Escape Clause

The dates do not line up well for stellar underclassmen probably going to the NFL. Before January 15, they must declare for the draft. Around March 1, the NFL owners are expected to "lockout" the players, which could possibly lead to no season next year. The draft, if still held, is at the end of April. With the possibility of no season, and no money and the prospect of sitting at home watching their school play without them, shouldn't there be some kind of escape clause?

No. Stay in school or go find a career. You can't do both if you're an athlete. I hate it for them, but that's the way it has to be.

I heard that the NCAA may allow underclassmen who declared for the draft to change their minds after March 1 if they have not had contact with an agent. Normally the first thing you would do after declaring is to sign with an agent. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but it would be a good, common-sense thing for the NCAA to do. Probably why it won't actually happen.
