Sidney Powell admits election claims were false

Powell is now answering a billion dollar defamation lawsuit.  In court filings, she now asserts that her claims were so outlandish that no reasonable person would have believed them.

That’s similar to the Flynt v Falwell argument.

So, in other words, the millions of Republicans who took it seriously  - and still do - are not "reasonable".

We already knew that.

Also very dissimilar. Falwell printed an obvious parody ad for entertainment. Powell filed numerous bogus lawsuits and talked publicly about them as being true.

Her team certainly wants it to be similar.  The problem she has is that she gets no protection for speech that is both false and made with "actual malice", i.e., with knowledge of its falsehood or with reckless disregard for the truth of the statement. Had she ended her press conferences with a disclaimer of "Ya'll know i'm just screwing with ya right?" she would have a defense. Needless to say, she didn't.

They could have attacked all voting machines and avoided this lawsuit, but they intentionally, and with no evidence whatsoever, claimed that Dominion and Smartmatic intentionally skewed results.  Her best defense now is that no reasonable person would have believed her? Ouch.....  I see bankruptcy and likely being disbarred in her future.

I was speaking more to the construction/basis of her argument rather than the validity. Obviously she championed herself with some greater knowledge and proof of wrongdoing whereas Flynt was a neudy magazine publisher/editor that did a parody of Falwell’s mother to get under his skin. If you’re of mind to, listen to the Axios podcast “How it Happened “. It’s 5 episodes and tells about the last few months of the Trump presidency. One of the episodes speaks about a high level meeting at the White House in which Powell was a part of by phone. It was reported that Trump put her on mute and howled in laughter about her crazy conspiracy theories but decided to use them because the masses would believe them and it muddy the post election waters.
