Um...me for Roberts. At least he shouldn't be discarded for 1 bad game. Until the LSU game, I had been impressed by Roberts. I'm not saying that retaining him would be worth losing McGriff or others. But I had been pleasantly surprised thus far. But if he is too difficult to keep around then of course they should look elsewhere.

I just am not sure if this is some rumor or if McGriff really does have a personal matter, or some of both. It feels like a damaging rumor without more info or insider knowledge.

As far as the offense, I didn't expect it to to be this bad and am surprised that Freeze and Montgomery couldn't get more out of this group. Something seems out of wack and not sure who should go for things to be better in the future, but Montgomery seems like the obvious choice to get the axe if someone has to go.

There was an altercation between the two. No one will say if it got physical or just words. McGriff walked off and quit. Roberts is a "get off my lawn" guy and very difficult to work with. His was or no way. Not 100% sure of this but told that Roberts said something he shouldn't have to one of McGriff's players and McGiffi jumped in and defended his guy.  McGriff is a Freeze guy, so he will be back. Roberts? Guess you can read between the lines here. So I'm told.

Damn, T Will is a coup mastermind then got Gus to hire him again as DC

This is the most amazing thing I've ever seem in my 40 plus years of college football. Still to this day I can't believe it. But it happened.

I'm not Steele fan but the only thing Steele did was make a list of which coaches / plan he would get / do if Gus was fired midseason.  When it came apparent Gus was going to get fired, was he interested in being a candidate for the job? That is pretty much it. Of course he said yes on the interest of the job.

Minus Caddy, Zac, and Marcus, right?

I hadn't heard that about Kodi.

    Craig we know about

T-Will instigated the coup and got everyone to blame Steele.

@WarDamnEagleWDE, you wanna weigh in on this.

Yep. Right behind Gus's back. Seem's Gus was so uninvolved with his football team,, he had no clue or didn't care. I was shocked that Gus offered the UCF DC job to T-Will, after being turned down by several others and even more shocked T-Will took it. You can see the character of T-Will for accepting the job, very little.   So much to say here but it's not worth it to be honest.

He seems to be selling "Auburn" better than any coach has in a while. I think that goes to show how much respect he had for Auburn/Gus in past and possibly how much he coveted the job.

People scoffed when he was hired and they will always scoff but we landed a diamond in the rough IMO we're lucky he didn't end up at another program on the same level or above us.

When I say little things, it's things like remembering something that he was told by a recruit, family names, stuff like this that really matter. His memory of things like this is extortionary I'm told. He has to remind his good recruiters stuff about kids all the time and expects them to find out more about the kid and his family. Dye could also do this. It's a unique talent a lot of people don't have.

That’ll screw up a locker room.  I can see where if I’m AU, I might pay more for a 4 star OT than a 5 star RB right now.

Lot of balance with this. I don’t think it would be appropriate to put actual numbers here but a lot of balance with AU and it’s players right now. Seems to be working well so far.

Saban's doing fine, Kirby's doing fine, Ryan Day is doing fine and even Billy Napier at UF is blowing & going in recruiting with a lot of top out-of-state recruits.

I can see where NIL isn't fun for them because they having to more seriously manage their rosters.  I'm sure trying to tell a 5* hot shot who's had smoke blown up his arse and people on social media chirping in his ear that he's going to have to work hard to earn his spot on the uat/uga roster isn't fun.

When grown men are pitching everything under the sun and the recruit's agent & parents are shopping his services to the highest bidder before he ever sets foot on campus, the kid may have an over inflated opinion of himself.  That's probably not fun to an already proven NC winning head coach & his staff.

Add in one 5* making more than another.

Well, there is a difference now that it's "legal".  A&M has a huge enrollment of some 75K students.  Their fans are rabid, and absolutely desperate for success on the football field.  They have had very little over the years, and now that it's a money game, the fans are willing to ante up.  I have to admit it was hysterical last year when they were getting to Saban.  Now they we are in the game for some of these players, it's not as funny.

It isn't just a money game. That is the whole point here.  Just because it legal now, don't be naive and think A&M hasn't been slinging cash around buying recruits for the past 20 plus years. Absolutely they have.

Saban is pissed off the whole system. That has leveled what he has done and given schools like AU a chance to do things he could get away with in the past. Saban is pissed off at Jimbo for calling Nick out for what he has been doing in the past, cheating his ass off. That is personal.

It's not over, unless A&M wants to pull out an excessive amount of money. If they do choose to do that and money is Coleman's main motivator, it's over.

You are 100% correct here. AU will not and is not going to get in a bidding war for Coleman or any kid like this. That is the whole point. Not sure what you point is here? You are acting like AU is poor. I'm telling and have been for years, AU has PLENTY of money. Money has NEVER been an AU problem. Leadership has been AU's problem. Not money.

One other note: if an auction ends in December, why engage in a bidding war against a deep-ppcketed suitor for the next 5 months? Wouldn't it be wiser to hold off on making a higher offer until right before the auction closes?

Coleman is real good. Could be a gamechanger. But he isn't worth a huge bidding war. Just not. There is more to this than just paying a kid. You also have to juggle who you have currently on the team. This stuff matters. People have to think about these things. It just isn't as simple as most think it is or should be.

These things will affect a locker room. You lose that locker room, you won't win anything.

I think thats a way over simplification of a very complex situation. I agree with your statement but it conversely implies all players seeking NIL falls into the bucket you described. It also implies (probably incorrect in my summation) that all the lost games for aTm last season was the result of players that got paid (highly in your description) did not perform well due to getting paid. Last years Bama QB certainly shows that is not correct.

Why did they underperform? There lies the million dollar question. Lack of drive to play for A&M? Overrated? Culture at A&M. Fit at A&M? Who knows. IMO, plenty just wanted to be paid.

Like them or not but kids WANT to play at bama under Nick. Sure they get paid but he will cut you off in a heartbeat if you suck. Same with Kirby. That is what I'm told Hugh want to build. High caliber kids who want to play and be at your program all while making great, most cases life changing money.

I've know Jimbo way back when he was the QB coach at AU. He was a good guy. But how many of his ex-players say anything good about him? I don't know of any? Says alot about his culture and running of a football program. He learned under one of the best that has ever been, cheating in football. Bobby Bowden. But he isn't a pimple on Bobby's butt personality wise.

Their money guys have a lot more than our money guys have, and there are many more of them. If it comes down to simply money, we are out of it unless Jimbo changes his mind and doesn't want Coleman.

But: Long live the unregulated NIL! It's great for the kids, right?

So? If you have just a bunch of high paid kids just in it for the cash you get what A&M got last year. Even bama isn’t going to pony up for a bunch of paid “assassin’s”. Have to have some balance. Even if AU had unlimited funds, they would still not get in bidding wars on some kids.

Well then we are screwed hahahaha

If any of the three here now start, we are screwed. Ashford was historically bad in spring practice. I wouldn't be wrong to say he threw twice as many picks as TD's. Maybe even with pick 6;s   and TD's thrown.
