  1. The key will come down to being able to make a good number of first downs even if it only results in a field goal. Our defense will fold at the end of the third and all of the fourth qtr otherwise. Our defensive depth this year is pretty thin. Man it would be great to get an IB win for Caddy and the team. They have had a rough few seasons.
  2. It was sweet to watch the irony after Saban had thrown a fit to get that 1 second added back to the clock.
  3. I would guess that it's because Kiffin has better recruiting success at most of his stops and seems to know how to effectively use the portal.
  4. Definitely split between wanting to have Caddy on the incoming staff in a prominent role and leaving to be a HC at a smaller school out of the spotlight, kill it on recruiting and team success, come back in 5-7 years as the new Auburn HC after Kiffin leaves.
  5. If you look back at only the history of coaches that have worked at both Auburn and bama you would be shocked. I remember brother Oliver's defensive coaching making stops at both schools. Coaches go to the best opportunity. If you offered Saban 25mill per year for 10 years do you think he would blink before wearing orange and navy blue yelling War Eagle?
  6. I agree that he needs some more rest but I can absolutely put myself in his position and understand it. This is his 'shot'. These moments come around only once maybe twice in someone's life under normal circumstances so trying to sleep is just about impossible. I will say that some very influential and successful people function on just a few hours of sleep. I am absolutely rooting for Caddy!!! Hell of an Auburn man.
  7. Hell of a game. Damn I wanted that one for Caddy!!! Our team never quit and left everything on the field in a hostile night game environment. War Damn Eagle!!!!!!
  8. I think Caddy will absolutely rise to the challenge!! I will be very disappointed if he is not given a good spot in the new regime. There are hopes he kills it kinda like when Kurt Warner or Tom Brady became superstars when they got their chance during chaotic and unfortunate circumstances (both starters were injured).
  9. Kirby went into a situation where the teams past 4 seasons were 12-2, 8-5, 10-3 and 10-3. Mark Richt was a pretty damn good coach and recruited well. Georgia just could not get over that last hurdle of finishing. The Alabama/Tennessee games that were lost is something their fans could not get past and wanted change. When you have a stacked pantry it sure makes it easier. Kirby stumbled out of the gate at 8-5 but with the talent and the recruiting machine they had established they went on to 13-2, 11-3 and the championship year (they still lost to bama that year) seasons. 12-2 and 10-3 vs 13-2 and 10-3 within a few years of one another but different head coaches is a pattern of success. I'll wager money that if they had brought in several other coaches instead of Kirby that the winning would have been similar. I bring this up essentially to show how damn important it is to have a successful recruiting coach and no I do not have a favorite coaching candidate. Getting the top decision makers and influencers to be on the same page is the ONLY way we are going to establish a pattern of winning. Changing out head coaches is not the overall solution, it is only part of the problem. Maybe the up and ups should have united behind tubberville or chizik. There were problems but they sure could recruit. Unfortunately for them there were too many behind the scenes civil wars going on.
  10. Regardless of who ends up as the HC just the thought of everyone being on the same page and not self induced internal strife is the true gold standard. I absolutely believe that if everyone in the PTB/BOT/Boosters group went in the same direction we could become the next powerhouse in college football.
  11. When a football team is in disarray it is time for a coach to narrow the focus on recruiting. Saban was unfortunately able to grasp this idea and focused all energy on the offensive and defensive lines. After he shored them up he started winning big and that pulled in the highly rated skill positions. Any coach we bring in needs to listen to the money makers and go all in on rebuilding the lines. I will take a 3 star qb and 4-5 star lineman any day of the week.
  12. Spurrier or Saban definitely did not light up the NFL. I absolutely hated Saban ripping apart my Dolphins.
  13. That's fine. We are both entitled to our opinion. I look at the differences between our defense from 2014 to 2016 and it is a stark difference for points allowed. He also brought in some highly rated recruits. I always hated that Cowart could not find a niche and get rolling. Glad he made it to the NFL for a while at least.
  14. Would it be terrible to say that Rhule as HC, Deion as OC and maybe coach Boom as DC? Hard to just toss out the possibility of Rhule. They did beat Texas that year and Texas ended up as #25. In the conference championship game they took #7 Oklahoma to OT (Oklahoma was one of the teams in the playoffs). Could he recruit....4th in recruiting in Big 12 over the last 4 years. If we put Deion in as the the OC that may become a moot point. I can't say he is my #1 choice for HC but who knows.
  15. To be an Auburn family member? How can someone describe except comparing amazing experiences. Born in the Punt bama Punt year and having Auburn Tigers on one's birth announcement essentially cemented being a lifelong Auburn man. That 2013 year was amazing but the '93 game beating top ranked Florida was the most memorable. I love telling the story that anytime my daughter was able to get on the field we won big in the upcoming year (2010 & 2013). My grandad was able to see me graduate (96') in the same arena as my dad ('69) before he passed two months later. Even named my dog Aubie who lived 14 years. Great and not so great coaches will come and go (Dye/Pearl/Baird vs Barfield/Barbee/Slater). Hope we win every single game but I can also honestly say I am not impressed with the recruiting or the second half play calling by this staff. Stability is a bit of an illusion. I remember seasons that we had quite a bit of depth but a horrible season (2012 comes to mind with a large percentage of the team being F and Soph). Sometimes it only takes one person who can see between the lines to make all cylinders fire (aka Pearl). Crazier things have happened....can Harsin win out.....of course he can based on our unpredictable history and he can also become Barfield pt II. Will he be the coach next year.....buckle up and in a typical roller coaster ride named Auburn we'll find out!! War Damn Eagle!
  16. Actually all I did was post his coaching resume and try to compare it to another successful college coach who played in the NFL. Two years in a subdivision HC position does not show a long track record of recruiting and game/player management. It does not mean he would not be successful but the data available gives one pause.
  17. I am honestly not for or against any coaching candidate but just researching Deion makes me wonder if he would be better suited as the OC instead of the HC. His resume shows three high school coaching stints and then on to Jackson State U as the HC since 2020. I know he had a long pro career but bouncing around in some position coaches spot in college for a few years might be a better path for his success starting out. I look at Spurrier as an example of a pro football player (9 years in NFL) that went through another 5-6 years of being a position coach in college football before becoming a head coach. Duke was his first true test as a HC. Deion would definitely make a splash for the recruiting. Deion Sanders Resume: Prime Prep Academy (2012–2013)..High School Head coach……Prime Prep Academy, Co-Founded by Deion Sanders, Reportedly Shut Down by State. The state charter for Prime Prep Academy, a school co-founded by Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, will reportedly be revoked. Triple A Academy (2015–2016)…..High School Head coach Trinity Christian School (TX) (2017–2020)…..High School Offensive coordinator Jackson State University (2020-present)…..FCS (Football Championship Sudivision) Head Coach
  18. I will absolutely attest to this man's brilliance!........this was about Bruce Pearl correct?
  19. War Damn Eagle to a fellow alumni (mechanical eng. '96) and a sincere thanks for your service!
  20. Remember the saying "Fear the Thumb"? Wonder if we can win 2 in a row against bama within the next 10 years. I will still bleed Orange and Navy Blue no matter what but the state of the program will never improve until we better utilize NIL to shore up positions of need cough...OL...cough.
  21. Disappointed for our team this year. Several veterans on the OLine and two good rbs gave me some optimism that the defense would not have to carry the majority share of the load. The defense plays 'on' when there is confidence that the offense can do it's part or at least just enough. That unfortunately was not the case today. Hope we can find some kind of identity for the rest of the season. War Damn Eagle!!
  22. I remember riding my bike to class in the early 90's and that the only obstacles on the concourse were RV's before game days. I loved the smell of the bbq mid day but I also hated it realizing I had 3 bucks for lunch so no bbq sandwich for me (mcdonalds all american meal.....small fry, burger and small drink).
  23. It looked like the game plan for all of the teams at the end of the season and tourney was to put Kes in foul trouble, shut down any open 3pts and frustrate Jabari. It seemed as though Green lost some confidence the second half of the season and did not handle traps/double teams well. Maybe it was me but I felt that when Green was hitting threes that everyone's game loosened up. I hated to see Kessler regress a bit but he kept getting snake bit with those cheap fouls. I know the defense kept us in every game but the passing has to be improved during the off-season. KD was feast for famine. His energy could snap the team out of a funk but he tried to keep delivering knock out punches and when he hit a cold streak for a number of games I think it messed with his confidence. Overall, the team stopped having fun because every team for the second half had us as the 'game of the year' and it wore on us. We just need to keep going in an upward trajectory like Duke did in the 80's and we will be right there.
