StatTiger 3,188 Posted April 20, 2006 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Here is our average rankings in the SEC in scoring offense and defense: Jordan (1951-1975)........ 4.8 offense / 5.4 defense Barfield (1976-1980)....... 5.2 offense / 7.4 defense Dye (1981-1992)............ 4.1 offense / 3.8 defense Bowden (1993-1998)....... 5.2 offense / 5.2 defense Tuberville (1999-2005)..... 5.7 offense / 4.0 defense Dropping the 1999 season, Tuberville's average offensive ranking in the SEC is 5.0 and 3.5 on defense. Auburn has led the SEC in scoring offense 9 times since 1951 and scoring defense, 7 times. Three teams led both categories during the same season ( 1986, 1988 and 2004 ). Jordan's teams led the conference in scoring offense 3 times and 1 time in scoring defense. Barfield's 1979 team led the conference in scoring offense but never had the #1 scoring defense. Dye's teams led the conference in scoring 3 times and 4 times in scoring defense. Bowden's 1994 defense led the SEC in scoring defense but never led the conference in scoring offense. Tuberville's teams have led the SEC in scoring 2 times and 1 time in scoring defense. RadioWryn 0 Posted April 21, 2006 Share Posted April 21, 2006 One thing to remember here is when Tubby gets big leads early (UT 2004, UAT 2005), he tends to sit on the ball. It's rare for a Tuberville-coached team to hit 40 points, and those 40, 50, 60 point games against patsies really goof up scoring averages..
