  1. Anchovy paste - Don't use anchovies routinely enough to do otherwise for the dressing.
  2. The grilled carrots actually came from a recipe that involved za'atar and a creamy lime sauce. It's pretty good but I found I liked the taste of the carrots with just the olive oil, salt, pepper without going to the trouble of the sauce. Also, full disclosure, had no potatoes of any type in the house and didn't want to go to the grocery store.
  3. Thanks for establishing this club. On occasion, threads in other forums have devolved into food discussions (Powell Gordon, anyone) and I wished more on the subject. Thanks to Tiger Refuge for sending me the invite.
  4. Simple dinner tonight - coffee rubbed ribeye, grilled carrots, and caesar salad with housemade dressing. Nice 2011 Cali Cab with it
  5. Your mind moves in mysterious ways
  6. After looking through this thread after it had hit 9 pages, I only have one question: Where's this food thread that Tiger Refugee mentioned?
  7. Definitely excited to see this team on the floor
  8. Thanks for sharing, Great to hear Jared articulate what Auburn did for him and means to him.
  9. He was considered the number 1 kid coming out of high school last year - not sure how that equates to draft rankings
  10. I had seen the G league comment but this article got my attention because of the starting age of 16. Thor might have went there if this had existed last year.
  11. Surprised no one has mentioned that we might not pull Scoot now in light of this announcement yesterday (added Bold in article) Ex-UConn coach Kevin Ollie to coach new elite basketball prospect venture Apr 12, 2021 Fa print Former UConn Huskies coach and 13-year NBA veteran Kevin Ollie has been hired as head coach and director of player development for the Overtime Elite, a new professional basketball league for top prospects between 16 and 18 years old. "I'm ready to get back to what I was born to do: empowering and encouraging and supporting young people, and helping them grow," Ollie said in a statement. "There's no better place for me to do that than OTE, an extraordinary league for extraordinary young men. I consider it my mission to help these elite athletes realize their dreams." Ollie will work with Brandon Williams, Overtime Elite's executive VP and head of basketball operations, to assemble what's expected to be a 40-person operations staff, including coaches, sports science and performance personnel, trainers and counselors to work with young players. Ollie won a national championship as UConn's coach in 2014, and Williams is a former NBA player and front-office executive with Philadelphia and Sacramento. "Kevin has the leadership skills necessary to deliver on our goal: the holistic development of the athlete who is better prepared for the next level," Williams said in a statement. The OTE's plan is to offer six-figure financial packages and an academic tutoring component for high school players to compete against prep school and international teams in a year-round training program. The league's model would allow for players to share in prospective revenue from name, image and likeness and sales of custom jerseys, trading cards and non-fungible tokens. These players would lose college eligibility but be able to advance toward the G League and NBA draft in a more basketball-intensive environment. After winning a national title in his second season as coach at his alma mater in 2014, Ollie advanced to one more NCAA tournament before an acrimonious departure in 2018 because of an NCAA investigation. Ollie filed a suit against UConn to recoup $10 million in back pay, a process that has gone to arbitration. This is Ollie's first basketball job since leaving UConn three years ago. Before becoming the fourth Black coach to win a Division I NCAA men's basketball title, Ollie, 48, had a stellar NBA playing career, rising from an undrafted guard into a solid backup guard for 11 NBA teams. Ollie built a strong reputation for mentoring young stars on his teams in the league, including LeBron James in Cleveland and Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City. Ollie turned down an NBA head-coaching job with the Brooklyn Nets early in his UConn tenure.
  12. Positive hire from my point of view. Everything I see about her in terms of ability to recruit, knowing the SEC, etc. I like.
  13. When a player puts on that Auburn jersey, I support them whether they are there for one year or for 4. If they are good enough to make it to the next level in one year (or 2), I'm happy for them. Cole is on target here. I'm happy for Auburn too because other talented players are going to want to come for that same opportunity. We are seeing that happen now and it's only going to grow because of the success of the guys Bruce has recruited that have moved on to the NBA. To think the university doesn't recover their investment in a player that's only there for one year is an incorrect view (IMHO). The media attention (publicity and TV money) alone will more than cover any costs for the university. I, like many, have concerns about how the Name, Image, Likeness legislation will impact college sports because the sports are team sports so no one does it completely by themselves but certain positions have much more visibility that more $ will flow that way. However, the argument about colleges (and the NCAA) profiting so much compared to the players has validity. I know some will point out the tuition, housing, food, etc as being what the player gets but the economics don't balance out. If there had been more effort by the NCAA to add reasonable stipends, it might not have ever reached the NLI point. Lot of uncertainty in college sports moving forward but I will continue my approach of if the player's (and team's) jersey says AU on it, I support. War Eagle!
  14. Funny you should mention filets. Have a couple of prime filets in the frig and my wife just suggested that for lunch today. Reverse sear and finish in the cast iron skillet sounds like the approach since rain is possible today. Now to pick out a wine. Food derails are my favorite. I remember in the coach hiring thread, there was stretch where there was some discussion of various ethnic restaurants in the greater Atlanta area. I was hoping that part of the thread would expand.
  15. So, with new staff, etc. trying to crank up their recruiting engine in the midst of the pandemic, I've pretty much just been following the 2022 Recruiting Thread with occasional glances at the Transfer Portal thread and rare glances at individual recruit threads. I had read some of Powell Gordon thread in the early stages of his thread being created. Lately, whenever I would look at the Recruiting Forum, the most recent comments were in his thread. I couldn't figure out why he was getting so many comments, so last night and this morning, I went through his thread. About the only words I have is you can tell it is the "off" season.
  16. Finally remembered to make a donation. I've been on the site for 11 years so needed to say thanks.
  17. Just want to add my appreciation for you taking time to do this. Been missing seeing this each week. Great write up as usual. War Eagle!
  18. JMR, I've been out of town so I was just catching up on your post and the comments because your thread and StatTiger's analysis threads are all I generally read in the football section because of the many people with agendas that aren't worth a person's time. When I first read your reply, I thought you had put the guy on ignore as someone had suggested. It wasn't until I saw all the other comments asking you to continue, that I realized I had misread your post. As many before have posted, I hope you reconsider and continue your analysis because it is beneficial and educational for many of us on here. Thank you for the time you have spent in the past and hope to see your analysis in the future. War Eagle!
  19. Thanks, that's what I figured in terms of exposure but thought maybe you knew where he was headed - in state, out of state. I agree he accomplished a great deal there but there is always the challenge of repeating at a state level. Many top level players come into college having won multiple state titles at their high school. No criticism of his decision because you have to make choices about what's best and go with it.
  20. Cole, what's up with Mark? https://www.timesdaily.com/sports/high_school/muscle_shoals/basketball-standout-mark-sears-is-no-longer-enrolled-at-muscle/article_efef8975-865f-5ae9-9590-aa42e609f9db.html Basketball standout Mark Sears is no longer enrolled at Muscle Shoals By Craig Thomas Sports Writer Mark Sears, one of the top prep basketball players in the Shoals, is no longer attending Muscle Shoals High School, Muscle Shoals coach Neal Barker confirmed to the TimesDaily. “He withdrew from our school,” Barker said. Barker said he has not heard from Sears since the start of the school year and does not know what school Sears now attends. Sears’ father did not respond to two text messages seeking comment. Asked if he was surprised by Sears’ departure, Barker said “I’d heard some rumors.” Sears, a 6-foot guard, has college scholarship offers from Elon, Missouri State, South Alabama and UAB. Sears was a Class 6A second-team all-state player as a sophomore and a first-team all-state player as a junior. He has been the TimesDaily’s big-school boys basketball player of the year each of the past two seasons. Last year as a junior, he averaged 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game. One of his more notable performances came in a Northwest Regional final win over Bessemer City, when he had 31 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. That victory sent Muscle Shoals to the state semifinals. Sears also played a significant role in the Trojans’ run to the 2016 Class 6A state championship game when he was an eighth-grader. The Trojans return several contributors from last year’s state semifinalist team, but Sears is not an easily replaceable player. “It’s just next man up for us,” Barker said. “It’s high school basketball, so you’ve got to go with the guys who are there.”
  21. No apology required, E. You do a great job sharing recruiting information and I appreciate the work you do. I know of a couple times in the past where you've tried to step away and the information flow drops dramatically so I hope you continue your efforts for the good of the board. Thanks
  22. In the original OP, Pickens is shown in orange as in signed. However, he is just committed at this point, correct? I'm thinking this is just a carryover from prior to ESD when orange was used for committed. Thanks
  23. Coach, I said this in one of Stat Tiger's weekly posts, but his two posts each week and yours have been the only reason I have ventured to the Football forum each week. Really appreciate your work to do these weekly reviews. Thanks and War Eagle!
  24. Stat, thanks for your analysis. Your two weekly analysis posts and JMR's weekly post are the best posts in the football forum that make it worth coming to read. War Eagle!
  25. Stat, I don't post much (32 posts since joining in 2010 ) but I thoroughly enjoy your data analysis of the games. Thanking you may be 10% of my total posts WDE!
