  1. What's funny to me about the current conversation is, last time I checked, the recruiting coordinators and head coach pick who we go after, not the position coach. The position coach is obviously involved in the recruitment once those decisions are made, but you can't dog on him for deciding who we go after. Another thing to think about is that recruiting is a team sport. Grimes has some great selling points, as does the Auburn offense for Offensive Linemen. If those aren't getting through to the recruits, then our top recruiters need to step up and fix that. Right now, our Offensive Line had a problem, they were fundamentally undercoached. With Grimes, we know that won't be an issue. Problem solved. Other means can be taken to fix recruiting problems.
  2. I feel he has a good chance to end up better than Fields, but Fields has the edge right now. Had he been at a school where he was the sole starting QB and got the corresponding coaching, all bets would be off.
  3. From what I've read about him, I believe our 10th coach was hired, in part, because of his expertise in this area.
  4. Unfortunately, I can... our last top running back to be sent packing.
  5. For those freaking out about Jib, he took the time on signing day to trash talk those signing with schools not named Auburn, especially those on the O-Line, on Twitter. I don't doubt his loyalties at all. He just does things his way and doesn't let the recruiting system dictate to him. I actually appreciate that vs. the guys who take it seriously and play games.
  6. Like seeing Kam in a non-contact Jersey... makes you question the "he's in trouble" storyline a little. Of course seeing Kerryon makes one feel less enthusiastic, but hopefully it's just precautionary. Also love that Asa is sporting the Carl Lawson look of seriousness on his face.
  7. Hey @ellitor. I keep seeing people mention on the recruiting sites that we might be taking 26 instead of 25. Any clue what that's all about?
  8. FINALLY the weapon we've needed in the kicking game. Fingers crossed that little Carlson is even close to what his brother is. If so, we will finally have a completely well rounded team.
  9. The biggest upside that we have with Gatewood's need to learn is, unlike all of our other QBs with promise in the past 10 years, he will actually be able to spend a year under a really good QB and learn from him. If you look at our history, the plan was to have Frazier spend a year under Cam, but Cam was too good and the NFL snatched him up. Then Jeremy was under Nick, who was a completely different style of QB. Sean was supposed to follow Jeremy but was called into service early. Now, FINALLY, we have a solid, stable QB who can mentor his successor. In my experience, no matter how good the coach is, peer mentoring is invaluable.
  10. I'm just glad Worm has been brought up better than Hill so the only thing that might be similar between the two is play on the field.
  11. Someone needs to follow Joey's dad and be on constant lookout for Kenny Rogers (or his Florida equivalent).
  12. Sorry E... forgot you needed a sarcasm emoji. My point was, about 3 weeks ago, they probably all started wishing they were still on the team and making a championship run.
  13. And Antwuan plus Marlon Character. Are we making a list of guys who started regretting their decisions about 3 weeks ago?
  14. I can't believe in all of the praise about those screens that no one has mentioned the down field blocking. That is one of the main reasons these haven't worked as well since 2010 and one of the main reasons they do now. When Davis has to juke one guy instead of 2-3, it makes it a lot more likely to succeed.
  15. Still want him at Tight End... just saying. I have a feeling that Chip will finally give everyone what they want if we ever get someone in that position he can trust.
  16. Note, I paraphrased. I wasn't watching the conference when I wrote that. That being said, what I got from it is that there is a different plan for each team based on their strengths/weaknesses and what it will take to beat them. If we can beat a team on the ground, easily, you know we're going to because of the "three things that can happen when you pass". Here's an interesting thought. One of the reasons that we limited long routes last weak may have bent to minimize the number of potential hits Stidham would have to take.
  17. He didn't say it was to keep them in the dark, he said that we used different plane for different games and Nate Craig Meyers was less sctive by design, but will be very active in future game plans. You can interpret that however you feel like you should.
  18. If you listen to Gus's press conference on Tuesday, the lack of long balls was by design.
  19. Hopefully the coach will realize that he needs to put team above individual player and give Joey more play time when it's on the line.
  20. Really? I totally don't remember that. No surprise, however, I bet he was tired.
  21. No... that was the first play of the drive and was a very different blocking scheme then the first down, up the gut runs we do after making a first down.
  22. Interesting thing is, I don't believe they ever stopped us on that last week. As I recall, we got no less than 3 yards anytime we ran it. I'm still not a fan, and I hope we ran it so much because we knew it didn't matter against Ga Southern and we wanted to give Clemson false video about what we were really going to show them. None the less, the three yards or less, last week, was 3 yards most of the time.
  23. Love that you brought up Marlon beefing his next assignment after being called for a face mask (looked like a shoulder pad on my tv). That's something that stood out to me. Georgia Southern got most of their yards after we got called for something. That tells me that we need to learn to play with the same fire but not let our emotions work against us too, especially if we think the call is wrong.
