Yeah that was Tub's first season when he had to make use of those "monsters" that Baby Bowden liked to recruit, trying to become FSU, Rusty Williams & Clifton Robinson. Markeith Cooper & that Nebraska tranfer everybody was excited about, Michael Owens. It was so bad the leading rusher that year was Fullback Heath Evans at 330 yards (FOR THE SEASON). He also led in avg at 3.5 ypc... I'm starting to fear Gus is going to set Auburn back as much as Bowden did...

People can criticize who they want, I'm no judge, it's just not me when it comes to the college kids. I just had that joke in my head and ran with it at his expense. But you know, regardless of how he plays, he's gonna be a zillionaire soon so he don't care what I think. As for the publicly stated "responsibility"? I think that turned out false anyway. They are too awfully meerkat for me to believe he really has the freedom to change plays. Just my opinion...

I agree with Corch that the offensive scheme was better and some different play calling was evident (although still WAY too much depending on inside running). At least 3 long, wide open, pass plays (one a brilliant trick play) were all wasted by JS's overthrows and I may have O&B shaders here but I believe both Fitz's supposed TD & Boobee's supposed fumble could & should have been over turned. I'll admit Boobee's fumble was a tad more questionable due to the camera angle but the EZ camera on Fitz's TD clearly showed his back on the EZ line while the ball was not. That was indisputable. But when you suck, you don't get the brakes. That's a fact. However, there was still MASSIVE coaching failures in getting the team prepared, some very questionable in game decisions (why is Malik in for 2 plays but you run 3rd down with Kam as wildcat?) and the mentality of this offense is just pure SOFT. It's even seemingly bled over to the defense last night as that was, by far, the poorest tackling I've seen since the CEJ days.... they made Fitz look like Cam. Also, had anyone called into question the Offensive Lines' S&C program? It's clear that Auburn has good strength & conditioning available but do they even make the O-Linemen participate? ASU aside, they get straight up whipped by EVERYONE (including Southern Miss). I support the players. I believe they have solid & talented players available for every position on the team. However, on offense, they are not being coached worth a damn! Gus should give 50% of his pay straight up to Kevin Steele and then split 20% among the other defensive coaches (then they get to beat up the offensive coaches and take their pay). Then the final 30% back to anyone who's paid for a ticket to watch this trash. ...and since UDub, yes, it's been trash. War Eagle to the players and defensive staff. Y'all don't deserve this.

Here's the key. This is exactly what happened last night and though CKS may be at AU for the "long haul" due to family and retirement plans, HE is the one being driven to complacency due to Gus' stubborn butt. UT is now going to be a fight. Liberty is the only W left on the schedule.

Not sure I've seen that one but one I could've sworn was Viper until I actually saw him apologize to another poster, so definitely NOT him, haha. A couple are actually bringing decent content but a couple have just been...."what? No.". Oh well, I just know that even though I have not personally met any of the AUFamily members, I feel like SO many of you have become family and so supportive. Even the ones that disagree vehemently, it's like that uncle and nephew who just have fundamental differences. That makes discussion so much better because there's personal respect and understanding. Just don't want it to suddenly feel like the Rant or that weird UDub forum that we were pointed to before that game where it's just a bunch of ranting and out weirding each other. Thank you Coach. Fantastic observations as always. I'm unusually concerned with the offense after this past week....losing two key players and the "weirdness" that the offense displayed. As you mentioned, the poor communication, the visceral frustration seen by CCL & Stidham, etc. I hope you're right that it's just 2018's version of the typical Gus Malzahn growing pains. Thanks for the level headed approach to counter my little green men approach!! War Eagle!!

Me too. Wash was a great test and I suspect the next big challenge in the air will be Ole Miss.

It's certainly a stretch to call a few of us "level headed" ? but I think most agree Gus does a LOT of really good things and with a few adjustments he can certainly be a great coach for all of us AU folks to be proud of. Game 1 showed some really good signs of growth and improvement, especially in going against some of the negative tendencies, so I'm stoked for the coming games!
