AUBURN -- Fifteen days of spring practice hardly made a divot in Auburn's football depth chart.

The post-spring chart released Tuesday will serve as a guide to the key battles of August. But the most important positions look much like they did six weeks ago: Sophomore quarterback Brandon Cox and junior tailback Tre Smith remain No. 1 at their positions, and probably solidified their standing during last month's practices.

Other positions, like the secondary, could still see movement over the summer and in fall practice.

"What we try to do is put them in a position where they know where they're at," Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said Tuesday. "We give them a chance to compete -- either going up or going down."

Two Mobile-area players made gains during the spring. Sophomore receiver Maurice Anderson, a Baker High graduate, is now listed behind Devin Aromashodu at one of Auburn's three receiver positions.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Chris Evans of Prichard jumped to No. 2 at middle linebacker behind senior Travis Williams.

"Chris has done a good job," Tuberville said. "He's just a redshirt freshman, so he's got a lot to learn, but he showed a lot of athletic ability and a lot of instinct this spring."

Senior Steven Ross missed spring practice with an injury, but he will start fall camp as the No. 1 center. Leon Hart, a highly regarded sophomore, struggled in his brief attempt to play center, and coaches ended the experiment. Hart is now listed behind Tim Duckworth at right guard, and his chances of landing a starting spot at that position are slim.

Ben Obomanu and Courtney Taylor join Aromashodu as starting receivers. Senior Anthony Mix, a Bay Minette native who began the spring as a starter but missed several practices to catch up on class work, is now listed behind Obomanu.

On the defensive line, talented sophomores Stanley McClover and Quentin Groves anchor the ends, while senior noseguard Tommy Jackson and defensive tackle Wayne Dickens are inside.

Auburn's three starting linebackers (Kevin Sears, Travis Williams and Antarrious Williams) missed all or part of the spring due to injuries, but remain in line for the top job. Like Evans, redshirt freshman Merrill Johnson has used a good spring to push into the No. 2 position at weak-side linebacker.

Strong safety Eric Brock has jumped ahead of Tony Bell, who also missed part of the spring for academic reasons. Bell is now listed behind Will Herring at free safety.

Irons listed at 4th place @ rb? Interesting. Probably just want him to work that much harder. We will see a lot of all of the rbs in the Fall. :au:

The depth chart the link goes to is not updated.

Leon Hart is still listed at center.

Eric Brock is still listeed at back-up FS instead of at SS.

Groves is listed as Stanley's back-up instead of at the other end in front of Gunn. (of course the 3 of them will rotate anyways)

But just a heads up so nobody looks at that depth chart thinking it is the new one.

Thanks for noticing...

The chart I linked was just the link given on the www.al.com Auburn page (http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/) next to the article link, so I just assumed it was the chart described in the article.

Anyone have a link to the more recent depth chart?
