I'm pretty sure he caught the first thrown ball of the game.  I'm pretty sure he caught 2 or 3 balls.

Not according to the published stats for the game. Looks like he had zero touches or catches. Could be he wasn't getting open but it is puzzling. I don't recall him even being targeted.

Did Nate Craig Meyers even play?? No catches after the A day game he had is shocking and the QB could have used him with KD out.

I can't figure out why our talented WRs are not getting many looks. We have one of the best in the SEC but yet only Hastings, our walk on onside kick specialist( I had a good laugh at the bar about that) is getting open.

Guys like NCM don't necessarily have to be open per se, that's why you have physical specimens like them. To catch the 50-50 balls.

He was downfield open....as far as Hastings, he's super quick who has a chance of getting a safety or linebacker on him for a mismatch and like one of the announcers said running a crossing route puts it right in front of the qb eyes. If js was nervous and wasn't looking at every option (after that blind side hit I can understand) he was letting it go before deep passes could develop

One of 3 things happened with NCM. He was on the field a fair amount, so either he wasn't getting open, Georgia Southern was focusing on him, making him a less desirable target, or Stidham hasn't developed a level of comfort with him. I wonder if it's #2, as he would be the most likely target for the touchdown pass that went to Hastings. I know if I was calling the plays, I wouldn't send my smallest receiver on a corner route in the endzone, unless I knew that it was going to provide an advantage to make up for the loss of leverage if it ended up being a 50/50 ball. The one scenario I could think of is if a different receiver was getting all of the D's attention on deep routes.

Maybe someone who was at the game can speak to whether he was picking up double teams.

I wasn't at the game but I posted a couple of post earlier explaining a very likely scenario. As far as Hastings corner route well that usually comes from the slot, and definitely would test it if it was a safety or linebacker on him. If Davis had been in the game I think he makes the same throw

@lionheartkc, I think all 3 were a factor. #2 was a big reason for #1 also being true. Also, OL struggled early, which caused some of Stidham's struggles early, which was a factor in Stidham not looking in NCM's direction. Also, I think another factor was playcalling. There just weren't many deep balls to go around this week.

I expect all of those issues to get cleaned up and as other WRs have success, teams will not be able to key on any one WR (looking forward to KD being back next week!)

We were at the game last night. Our tix are right next to the players' parents seats. Sat next to NCM's family last night. Great people, by the way. They were super frustrated at the lack of looks for NCM. He played quite a bit. He sealed the corner to spring KJ's long TD run. He was either not on the field or was tightly covered on pass plays. I hope it was by design and he'll be utilized against Clemson.

Are you referring to Ryan or Kyle? If it was Kyle, I wouldn't hesitate, because he makes that catch all day and would take his fair share of 50/50 balls if it was underthrown.

I'm talking Ryan, this wasn't a jump ball scenario, Hastings had enough room to beat that guy by 3 steps. Now a  goal line wr fade..... No we don't need to do that. But I would do a fake fade and run a 5 yd comeback route with him

agree. Hastings HAS to be open to catch that. Hastings is more of the slot guy that fills the open areas for an underneath throw. If KD is on that corner route, even with better CBs, he will catch more of those than Hastings because of his height, strength and leaping ability even if covered well.

As far as NCM, I think it is a combination of things.

1. I am sure this game plan was not to show all their plays designed for Clemson. If you remember NCM had quite a few deep balls thrown to him in A-day. I think it was by design they did not call that play.

2. I was there. Stidham after the INT AND the sack strip and TD return, I feel got a little gun shy. THere were times, his protection was not a long, as he had to move around.

3. Stidham is also very rusty watching him. the guy has not played in 19 months, and he is still a rookie playing QB for a major college team (with the NC Clemson on the horizon) as he has played in what 3-4 games? There were times he held the ball too long, even though I saw WRs open (although he maybe were later in his progressions, and felt he didnt have time).

I hate that Clemson is his next game, as I think it will take time for him to start clicking.

p.s. our OL did NOT open too many holes against an average team and ofc it was a missed assignment that got Stidham blindsided and sack/stripped.

Players' parents seats are in Section 7 about rows 7-20. Right behind AU bench. You have to watch out what you say in these seats. Marcus Mcneal's parents sat next to us one year. Marcus missed his block on one play and I wasn't about to yell at him - both his parents are much bigger than I am!
