  1. Hopefully Bright gets drafted this year.
  2. Judd and Will Holland were great at that kind of bunt. Been a while since I've seen one done well.
  3. The Athletic's Keith Law has ranked Ike Irish 53 on his top 100 board and Sonny Dichiara at 40. Also thinks Zach Crotchfelt could be a 4th rounder if he wants to sign, which is a big if.
  4. I feel like it's an issue to the regular TV networks trying to appeal to the casual audience, not just SEC network sadly. Interviewing the potential first round draft pick or controversial figure in college baseball falls under that. If it wasn't for my free trial of Apple TV, I wouldn't watch their MLB games because of their broadcasting. That being said, I'm glad Costas is back again doing MLB games, as he's a guy who is definitely invested in the sport.
  5. Oh it started way before that regional walk off. In Game 3 of the 2019 series between Tennessee and Auburn, one of the players for Tennessee hit a go-ahead HR and was jawing at Greenhill. And that was before Tennessee was considered a good team.
  6. I think the scholarship cap proposal was supposed to be for all equivalency sports, don't quote me on that though.
  7. Yeah and also nice for teams not to be reliant on guys who don't have a financial motive to leave teams due to money. OK state has Robin Ventura and Matt Holliday on staff as student assistants.
  8. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/draft/ Here are the rankings if anyone wants to see them. I've broken down the rankings among the SEC as follows. Recruits Vandy-7 Ole Miss-2 Bama-1 LSU-11 Arkansas-3 Missouri-1 MSU-1 Kentucky-2 Florida-1 Auburn-3 Players LSU-4 Arkansas-1 Tennessee-4 Bama-1 MSU-2 Florida-4 Arkansas-3 Georgia-1 Vanderbilt-3 Ole Miss-1 The three Auburn recruits on the list are Ike Irish at 118, Hayden Murphy at 143, Zach Crotchfelt at 149. Irish and Murphy were at the top 100 on the previous list, so others have surpassed them which has given us a better chance at getting them on campus. Apparently Irish has been inconsistent this spring.
  9. He's based full time in Chicago now sadly. And apparently one of his divorces plus some unsuccessful ventures have cost a good chunk of his finances.
  10. Well pretty much most of the baseball team aren't taking your harder demanding majors. Being a student athlete is time demanding though.I remember hearing Kumar Rocker's parents say they came to Vandy due to the education, and Kumar was undecided still after 3 years. I don't even know if he's still at Vandy as a student. Also personal tidbit. There's a kid that was from my high school that pretty much was dumb, but he committed to a major D1 baseball school. It was an open secret that strings were pulled because his grades were really bad, but by that same token, he had wanted to quit football his senior year to do showcases and Team USA trials, but since he was the starting QB, he was "convinced" to come back to the team. Point is, athletes usually aren't there for the education now.
  11. https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/news/2022/01/14/alabama-house-considers-repeal-college-athlete-endorsement-nil-law/6529601001/ Alabama legislature is considering to repeal the NIL law that has been more restrictive than NCAA rules on NIL. So hopefully another barrier to overcoming the lottery disadvantage for us.
  12. Robby Ashford of Oregon has transferred to Auburn. It is unknown if he will play baseball, but if he is wanting to, he will need to apply for a waiver because he did not transfer by the July 1 deadline for baseball. If he is for this season he will be a walk on and it makes the roster to 46, which means Butch has to cut 6 players.
  13. LSU has taken advantage of NIL to get around 11.7, this is the best way for Auburn to get around the lottery disadvantage.
  14. Auburn baseball kicking off 'Operation Atmosphere' (247sports.com) Well Auburn has made some changes for the atmosphere, now the students have seating behind the right field.
  15. Plumlee transferred to UCF to play both sports. I guess I forgot to mention this but rumor has it that Josh Hall transferred from Ole Miss because he lost his spot to Plumlee and Ealy due to promises of playing time.
  16. Hey, I know this is a bit early for this, but couple players got announced to their summer league teams. Carson Swilling got announced to play in the Cape Cod League for the Cotuit Kettleers, Chase Allsup got announced to play for the Brewster Whitecaps and Bryson Ware got announced to play in the Southeast Collegiate League in Mississippi. Quite an accomplishment for Swilling and Allsup to get a roster spot in the Cape given its repuation, though it isn't always a guarantee pitchers play in the summer league due to injuries and/or innings pitched. Bryson Ware, Richard Fitts and Mason Barnett were in the Cape Cod League last year.
  17. Incoming Auburn recruit Drew Nelson receives 2021 Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Pitcher of the Year Award. Nelson, Hixon named AISA pitcher and coach of the year - The Troy Messenger | The Troy Messenger
  18. MLB.com released their 2022 top 100 Draft Prospects. Auburn does not have any of their players in the top 100. HS recruits Ike Irish and Hayden Murphy are in the top 100 for Auburn at 76 and 58, respectively. Other notable recruits Zach Crotchfelt and Gavin Miller may show up later when the list is expanded to 150/200 players. There is no one in the state of Alabama in the top 100 in terms of high school recruits. Butch has had a few players notably ranked highly by many draft lists to come to Auburn, so it's not a done deal that we're going to lose many recruits, especially Irish and Murphy, especially with them having a high school season left to play. One benefit in Auburn's favor is that Murphy will be a draft eligible sophomore in 2024 so he wouldn't have to wait long to get drafted again. Here is the list for anyone to look at. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/2022/draft/ HS recruits- LSU-10 Vandy-8 Arkansas-2 Auburn-2 MSU-1 Ole Miss-1 Alabama-1 College Florida-4 Arkansas-3 Tennessee-3 MSU-2 Ole Miss-2 LSU-2 Alabama-1 Georgia-1 Vanderbilt-1
  19. Shenker is no longer on the baseball roster according to the team's website now. The team has 45 members now, so there's 5 more cuts left. Wonder if it was because Shenker quit and wanted to focus on football in order to utilize his best chance of making the NFL or if he actually got cut. I think Shenker is eligible for two more seasons for baseball. Also Granzow didn't quite workout in terms of being a dual sport athlete as he tried to walk on the football team.
  20. I guess this is somewhat relevant to the scholarship talk since dual sport athletes are walk ons for the baseball team which saves scholarship money for baseball. With Oregon QB/OF Robby Ashford and Ole Miss QB/WR/OF John Rhys Plumlee entering the transfer portal, former LSU dual sport athlete Maurice Hampton only playing baseball for Samford, Ole Miss RB/OF Jerrion Ealy entering the draft after missing baseball season due to a football injury and Clemson two sport athlete Will Taylor out for baseball season due to a football injury all just coming the last couple months, I'd say all the times dual sport athletes have worked out successfully has a very low rate. For every Kyler Murray/Bo Jackson/Jeff Samardzija, you have a bunch of guys not working out in both sports or you have guys like Adley Rutschmann, Jameis Winston and Austin Mahomes quitting one of the two sports. I can see why Saban isn't too fond of two sport athletes.
  21. We missed this, but Bragga went back to Tennessee Tech to coach to replace Steve Smith.
