dems didn't elect him-- the voters in his district elected him. It's called democracy. The thing we're supposedly fighting for in Iraq. Guess how many Muslims they elected?
