Tigermike 4,082
It's none of our business which defense lawyers, private investigators, foreign contributor bagmen, public relations consultants, terrorists, union officials, furniture movers, or criminal pardon negotiators she met with as First Lady. Just trust her. It was all valuable experience that will come in handy when she gets back into the White House. John Kerry hid his military records as well. The Dems have only rhetoric and posturing. It works to better effect when the record is what they can say it is. Casual observations of fact are smears and attacks. She's Got 2 Million Little Secrets The Clinton Presidential Library holds an estimated two million documents relating to Hillary Clinton's activities as First Lady -- a record on which she has explicitly based her campaign for the presidency. She has a page dedicated to it on her campaign web site. Her mantra, "strength and experience", rests on her tenure in the White House. So why won't the Clinton library open these records to the public? The Los Angeles Times reports that the presidential library won't release them until after the 2008 election. There is a contradiction of a candidate running on a record she won't publicly release, even though other First Ladies have been more forthcoming with their papers. link LA TIMES LA TIMES What’s Hillary Hiding? Despite numerous FOIA requests, the Bill Clinton Presidential Library has kept almost 2 million documents sealed  and won’t release them until after the 2008 election: Sen. Clinton’s calendars, appointment logs and memos are stored at her husband’s presidential library, in the custody of federal archivists who do not expect them to be released until after the 2008 presidential election. … A conservative watchdog group called Judicial Watch filed suit against the National Archives last month, demanding the release of Hillary Clinton’s diaries, telephone logs, daily planners and schedules. In the 1990s, the group filed suits against the Clinton administration that led to revelations about fundraising practices, including Democratic campaign donors being tapped for official trade missions. In the most recent suit, Judicial Watch said it had submitted its request more than a year ago and had received nothing, save for confirmation that the library possessed “a substantial volume†of such papers. Democratic campaign donors getting tapped for official trade missions? According to the pundits, Karl Rove invented the politicization of the White House. Who knew? Nicholas reports that large amounts of the records for other First Ladies have been made public. The issue is not one of privacy or of privilege except as it pertains to her advice to her husband. After all, Hillary can hardly argue that she’s entitled to executive privilege on her own, since she never served as an official member of the White House staff, let alone as President. Furthermore, Rosalynn Carter and Barbara Bush never ran for the Presidency on the strength of their experience as First Ladies. Hillary can’t have this both ways. If she wants to run on her record as First Lady, then let’s see the record and find out what exactly she did. She needs to open the files  all of the files  and allow voters to see her actions and how her experience would benefit her candidacy.
