Gang Politics

This country (and this board) is so divided along party lines. It's like watching two rival gangs in a street fight. Have you ever thought what your arguments would be if you were for the other party?

I challenge the Repubs and Dems to switch sides for the purpose of this thread on April Fools Day and argue for the opposite party.

Who'll step up and be the first fool?

The democratic party needs rid themselves of some of their interest groups. For example, Most Union Pipefitters and Ironheads don't hold much regard for Gay rights supporters. Most inner city minorities never see any trees, much less go around parading about keeping them from being cut down. Finally quit griping about voter registration ID's, its not our fault that half your party cannot read or write or speak the Kings English.

Party lines my ass. It's about conservative vs. liberalism. The problem is that the left is so far left that there is no way to agree with them on anything. Look at their #1 son, achmed. He is so far left that Kennedy has to look left to talk to him.

Conservatives would like to have a more conservative candidate, but not as far right as achmed is left. So don't just look at party lines. Look at beliefs and morals. McCain is more independent/moderate than any candidate out there. And he still is vilified by the left as a right wing kook. The story is that independents, libertarians, and republicans alike cannot stomach how far left the dim party has gone.

Well, that's kind of the problem with the debate. The two political parties want to frame the debate in terms of Republicans vs. Democrats. But for the voting public, even without realizing it, the true contest is really authoritarianism vs. libertarianism. In this contest, both political parties straddle the ideological fence, so to speak. The Democrats favor economic authoritarianism (denying the total failure of Keynsian economics) and embrace social libertarianism, while the Republicans have embraced economic libertarianism (Well, until W) and embraced social authoritarianism.

Basically, what the vast majority of Americans want is to be left the heck alone, and they typically vote against the party whose authoritarian vision is the scariest at the moment. Six months ago, they were willing to risk greater government intervention in the economy to stave off the perceived threat to civil liberties posed by Bush and Company.

However, a moderate Republican such as McCain obviates that threat. So now, with the economy likely clawing its way back to recovery in 3Q, the American people will begin worrying about the economic authoritarianism of the Democrats and will likely vote against Obama.

Vote early, vote often. Raise taxes early, raise taxes often. Confiscate guns early, confiscate guns often. Weaken the military early, weaken the military often. Rinse and repeat.
