The Houston Texans waived former Alabama standout Brad Smelley on Tuesday, leaving Jay Prosch from Auburn as the only fullback on the NFL team's roster.

The Cleveland Browns selected Smelley as a tight end in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He ended up on the Browns' practice squad until being activated on Dec. 10, 2012. The Browns released Smelley at the end of the 2013 preseason, and he was out of football until the Texans signed him for their practice squad as a fullback in December. Ten days after signing, Smelley joined Houston's active roster.

Smelley played two games for the Browns in 2012 and two games for the Texans in 2013.

Smelley was a tight end and H-back at Alabama after playing quarterback at American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa, where he made the 2007 Class 2A All-State team as an athlete.

The Texans drafted Prosch in the sixth round of the NFL Draft in May. Prosch was a prep standout at UMS-Wright in Mobile.

The Texans hold their first practice of training camp on Saturday.

Apologies for starting a 2nd thread on the topic in the football forum! I swear I looked to see if it had been posted already...but obviously still overlooked it.

Saw him make some crushing blocks in the game against Denver the other night....except for the jersey number, he looked like the guy we all loved as he helped clear the way for Tre or Nick.
