The disciplinary panel of the North Carolina state bar handed down its ruling today. Punishment is yet to be determined but disbarment is clearly on the table.

EDITED TO ADD: Nifong is now saying his penalty SHOULD be disbarment.

Nifong should consider himself damn lucky that his penalty is disbarment, as opposed to imprisonment, which is the penalty that most people would prefer for him at this point. I don't even know if that was ever a possibility. Not being a lawyer myself, I'm not familiar with the legal penalties beyond disbarment when a DA is guilty of gross dereliction of duty.

A thought occured to me earlier. I'm pissed that all the negative press is on Niffong, instead of the stripper who falsely accused the players. Don't get me wrong, Niffon is guilty and deserves to pay, but this stripper broad should go down with him as well. Oops, bad choice of words there. She's the one who got the ball rolling on this case. She was the one who made a false claim and lied to police. Where's the penalty for her? I wish that the press would focus more on her. Will she ever see a day in court?

Well, whether he yet goes to jail or not, I imagine Niffong will spending the next several years losing personal lawsuits from the three accused, their families, many other team members, etc. On the other hand, he may also get a book or movie deal for his story...

I am so glad to see Nifong disbarred because any rational person saw that the whole case was fubar from the word go.
