Bush's immigration fix just

There’s one thing that you have to say about President Bush’s policy on immigration: It’s been consistent. Whether through nonenforcement of employer sanctions or calls for temporary work permits (amnesty) it ensures the continued flow of cheap labor. And whenever public anger demands a response, there’s a new plan which is designed to fail.

Not so with HR98 which was sponsored by Representaive Silvestre Reyes of El Paso, Texas. Reyes worked 26 years with the Border Partol in South Texas and he knows firsthand the futility of the policy almost exclusively based on trying to catch people at the border. Aliens know it’s a game and that once they get behind our front line of defense, they can work in the United States unmolested.

HR98 would redesign Social Security Cards, making them far harder to counterfeit. It would set up a means for employers to quickly verify the right of an applicant to work in this country. It would authorize 10,000 new agents to ensure that companies follow the law against hiring illegal immigrants. Employers who didn’t would face serious penalties, including up to five years in prison.

You are correct, it has been consistently on the agenda. Something that cannot be said for a long list of Presidents, Senators & congressmen before him. Now we are coming into the midterm elections and the politicians are listening to the "people". More likely only to the polling people. But they are hearing that by and large the American people are sick and tired of the borders being porous. They are sick and tired of illegal's demonstrating and demanding they be given amnesty, a pat on the back, a social security card, schooling for their children and a place to live, and a job. All the while they send the majority of their incomes back to Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua or wherever the hell they came from. With little thought of living here permanently, but saving their money so they can go home and live easy.

Before you go off on a tangent, let's get this straight. I have NO problem with immigration or immigrants. Only with illegal immigration. Then there is the whole other issue with national security and open borders. The Dims went ballistic over the

UAE ports deal, but have for the most part been silent for years, decades over illegal immigration.

Have the Dims had a plan? If so please provide it.

The Dimocrats always have a plan.... and it's always the same. It is "whatever Bush does is wrong; shout it to the media, and whine it to the public often enough and maybe they'll believe it".

I agree with the fact that BOTH Parties have ignored the issue of border security for decades. However, why is it that the majority of American's have been opposed to Bush's stance on Social Security, Prescription Drug Coverage (which by the way is a giant giveaway to pharmacutical companies) as well as the port Issue and Immigration? I suppose you blame the media for informing the MAJORITY of Americans of WRONGFUL FACTS on these Bush plans too? The truth is---Americans have not approved of Bush's handling of any of these issues and still don't. Americans are well informed today on a variety of issues and they learn the true facts behind these issues and to date, have rejected them despite the fact that the Republicans are the ones who have held power now for some 6 years. Moreove, IF the Democrats did have a plan, the Repubs would simply shoot it down and claim it was BAD to begin with....It's called POLITICS!

No I don't blame the media, I blame politicians demagoguing the issues.

So it is your contention that democrats have rejected outright any plan proposed by Bush because the plan was flawed and not out of outright hatred of Bush? Keep drinking the Kool-Aid. If Bush eats chicken for lunch there will be dims yelling he should have had fruit & vegetables. The dims only agenda for the past five years has been obstructionist in nature and scope.

Kind of like the dims have done for the past five years? ;):P
