The Mississippi State game

Recommended Posts

I am not disagreeing  that it should not be exempt (though happy it is). Crazy right? IT should not be allowed because it breaks the rules.  But I do not think there should be a rule about artificial noise makers. That is my point and why I am glad it is not enforced. To me ringing the cowbells, or those funnel thiings at soccer matches(which I hate) are  examples of fans being the best fans they can be.  Like I said this is not golf. Noise is a part of the game.  Let the fans be as loud as they want as long as it is  safe. Plus that is one of their traditions. We recently had one of ours attaked so no one should be so eager to kill another teams.

Coach Jordan disagreed with you.

And disagreed with you most vehemently.

I guess what you are saying is that good ol' Shug was clueless about SEC tradition, eh?

There has to be a stopping point somewhere though. Whats next ? Bullhorns and amplifiers ??

And I hope we mudhole those boys into oblivion after the mess they stirred up with Cam.

Auburn will have the better football team when they come to the plains.

This time around.... McCalebb wont be slipping on that sand they put on the field. He should have had 120 yards rushing against them easy.

I remember Luper said in an interview after the game " Would you please stop falling down?"

IMO State will be as good as last year on offense, but will take a step back on defense...They lost some good linebackers.

I agree about the defense they only replaced one of their lbers with comparable talent in the form of brandon maye from clemson.  Their oline also took a hit losing a first round left tackle and a multi year starter at center.  Right now the replacement at left tackle is a converted defensive tackle probably not even close to the same talent.  I'm still not buying that relf is some great qb.  He ran up big numbers on michigan, ole miss, and played well against arky the only decent team he played well against last year.

Artificial noisemakers are prohibited in Jordan-Hare Stadium.  Confiscate them at the gate just like they do liquor. (Now wasn't that simple.)

And if you are caught with something that is prohibited, you are escorted outside the stadium.

Manny Diaz going to Texas was a huge loss IMO.

If the MSU  has the guts to stop cowbells  at the gate, problem solved.

If the SEC officials have any guts and calls the penalties, problem solved.

If an out of  Conf team plays at MSU, and brings their conference officials, and those officials call the penalties, problem solved.

Also every sec school playing MSU at Starkville should file a formal complaint after every game there to the sec about the cowbells and about the officials not calling the penalties.

OK, I am going to put this out there as I  see it.

I agree on being courteous to our guests but I am tired of suffering fools and country noisemakers.

It is time we served notice that we are here and going to stand up for ourselves in the way we elect

at our own stadium.

I am going to e-mail Jay with the following recommendation. I will do so early and often. I encourage

others to do so.

At MSU game the ushers should be instructed to add cowbells to the items prohibited in the stadium.

The owner can take them back to their car or dispose of them @ the gate, but not allowed in JH.

I agree we should also complain next year when we go to Starkistan and have to deal with it.

Letters to SEC office from our athletic department should be sent as soon as the game is over.

Auburn has put up with way to much over the years.

Honestly guys do the cowbells seriously matter that much...I went to Auburn, then transferred to finish up some graduate work in Starkville. Went to the AU game with my AU colors on last year and yes it was loud, but I enjoyed myself for the most part. Yes, the cowbells are loud, but it was the first year back they were "allowed to have them"...and one of the first games of the season, and THE first big game of the season at home. Seems like there are a few sore spots on this thread just lashing out over the Cam ordeal...but the cowbells...c'mon guys it is just not that big of a deal. Afterall, isnt the win the most important thing anyway. Seems as though the cowbells haven't messed us up too many times...Auburn v. Miss. State  50-20-2 - .708. I believe we can breath our sigh of relief.

oh well just my opinion. War Eagle guys.

Tradition or not, there are rules against artificial noisemakers.  The SEC knowingly allows one team to break their rules.  No other stadium in the SEC will allow the home team fans to bring in artificial noisemakers but they have to allow MSU fans bring their cowbells in.  If you allow one you should allow every team to bring in artificial noisemakers.  Now, how irritating would that be?  The SEC should step up and enforce their rule or do away with that rule.

WAU22 - As to the Mayberry approach of. ' awe shucks it is only MSU,  it wont' hurt none '

I say Bull.  I see no reason to give an opponent any advantage  in JH especially.

MSU wants to play with the big boys.

Fine leave your country bells @ home  and play football

and cheer for your team just like the other fans do.

If you don't have enough fans @ home, get some more.

Otherwise, I want to play "Eye of the Tiger"  - Loud - all through their quarterback's cadence.

Put aside for a second the tradition, its poor little miss st let them have their fun, the fact that it is against the rules, and that no other team gets the advantage.  Just realize that with a cowbell you have also just allowed someone who maybe intoxicated or planning to become intoxicated into a confined space with a potent weapon.  To use as a blunt object or a projectile against other fans, players on the field, or law enforcement.

I've been to 2 games in Starkville, and honestly, the cowbells didn't seem like a big deal to me. Even with the cowbells at full roar, it wasn't half as loud as JH or Bryant-Denny in that pip-squeak stadium.

I think Auburn ought to have a tradition of using a 12th defensive player on the field.

And then cry when we get penalized for it because WAAAAAAAAAAAAA ITS OUR TRADITION!

(See where I'm going with this?)

The SEC Presidents voted to extend the cowbell exception.  MSU was fined $30,000 last season for two violations of the "ring responsibly" rule.  Only two violations?  Anyway, all future violations will bring a $50,000 fine each and probably cause the SEC to reevaluate.

I have a friend who is a big MS State fan...he remarked this past season that he was getting too old to go to the games because of the cowbells.  He said his ears would be ringing for days afterward.

My daughter went to the game last season.  She went with some friends who attend MSU.  She sat in the student section with them.  She said the exact same thing.  Her ears were ringing three days later.
