  1. Gus is an amazing recruiter for kids who want a father figure and for moms who want their kids taken care of. He's an awful recruiter for kids who are focused on the NFL and a path to get there and families who are focused on the money that football can bring.
  2. Good... my wife's whole family are Nebraska fans. It make it a lot easier to enjoy my Tigers when she can enjoy her Huskers.
  3. With the current lack of depth in the secondary, I'd like to have the #1 JUCO Safety back.
  4. Meyer is in a whole different situation, he moved into a league where they had gentlemen's agreements about recruiting and took a big steaming dump on those agreements. You might recall the backlash his first year recruiting at Ohio State. You might also recall that he never had near that level of success when he was recruiting in the SEC. If Harbaugh could put a solid year together on the field, I think Meyer would finally have some real recruiting competition.
  5. I know that our coaching staff discourages that kind of thing. Doesn't mean the kids listen, but they discourage it.
  6. Then we aren't going to have that for a while, because Gus doesn't have the personality to be an Alpha, and you can't change someone's core personality.
  7. It was an illusion. Gus is an introvert. Any Alpha you see from him is an act.
  8. Have to disagree here... ex: Hand. You need a balance. Here's hoping we've either found that balance or will very soon.
  9. Yea... but that was before he had a full year to implement his "system". Now that the world has seen what he can do, we'll see how everyone responds next year.
  10. And on a really interesting note Penn State is 5 in the 247 and Texas is 3, while bama is 6. Looks like Penn State has kicked their scandal to the curb and Texas is ready to move past their slump... and when was the last time bama wasn't in the top... well... 1?
  11. But you have to admit, we've gotten way better about it. In the early days of Gus and even Chizik, we would just get flat out used by a bama troll.
  12. Valid point. I'm just interested to see how close the blueprints are and if Smart has the protection required to keep it up if they employ all of the same tactics.
  13. Still reminds me of a conversation we were all having a few year ago about Ole Miss..... just sayin.
  14. Which, to a bama fan, looks like stomping on the Bear's grave.
  15. Hate to lose him, but now the gloves are completely off between Saban and Smart. It will be nice to watch bama go after someone else for a change.
  16. That is definitely part of it, too. And there's the fact that they talk a lot of crap with nothing to back it up. That's what turned several of my sports fanatic friends off. They hate listening to the uninformed prognostication.
  17. ESPN in hemorrhaging money. Disney is basically leveraging all of their other properties to keep them afloat. They built themselves up when they were the only game in town and then Fox came along and the were ill-prepared to not own the entire market. On top of that, they made the egregious error of letting their on-air personalities show bias which is the worst thing you can do in sports, where people are so passionate about their teams. That cost them serious viewership/market share. 20 years ago, people would watch SportsCenter nightly, often repeatedly. Now people watch games that are on ESPN, since they have no alternative, and often with other audio sources, and then immediately turn it off. Also, don't forget, they've had 2 rounds of lay-offs. No doubt people who analyze high school football prospects were among those cut. ESPN also has an agenda. They are first and foremost an entertainment company that thrives on viewership, so they are going to do whatever they can to prop up the teams that give them the biggest ratings.
  18. Badly written site. All of the rankings listed on the site should pull from a central database, so you never see contradictory rankings for a player.
  19. Ah... so their site is jacked up... Click the 65 and you're brought to the list where he's 48. Typical.
  20. Interesting... on this version of their list he's #48 https://n.rivals.com/prospect_rankings/rivals250/2018
  21. Thanks for the insight. I had always heard that Gus pretty well controlled who was on our radar. I guess I've watched to many movies where the staff sits around in a room and decides who's on the board.
