Piglet 0
According to my last statement, people who haven't worked DON'T get Social Security. It is not a welfare program. It's giving back to people in retirement who have paid their dues, worked hard, helped make America great, and should now enjoy the benefits of what they worked for. It's keeping a promise made by America to its workers. Republicans now want to break that promise. How about the concept of "what's ours is ours". America is a TEAM. Are you part of our team, or are you not? If you're part of the greatest country in the world, you pay to enjoy the benefits--the roads, the sewer systems, the schools, the courts, the police, the parks--all the things that we do together because it works better than trying to do them individually. You can get yourself all worked up asking things like, "Are taxes the same thing as stealing MY money?" A more useful question is, "Are we getting value for our taxes?" Democrats are real big on fun programs, but they don't spend wisely, and when the schools and post offices we paid so much for turn out lousy, we got a right to be dissatisfied. Republicans are big on tax cuts, but they live in a fantasy world in which they can spend as much as ever without having to pay for it, so they keep racking up debt and act like it's not their problem. do you know anyone who always spends more than he has? The long term results ain't pretty. If America is gonna work, it has to get enough taxes to run efficiently, and it has to be accountable for how it spends. That's just how the real world works. Imagine an efficient government that pays for what it needs, doesn't waste the taxpayers' money, and gives value for what it gets. One that promotes broad prosperity for all americans, not just the privileged few. An America with a better future. That's our challenge, and we can do it because we're the best country that's ever been.
