TexasTiger 12,949
I think it also illustrates how easy it is to forget the lessons of war the further removed we are. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2019/05/27/memorial-day-netherlands-wwii-soldier-grave-tended-stranger-74-years/1249206001/
I_M4_AU 7,857
The wife and I went on a river cruise up the Rhine from Lucerne, Switzerland to Amsterdam a couple of years ago. On one of the excursions we visited the WWII memorial in the Netherlands and it was well worth the time. They will never forget what America did to help liberate their country. A good friend’s wife’s father was a B-17 Pilot during WWII that had to bail out over enemy territory and his aircraft crashed in Lichtenstein. The people there resurrected as much of the aircraft as possible in to a museum of sorts. About 10 years ago they contacted the pilot and as many crew members as possible (they found out who there were by bits of personal information left behind) and flew them to Lichtenstein to honor their service. It’s a shame we, as a nation, don’t show our gratitude for the accomplishments of the past.
